Dunta's run on missed extra point?

Can anyone tell me what the explanation by the referees was for why we didn't receive any points when Dunta Robinson picked up the football on the missed extra point by the Cardinals. Did he step out of bounds? If so, why did'nt we get the ball on that yard line when the next play started? The scoreboard was as confused as we were and when they finally took away both the missed extra point and our 2 points for a "safety" no explanation was given by the officials. I loved being at the game today- it was great to see a win with a team that didn't give up!:yahoo:

Missed extra points (1 or 2) are dead balls in the NFL. Would have been a score for us with college rules.

From NFL.com rule book on extra points.

2. The defensive team never can score on a try. As soon as defense gets possession or the kick is blocked or a touchdown is not scored, the try is over.

no i dont even think Dunta knew if he'd get points or not he just did it in case we did. the way he kinda trotted into the endzone was like an uh so what happens now type thing, o and did anyone else nootice how fast that kicker was.....wow he was on Duntas butt the entire time.

So why did Dunta run it downfield then? Was he thinking college?

Saw an interview with him when he said he knew he wouldn't get any points, but said it was fun running it in and hearing the crowd get into it.

Lol, OK that's a little too much effort.

Nah. I think Dunta was confused but decided to err on the side of caution.

In college in counts for two points, in the pros--nothing.

I heard his explanation as well. In my opinion, he probably wasn't 100 percent sure it wasn't worth any points but he wanted to make sure.
