Thanks for your support!

I guess the refs need pre-season too.

Yeah, they're leaning a bit towards the home team... but our guys really aren't helping ourselves too much either.

Illegal use of hands. idonno:

Receivers can not be touched at all after 5 yards.

What happens when the receiver runs into the defender to draw a penalty? This is a BS rule. I would have my receivers run straight at the defenders, forcing them to touch them and move the ball 5 yards a play down the field.

Ticky tack ticky tack both ways.

They better be consistent throughout the year or there will be loads of complaining. The ref crew tonight isn't popular with a lot of teams. :thumbdown

One of the talking heads on ESPN was saying earlier this week that there will be a fan revolt several weeks into the season if they keep calling this rule like this. The delays in the action (especially for TV viewers) will be ridiculous.

It's a horrible rule... this is football not patty cake.
Last year, during the playoffs, they allow the defenders to absolutely mug the receivers... so to fix it they go to the complete other extreme and allow zero contact? Genius!

At the rate they're going the NFL is going to end up only allowing the big uglies to hit. Everyone else gets flags and a dress.

The emphasis on this is not going over well with anyone. If it's supposed to bring up the scoring and make things more exciting I think it's going to fail. This is the NFL, not the NBA and by it's very nature the game is more balanced than basketball. They're messing with that balance and that's not a good thing.

Totally agree. Hopefully, this is just pre-seaon BS, because if they call it this tight in the regular season, the paying customers won't be happy. If this keeps up, instead of uniform pants, they should have kilts for the WR's. Hell, my Grandmother can get open with this rule. Totally pathetic. :thumbdown

31-3 and you blame the refs? We just got dominated

Hope we have a better showing next week. :twocents:
how do you figure I balme the refs for the score? I blame them for blowing the facemask on Gaff that put us in 4th and 1 and the poor spot they gave Thomas that killed a 4th and 5. That killed 2 drives, not to mention that over spot that Rothlesbet got. I would have like to seen our O get a few more chances. I don't care that we lost, I do care that we got run out of the building. The ilegal hands was a little excessive too, IMO.

Allright now, watch the comments about "kilts". I wear a kilt more than a couple of times a year. A kilt's a manly garment if ever there was one!

And don't ask me what I wear under my kilt. There are two answers and you won't like hearing either one of them ;)

You sure you want to admit that Herv! idonno:

Absolutely. American of Scottish descent here and I proudly wear the kilt every chance I get. Their pretty comfortable too depending on the weight of wool you wear here in this part of the country. Tell you what, go over to Scotland and find some guys wearing kilts and question them about how "manly" they are for wearing their "wee little skirts" and see what happens
:boxing:

Seriously though, a "kilt" is not a "skirt" and I'm way off topic and that's all I got to say about that.

Back to those good for nothing ref's now....

I realize that the Scot's have worn Kilts since the middle ages probably. But, I'm from an era that if a man wore an earing, he was fruity beyond any doubt, Tatoos were for Harley gangs only, long hair was for girls, and any garment that didn't have two legs was a dress. No offense meant on my part, but if I see a WR in a kilt, I'm calling it a dress! lol: :hehe:

I do not, though someday if I ever manage to find the time I'd like to learn. Mostly I wear the kilt at the Ren fair, at some Highland festivals, and from time to time when showing our dogs. We've got a Scottish Deerhound, had two but lost one recently. I can go on and on about Scottish Deerhounds but I won't because I'm in the wrong forum for that and I'm trying to be good.

Think 120lb long haired greyhound that can bring down an adult deer all by himself and then waits for you to come find him and carry dinner home. Very strong, very fast, and very good natured around people. They think they're people actually. Awesome animals.

PERSONAL FOUL!!! Laundry on the pitch!
threadjacking on Herv, that's a 5 post penality and automatic first DAAAAAAAAAAAAWWNNNNNNNNN!
 lol:

back to the subject, the way they called the contact penalties was ridiculous. Someone needs to explain to these guys that touching a guy is not defined as 'contact' in the NFL. Part of the rule states that a receiver should be able to run an unimpeded route after 5 yards which is fine, but there were several instances where corners just put there hands on a guy who was running right at them, no shove no grabbing, and they threw a flag.

I think every ref from tonights game ought to have to stand on the field and have all 220lbs of Andre Johnson sprint directly at them, and see if they don't put there hands up.

Hopefully they get this worked out before the season. Otherwise there will be a whole new set of routes in the game:

"Starling it's 3rd and 19. Go run a 5-yard shoulder route!"
"umm, sorry, I don't know that one coach"
"see that corner, go run directly at him with a full head of steam then lower a shoulder like you're going to take his head off and see if you can get him to touch you"
"but when do I get the ball?"
"You don't! that's the beauty of it. automatic first down! and we don't even have to risk an interception!"

I thought it was going to be tough going to sleep with the memories of Texan blown assignments & missed tackles bouncing around my brain. Now I have the visual of men in skirts. Thanks. Thanks a lot.
