No Texans/Titans 12/29 for S.A. and Corpus

........and barely for Austin. I wonder what next year's programming will look like. The Texans could begin the season 0-1 and Week 2 who knows? Time to give the stations in Corpus and San Antonio a wake up call. New York's decision or not, the local stations get to hear it when the Texans get the shoulder.

Gotta love how the Texans give less than a damn about fans outside of Houston (as if any of us have been treated well by the 2013 Texans...lol).

Well those big bucks I pay for Sunday Ticket will finally be put to use, though I'm not sure why I care at this point?
 
Yeah, I can't complain about a 2-13 team not getting televised all over Texas. Heck, I didn't watch a couple of the games this last month and I have Game Rewind. At this point, I'd rather read about the Texans and make an occasional comment than watch them choke all over the field.

Yeah i do the same thing, i pay for NFL sunday ticket all season long just incase something like this happens, although this season it seems like sunday ticket was a big waste of money for this very last game to this very horrid season.
 
This is why I've always rejected the thinking that fans do not matter to owners. We certainly do matter. TV markets are extremely important, and the only way to get them is to field a team people want to watch.

I remember a few years ago when the Texans lost the Beamont/Port Arthur market, and struggled to get it back.

Now we are back to begging markets to carry us.

McNair kept a mediocre coach too long, and now it's going to cost him lots of $$$ in many different ways.

I was actually surprised that the Texans were on all season here in Austin given what has happened in the past.

Sounds like Bob and his GM need to be cleaning house in their marketing and Media departments. More typical Texans BAD Management.

So McNair has staff that let's the TV execs in NYC when and when not to broadcast particular games and in which markets? You sir, err ma'am, uh, whatever you are, are a piece (of work).

There has been copies of letters posted to this website with the response from the affiliates that prove otherwise. Unless the affiliates were lying in their responses


I do recall threads about Austin affiliate responding (vince young era)and a corpus affiliate

In Austin CBS showed Vince Young games his first 2 years in Tenn and if there is a scheduling conflict, the Cowboy game take precedent. The local program director said they would show the game that had the biggest appeal to their audience.

Ill have to find the thread where they said it was above local level ofKEYE even thought they are the "official station of the Houston Texans"

No, the Texans don't intentionally do BUT they don't do anything to encourage markets in a 300 mile radius to show Texans games either. The difference here, and you may not be familiar with how marketing works, is Jerry Jones wines and dines his affiliates, his marketing departments invites the GMs and program Directors to Dallas and they're well taken care of. Jerry takes his training camp to San Antonio and makes a special effort to take care of and include the local media. Bob on the other hand doesn't really do anything at all. In the last 5 years I can recall one time when a Texans bus that included some cheerleaders making the rounds thru south Texas and the valley. San Antonio is 7th largest city in the country and only 180 miles from Houston. The fact the the Texans DO NOT have more presence, fans and support in San Antonio is directly related to the lack of support the Texans show San Antonio. It's called Marketing. Just to let you know I called the CBS program director directly. What I told you is what he told me. Common sense says that the 7th largest city in the country (San Antonio) that is only 180 miles from Houston would/should be part of Texans broadcast territory. Austin is 150 miles from Houston, basic common sense it's a Houston market. And it is, now. FYI because of the VY crap I cancelled my Time Warner cable and switched to DirecTV to get Sunday ticket so I could watch the Texans.

Austin and San Antonio have been Cowboys dominated markets since long before McNair was even sniffing the NFL.

No doubt about that and I never said they weren't. However Dallas is a Fox market and the Texans are a CBS market. The Cowboys and Texans only conflict once or twice a year and this year there was no conflict. Therefore Austin and San Antonio are both markets for the Texans on CBS. So while Dallas is playing on FOX, NBC, ESPN or the NFLN it is not unusual for CBS to ignore the Houston Texans in San Antonio when they're only 180 miles away......but you probably know this......you may not be aware that they don't show Cowboy games on FOX and CBS at the same time on Sundays in San Antonio?

I have a nephew who lives and works in Austin and he's a Texan fan, probably mainly because of my influence. But he told me his friends in Austin are virtually all Cowboy fans, even the ones from Houston, and my nephew tells me they "feel sorry" for Texan fans and this was last year, before the Texans 2013 collapse. I don't understand that mentality ? The Cowboys just failed again to get reach the POs and haven't been there for 5 or 6 years, basically an average franchise for 20 years. Puzzling to me ?

Me too, I don't understand how anyone can be a Cowboy fan as long as Jerry Jones owns the team. Unless of course they just love the misery. However Jerry does understand marketing.

Love the irony of two Houston fans not getting this when a common Houston allegation against Dallas fans is they are bandwagon fans.

No one said McNair wasn't doing well by having a team in the 4th largest city in the USA. There is no argument there. That doesn't mean that he's also doing a great job in the areas out lying communities. The reality is the Houston Texans have put very little effort in to any community except Houston. It's as if McNair said I'll take Houston and conceded the rest of the state of Texas to the Carnival barker, Jerry Jones.

You usually are much better at picking your battles. I'm a bit surprised you wanted to wade in here with virtually no ammo. Stubbed your toe before you could even walk. You must have had the urge to be argumentative and missing the combative feeling you enjoy so much.

Which is pretty damn stupid. they should at least be marketing like crazy outside Houston. Buy up some billboards and make sure merchandise is in other stores across the state. You have to make your presence known, not just accept defeat...

To be precise, the local affiliate, NOT THE TEAM, get's to choose which of the AVAILABLE programming to take. Not all the affiliates have the same choices available to them.

All very true and in the case of the Austin and San Antonio local affiliates the Houston Texans are always an optional choice.
