Kris Brown can't make a pressure kick

thague

Practice Squad
Yeah he's a decent kicker, and i know its horrible weather in san fran.. but this isnt the first time he's missed in the fourth quarter this year... he's gotta make one of these... but if he doesnt.. i guess we get the first pick...

Kris Brown SUCKS.

I'm happy he missed the kick and happy we'll be getting Reggie Bush, but I'm deeply concerned about having such an incompetent, overpaid kicker like Brown next year. His performance over the last half of the season has been horrendous.

I agree. Now that most people have got their wish we should be thinking about having serious competition for Kris Brown. I don't know if we have brought any other kickers other than undrafted rookies in past TC.

Has he sustained any injuries during the season? I thought I remember him getting dinged up at some point. I would be very surprised if a veteran wasn't brought in to at least challenge him during camp and the preseason.

If you guys don't think that he's been missing a few here and there on purpose, then you gotta' be crazy.

He makes the ones he needed to make, and he's blown the ones he needed to miss.

And for all you who say that an NFL player wouldn't do it, or should be banned if he did...tough titty.

The dude has strategically placed us at No. 1 in the draft.

Love it or hate it.

But I think he and McNair are in cahoots. He IS a good kicker.

He is part of them!! And the team should look for a new kicker!! These missed FG will get into his head next year and will hurt the Texans next year!!

Boloney. Kris Brown has been one of the best in his time with the Texans. For whatever reason (wink, wink), he has had problems at the end of games lately. I still says he's one of the bright spots on this dismal team.

Trust me when I say this, after a 2-14 season Kris Brown is the LEAST of our problems and 10 years from now he is going to be known as the 2005 texans mvp.

:ok: My, how soon we forget.

So let's say (for argument's sake) he didn't intentionally tank the last two games we lost because of a failed kick.

In that case, he STILL has won more games for us in pressure situations than he's lost.

Kris Brown is a good kicker and if you'll ask any coach in the league (oh, Parcells, for instance), you'll find that they're a hot commodity. Replacing Brown is the least of our concerns at this point.:ok: ?

Did any one of you watch Kris' reaction to that kick? I did, intently (as did the cameraman). He was crushed. If you didn't realize, the wind was a factor in the near-clear.
I think he is a fine kicker, everyone misses sometime for many different reasons. :D

Dallas is out of the hunt! :excited:

He is like the kids in South Park, they are so good that they can look bad when they want.

We NEED to sign Chris Brown to an extension:redtowel: He has been one of the most accurate kickers in the league! It like "One of things you want to say hmmmm"!?:twocents:

Sign Morten Andersen, he's free and he's doing 40´s and 50´s (57 yard his best so far in training this year)

If you want a cool, proven kicker that never gets psyched.. he's the guy :)

Kris has always had problems kicking in a windy place. That's why they let him go in Pit. Not sure about the Titanics game, but today was a windy stadium.

we at least gotta bring someone else in. Now's the time to do it before this dude screws us up next season.

that was the same thing Pittsburg said......but he (uhhhh we) sure has a fat wallet.....and after Bush06 gets to town, I bet he gets a raise

...is the NFL great or what

....signed Chris Brown's wife

I'll say this AGAIN.

Last time.

His stats put him as a top 10 kicker EXCEPT 1 category:

PAT. And whose fault is that?

Sure, he muffed two big kicks at the end of this season.

Do we fire every WR who rops a big pass? Every QB who throws a vital pick? No. Short term memory people, Kris has gotten us out of some sticky spots, and before yesterday, scored 46% of our points on the season.

Right now, EVERY player needs an evaluation. There aren't any parts of the team we can afford to overlook if we're going to improve. That's mediocre thinking. Brown missed short game-winning kicks that even Doug Flutie could make. Unless he's throwing games on purpose, he has got to be the least clutch kicker in the league right now. He can't handle pressure situations, and that's not something you can show in stats. It's something you have to see.

On a 2-14 team, there are no pressure situations. Thats why they're 2-14. Your third win isnt considered a "clutch kick" opportunity.

Do you think that a "losing culture" takes over on poor teams, where the players play "down" to poorer level? I seem to think that there might be....

in that case don't throw out a player that may not *ACTUALLY* be as bad as what he played this year...

Don't talk to me about what Kris Brown did in years past. His job is to make kicks, especially when games are on the line. He didn't do his job this year, PERIOD.

He is NOT one of the best kickers in the NFL, I don't care what his stats say. Unfortunately, he is signed through 2009, so it may not be possible to replace him. But the team should do what it can to bring in some competition.

He may not be the biggest problem on the team, but the production from that position has to improve if the team is going to be more successful next year, whether that improvement come from Brown or another kicker.

Funny how you can replace Brown with Carr and kicker with QB and your whole statement makes sense, lol.

To some extent I agree with you. Carr definitely had a disappointing season and has to play better. But a QB is much more dependent on his teammates than a kicker is.

Brown just plain missed too many important kicks, and it wasn't the fault of the line, the snapper or the holder. My statement makes complete sense when applied to Brown, no matter how many family members and friends of his care to post messages on his behalf.

Seriously though, finding a kicker is the least of our problems. How many kickers were brought in mid-season this year? A lot of them. Brown missed a few kicks this year, it happens. Its not like kicker is a high draft position or a highly sought after FA position. There's a plethora of kickers in FA if need be.

Brown will be on this team until we can blame him with 100% certainty that he is the cause of the majority of our losses.

Until then, lets take care of our bigger problems and not worry about something like a kicker.

Brown is an average kicker. We should look at someone to replace him. Not only did he have a bad percentage this season but when was the last time he had a touchback on a kickoff. We need someone who can kick the ball out of the endzone and his a short field goal in the crunch time. I know some of you guys liked seeing him miss those field goals this year to get the top pick but i don't want it happening next season.

Where do you get your facts on that statement? It takes THREE primary players for a kick to work. There have been bad snaps, and bad placements! Check your facts. THAT, btw, was not the case Sunday. Kris just flat out missed that one.

He missed eight field goals this season, five of which were inside 40 yards and of those five, four were in the fourth quarter. Brown’s overall 76.5% success rate this year ranked 14th in the AFC. It seems an appropriate time to remind you that there are 16 teams in the AFC. Granted, his percentage this year represented a marked improvement over hi’s 2004 rate of 70.8%, but it was still well below league average (81.1%). In fact, in his four years as a Texan, Brown has only hit on 75% of his kicks. As a point of comparison, disposed Cowboy kicker Billy Cundiff, who coach Bill Parcells has cut 91 times over the past two years, has hit on 73.2% of his kicks over the same four-year period.

But it was Brown’s struggles this year inside 40 yards that should have sealed his fate. While he was hitting on only 70.5% of his 17 kicks between 30 and 39 yards, the rest of the AFC was hitting on 89%. Brown missed five kicks from that distance; the entire rest of his counterparts in the conference missed only a combined 15. For his effortsthis year, Brown should have been released Monday, along with Capers, Casserly, and some half dozen other players.

As they move forward, it’s important that the Texans introduce accountability into the fabric of their franchise because this year, the team had none. Casserly blamed Capers; Capers blamed Casserly; Carr blamed the offensive line, his receivers, the peanut vendor; others blamed him for his incompetence and immaturity. Meanwhile, McNair sat back and allowed the ugly charade to play out for 17 excruciating weeks.

Amusing article to say the least. And just WHO are we suppose to replace Brown with?? CUNDIFF????

Vinny! Are there any POSITIVE aritcles out there?? Does ANYONE have anything POSITIVE to say about where our team is headed? NOT WHERE WE'VE been, but where we're going?? I would start a POSTIVE thoughts thread, but I would get kicked off this board. NO SUCH THING ALLOWED!!

Exactly. I agree with you. 2-14 is the result of an entire team meltdown. And a losing season does indeed infect everything associated with that team.

I'd say give Brown another year for evaluation...maybe bring in some competition to light a fire. But I seriously doubt he's been in on any kind of CON$spiracy to miss FGs. :spy:

I can't believe this thread is still alive.

Is there a petition I can start for the removal of this thread?

Geez.......

His percentage was down because he was shanking those crucial kicks toward the end of the year just like McNair and Casserly asked him to.

And if you don't think that he purposefully missed a few...the Tennessee game was about the most obvious purposefully-missed kick in the HISTORY of all organized football. O-B-V-I-O-U-S. The ball never even left the ground in any sort of normal fashion. I actually give him credit for probably practicing very hard (in secret, probably in the dark at Reliant) to make sure the ball never had an ice cube's chance in you-know-where of making it even remotely near the goal posts.
