FA's for the Texans

Titans way over cap for 2006, Kyle Vaden Bosch is a UFA. Also Edge (Edgerrin James) is a UFA as is Reggie Wayne WR Colts...I think is worth thinking about

I wouldnt take any of those guys.

If you are going to look at RB, look for shaun alexander. Wr look to Charles Rogers. OL look to LeCharles Bently, LG from Seatle.

I think Bently is from New Orleans, Hutchinson is the Seattle LG, also a good choice, by the way. I think Wayne will be very expensive and might choose less money to remain in Indy with Manning and Harisson. Picking anyone from Idy's offesnse will probably be a mistake because we will pay for thier production while in INdy, but wont get it here because we dont have their offense. I like the idea of Charles Rogers, if he gets cleaned up. He has only played something like 12 career games, so when the Lions clean house he is likley to go and would be cheap. Imagine having the #2 and #3 picks from 2002 playing WR... also taking pressure off Rogers by having him as # 2 might help...

bentley is the center for new orleans, steve hutchinson is the G from seattle. i wouldnt mind giving vanden bosch a chance if we switch to a 4-3, if nothing else but to get someone experienced at DE & cheap for a year during the transition. he was injured and less than productive in arizona, but the way he's played this year in tennessee will garner him a few looks.

how are the titans still over the cap? i thought the last two years they cut or traded everyone to fix that (or are they still paying owed money for those guys?). they've got mcnair & bullocks left ... who else on that team is making more than the minimum??

McNair's number for next year is 27 million. Hopkins and Benji Olson also have figures in the 8-10 million range - I can't recall the exact number...I posted all this somehwhere else a few days ago but can't remember where - but anyway those three are the main reason. I doubt McNair is restructured again so unless he is willing to take a big pay cut, he will probably be released or retire.

I think Mcnair is done. Damn good QB but so banged up and injured the last few seasons that it's not even fun anymore. He might take one more season with the Titans, but I doubt it.

thanks AJ. and did i read that right? steve mcnair is going to count as 27mil against the cap????

yeah he is due a 50 million bonus. That bonus was a joke when the contract was signed. From the beginning this contract was one designed to allow both McNair and the titans to analyze the situation before moving foward.

BTW, Mort said something interesting the other day in that many of the contracts, especially those @ QB are structured where if somebody looks at the first three years the money is the same, but the window dressing around them varies greatly.

I'd rather see them sign Hutchinson or Bentley. Call me crazy, but I am of the belief that if we really focus on the offensive line, the players we have will perform at a much higher level. There's nothing wrong with Gaffney at #2. Heck, prior to last year, the Eagles would have wished they had Gaff at #1 :heh:

Charles Rogers has produced less on field and has more baggage then a Greyhound Bus, Shaun Alexander will be resigned by Seattle they can't afford to let him go. Edge on other hand wants more than Colts can/will pay with BIG checks for Peyton and Marvin.

I don't know if Shaun Alexander wants to come back to Seattle. He has a clause in his contract which says that they aren't allowed to franchise him any more. I wouldn't be surprised if he was on a different team next year. Maybe to one of the teams that wants Bush but can't get him.

I am sure that Edge and Alexander will remain with their current teams, however that will likely mean that both teams will have to release some of their current people (i.e. Reggie Wayne and Steve Hutchinson).

Reggie Wayne intrests me. We need a solid #2, and he would command some attention away from AJ. Youll have to pay #1 type money though im afraid. He would be a perfect fit though.

Id rather see us make a play for Hutchinson then Bentley since center is the least important position on the line...though at this point any help would be welcomed.

Bentley to me is the guy to go after. He has been a pro bowler at G and C and he is equally talented at both. Bentley locks down alot of options and allows us to part ways with McKinney's inflated contract.

Definately get Bentley, 26 year center would bring a lot to the table that would make us better...make this move along with drafting one of the top 3 LT's in the draft and we will really be on to something.

And I like Kyle Vaden Bosch...he plays for Fisher who is a superb judge and coach of talent (especially on defense IMO) and he never has taken a play off in a game that I have watched (unlike some of our pass rush "specialists"). I for one would love to see him bringing it to Manning twice a year.

I would pass on the other FA possibilities mentioned in the thread so far.

Go TEXANS...the turnaround has already begun!!!:redtowel:

I probably will get pelted for this, and there is probably no way we could swing this, but I would like for us to take a serious run at Eric Moulds if he is released/ traded by the Bills. Despite the negative press lately he has been more than a sold performer over the last 10 years. I think Moulds still has plenty in the tank, and would like to see AJ get some coverage relief.

I know it is more than pie in the sky, but....... pelt away

unfortunatly we probably wont be playing for a superbowl berth next year and probably not the year after either. i think we should refrain from signing the elderly.

WAIT!!!

I thought we HAD to use our #1 pick on a Tackle?

:redtowel:

Who said that. I dont remember any 1st pick OT. I think we could go Jimmy Williams, Aj Hawk, Greeway if we choose not to go any OL in Dbrick, or Winston or even McNeil.

Obcourse not 1 person here can say who it would be til we see how is released, signed, tender a contract, not tendered, trades. Bc we are uncertain of Buchannon, Peek, Orr, Babin, McKinney, Bradford (not unsure but through him in bc i knew some 1 say something) ect ect. Lets say we sign a OL or 2 in FA and we still pick #1 then we might go Bush but thats a very big if there. We wont go TE til 2nd or 3rd round.

so now that the pro bowl is over, its time to start thinking about the free agency. Who do guys (if any) think we'd be able to pick up. I know we dont have to much cap room left, but this years FA is mouth-watering. There are a few guys out there that can change franchises around. any guesses as to what kubiak and co. would want to do FA-wise?

I would hope they address the D and OL,heres a list of a few i think could help and hopefully we can land 2-3.
Secondary: Adam Archuleta SS,Wil Allen CB(NYG),Tank Williams S (TENN)
LB's: Julian Peterson OLB(SF),Cato June ILB(INDY),Akin Ayodele OLB(JAX),Wil Witherspoon OLB(CAR)
DL: Jon Abraham DE(NYJ),Anthony Weaver DE(BAL),Kyle Vanden Bosch DE(TENN)
OL:Steve Hutchinson RG(SEA),Jon Runyan RG(PHI),LeCharles Bentley C(NO),Mike Flanagan C(GB),Jeff Backus LT(DET),LJ Shelton LT(CLE),
WR:Antonio Bryant(CLE),Joe Jurevicious(SEA),Troy Brown,David Givens(NE)

I would take Steve Hutchinson and Will Allen. I don't think Hutch is gonna leave the seahawks though. So Bently would do just fine.

Will Witherspoon is the main guy at LB I want. Big time competitor. Can play weakside and middle, if needed. All over the field. I like Wayne but I think he is staying. I have heard some people like Givens at WR but I'm not sold. I heard a rumor that Randal El was being courted by the Pats.

In free agency their are only a couple of guys i would like to see brought in.

Lecharles Bentley- this is my top guy, gonna cost about 25-28M to get, but his probowls will be worth it, he brings that nasty streak that we will change the OL into.

Chris Hope- the FS we are looking for, we got rid of Marlon Mcree because he could not play in Fangio's system, now that the fool is gone we go get a better version. Earl and CC hold down the SS and backup spots.

Other than these guys I am not overly concerened with FA would not mind a Tackle to be brought in, but more for depth than for actual starting quality. These two guys that I want change the attitude of the team to nasty, mean, and tough. That has to be how we play, if not then we will get beat regardless of who we have.

Jay Foreman always looked more like a 4-3 LB than a 3-4 LB to me. Do you think he has anything left in the tank to offer us? He shouldn't be too expensive next year given no one picked him up this past season.
