LOL, NFL Live Mark Schlereth on our O line

LOL, he said

"In all my years of being around football, this is the WORST offensive line I have ever seen. Everyone knows you build from the inside out."

Its sad that this whole city of Texan fans have known that the O-line needed help CLEARLY and DURING the first season, but somehow Casserly and our Organization had no clue.

I remember the ESPN commercial for the NFL Draft when Carr takes the snap just from McKenney lol. The Texans were offended but I have been offended by the lack of fixing what has needed to be fixed since day 1.

Yep. You'd think that the o-line would be the primary focus after setting the highest sack record in our first season. But through a series of bad misfortunes and bad decisions, things just haven't worked out the way it was planned.

So back to the drawing board and let's hope it improves next year! :howdy:

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner!

It is absolutely amazing that to this very day we can still find a million excuses for not drafting a lineman high in the draft. There are none so blind as those who will not see.

but barry sanders is coming out again this draft! (sorry, i'll turn the sarcasm off). it is pretty sad. we've neglected the most important part of the offense for 4 years and are on the verge of doing so again. in 2002 we set the sack record and became the worst line ever. in 2005 we're working on becoming one of the worst offenses ever, in large part because of maybe eclipsing our own record of worst offensive line ever. what can we do in 2006 to make it clear that we as fans and as an organization have no clue how offenses are built? battles are won & lost in the trenches. playmakers dont mean more to a team than i do if they arent given the opportunity to succeed. ask any officer, they put their men in the best position possible to do their jobs. a talented and consistant front 5 is that best possible situation to build from. it is NOT building a team around 1 person.

defense wins championships. lines build offenses.

I would also put our O-line up against some of the worst O-lines of all time. And Mark Schlereth was an O-lineman, so he would know. He doesn't know much ELSE, even if he pretends to, but he knows O-line.

Although I think back in the 50s, there was a team that gave up 17 sacks to one guy in a single game. I remember seeing something about it on NFL Films on ESPN. They might be able to compete with us.

I think Mark Sclereth or however his name is spelled makes no difference.. understand we dont need Bush we need an O-line to pass protect for Carr to take the load off of DD to get that extra yard to 2 on 1st down to so we can keep the D off balanced in a 2-5 ,4 or 3. Imagine if we have a TE who could take a SS or LB attention just long enough so that DD can make the 1st down or have them worried because our TE just caught a 15 yard pass now we have to think are they going to throw them him again and catch them off balanced. Also i do have to put some of the blame on the coaches to. We need to use a TE, WR, flanker, RB to chip and help out our LT more than we do.. Remember NE vs Ind AFC championship game 2 years in a row!!!!!

Schlereth is one of those talking heads that I respect. What is even more interesting about his comments is his pedigree - 10th round pick by the Washington Redskins and Casserly in 1989. Hooked up with the Broncos in 1995, with Alex Gibbs and Gary Kubiak.

To be fair he should only have compared our line to those of other teams that used guards* at all 5 positions. Innovators are always laughed at.

*Apologies to Chester, but I had to include his season starting position to make my little joke.

:tv: Lets pull out film of the worst OLs in history ... we'll call it a sackathon weekend .
The problem is our boys are probably a lot better paid than the other lousy lines . This would give us the edge in the worst OL in history . It takes a special person to overpay for bad talent .
I agree the Texans need to pick two OL in the first three reounds . Having said that Pitts , Weary , and Wand were picked in the 2nd and 3rd rounds .

The Oline just needs some time to "Gel", that's all

How can you say this when defensive linemen just blow by our linemen? Alot of the time they are in the backfield when Carr takes a snap and makes one step. This is total lack of blocking abilities, one on one, not because the line hasn't "gelled"!

He was being sarcastic. That blue icon represents a rolling of the eyes.

What? You mean there's a sack record that we haven't achieved?! Well, we've got three more games, so we'd better get to work on that! ;)

I wonder why they don't use the shotgun more. You can never have enough shotgun, I've always said. :howdy:

I see the rolling eyes, but......grrrrrr......

If I hear that lame-**** excuse, or the word EXECUTE once more this season....I am going to go postal.

Gelling is exclusive to Dr. Scholes commercials and Execute is a action left to TDCJ. :ok:

That is on the Oline, but his reads before the snap are on him.

David Carr: Can I just say one thing?

Dan Reeves: Say it, baby. Say it.

David Carr: I'm standing here, staring at Dan Reeves!

Dan Reeves: The **** of the walk, baby!

David Carr: And if Dan Reeves wants more shotgun, we should probably give him more shotgun!

Dan Reeves: Say it, baby!

David Carr: And, Kaiser, you are right - I am being selfish. But the last time I checked, we don't have a whole lot of plays that feature the shotgun.

Dan Reeves: I gotta have more shotgun, baby!

David Carr: ..and I'll be doing myself a disservice -- [begins to slightly laugh. Jerome Mathis turns away and bites down on his playbook to keep from laughing] -- and every member on this team, if I don't perform the hell out of this.

Dan Reeves: Guess what? I got a fever! And the only prescription.. is more shotgun!

Nice!! One of the greatest SNL skits of all time!!:ok:

I know exactly whats going on with our line, from having played tackle in high school. The bottom line is that the o-line never gets any pub, the only time you hear about them is when they get a penalty (false start, holding) The Texans are tired of this crap and decided to take a stand - "no more blocking and see how many sacks we can give up", now everyone is talking about them. Mission Accomplished!
