It'll never happen, but I'll play anyway.

I'd take Big Ben in a heartbeat. Now is the right time to get him because his stock is so low. Looks like Todd Haley is winning the battle of wills over there and it looks like a bad thing for the Steelers.

I don't think both guys will be back next year. If common sense prevails, then Haley's out.

Big Ben needs Mike Wallace back. I would love to see Big Ben throw to Andre Johnson, and Hopkins. It would be amazing seeing a solid run game with the chance of a deep ball programmed into the opposing defenses head

Big Ben is still a good QB, but he's on the way down. He'll be 32 next season, but he's more like 36 with all of the punishment he's taken. He's not like Brady of Manning where he spent the majority of his career trying to avoid hits.. his body has taken a toll and he can't move within the pocket like he once used to.

But it's a moot point, because no way in hell would the Steelers trade for Matt Schaub. They'd trade him for high draft picks if they were serious about trading him.. high draft picks I wouldn't be willing to give up for a QB with his best days behind him. If we're going to move this team forward.. then we need to go ahead and do that with a young QB that we develop or draft and develop.. a QB that still has his whole entire career ahead of him.. because if we take the "trade for Ben approach". We'll all just be sitting here in the middle of another horrible season again in a few seasons wondering what we should do at the QB position.

Nice to see you around HouSportsWriter.

Big Ben needs Mike Wallace back...

Not really. As a pretty heavy-duty Steeler fan - I've seen all but maybe 10 of their games since 1975 - what he needs the most is a decent offensive line.

It's a wonder he's been to three Super Bowls because for much of his time in the Burgh he's had a mediocre-or-worse OL.

He needs to get rid of the ball faster, too; he's always looking for the big play. So, from that standpoint, he does miss Wallace some.

But as much as I like him, he's on the down side. And I doubt that the Steelers have any interest in Schaub.

A related note: I'm pissed they didn't pluck Keenum off the Texans' practice squad last year.

While the Steelers were struggling with BatchWich (Charlie Batch, Byron Leftwich) with Ben was injured, I was on steelernation.com (as the Ghost of Frenchy Fuqua) touting the Casemeister.

The nerve of Kevin Colbert not to listen to me!

Why do we always get the **** end of the trades. Draft picks are valuable. Look what trading for MS cost us. Hell no.

Big Ben reminds me of a bit of Schaub: If he has a supporting cast of Pro-Bowlers around him he can be good. Otherwise, he's just average.

we have potential in case and we have to many holes to fill in the draft to afford to give away draft picks. this is a BIG no!

Well, if you believe Texian, (s)he says we don't have the money to pay a new crop of rookies anyway.

I only voted No because there wasn't a HELL NO option. Apart from my personal dislike for him, he's on the back side of his career, and with the way he hangs onto the ball, Derek Newton would get him killed.

well i don't believe him :slapfight:. schuab will be gone, maybe OD, possibly manning.
that leaves a lot of cap space.
Also i don't believe we are that much of a cap hell as some suggest

A few years ago I'd have done this but then the Steelers wouldn't have parted with him back then (as if they would today for that matter) but now we've missed our window and by the time we were ready to put the pedal down he'd be completely out of gas.

Actually what the Texans should have done back in 2002 was ignore Carr and make the smart pick with Julius Peppers. Just rolled with Tony Banks as our starter in 2002 and 2003. Of course take Andre Johnson in 2003. That's a no-brainer. Finally, after spending two years getting your offensive line setup the way you want it you pick Ben Roethlisberger with the 10th pick in the 2004 draft instead of Dunta Robinson. This means of course that you roll one more season with Glenn & Coleman as your corners but I don't think that's such a bad idea in hindsight.

The Texans would have looked very different if so many times in the past they'd just made the obvious move that was staring them in the face.

If we're going to play this game I would take Aaron Rodgers in 2005 instead of Travis Johnson.

6 weeks ago when everyone was blaming Schaub for this team's problems I said the problem was discipline and that changing QBs wouldn't make a difference. I stand by that. Trading draft picks away for an old big Ben would create more problems than it would solve.

Our QB has not thrown an interception in 3 weeks and we still have 3 losses. The problems with this team are a lot bigger than the guy under center. It is time to look for a new coach.

Mike

you would still have an overall saving and most guaranteed money will be already paid.

True. We're in cap hell if Schaub, Joseph, & Manning are allowed to play out their contracts. We can cut them & free up something close to $20M after Schaub's $3.5M. Subtract another $2.6M (I think) for Reed & we're still "okay" cap wise.

Not bothering to read entire thread, but everyone knows that no team would trade for Schaub's contract, right?

What if Kubiak gets fired and hired by another team . Kubiak might want Schaub's talents at the helm . :whip:

Yes I'm sure that would be a huge selling point in a job interview. Maybe he could bring in David Carr if the Schaub trade falls through.

He might become the QB coach for the Redskins and tell Shanny that RG3 is to mobile . He may tell him he has just the guy to get this system cooking .

When Ed Reed gets his first pick today your eyes will be opened to more truth about this franchise. Ed already told you...

There is a big difference between the team Schaub quarterbacked and the one Keenum has had for the last three weeks ...

Schaub had OD , Foster and a healthy Tate .... Keenum has had none of the above.

Keenum gets to run out there with Garrett Graham , Ryan Griffin , Dennis Johnson & Deji Karim ....

And don't forget Schaub was afforded a defense that had Cushing lining up inside .... Keenum gets a defense anchored by .... Jeff Tarpinian.

Keenum's team has lost three games by a combined 7 points .... In Schaubs four losses they were outscored by .... 80 , that's an average of 20 points.

When Ed Reed misses a tackle or gets hurdled today your eyes will be opened to more truth about this franchise. Ed already told you...

The Steelers organization wouldn't give up Big Ben for Schaub unless Houston gave up multiple picks along with him. Given the product Schaub has put out there these past few seasons maybe not even with that.

U know we could have drafted big BEN and troy polomalu

Man just think how different the landscape would have been .........:kitten:

but nah David carr was da man I guess and whoever are safety was at the time LOL

We took Travis Johnson instead of Aaron Rodgers.

Case keenum hasn't even won a game, and yet he is the "answer?" Doesn't make sense to me. His football iq isnt their. We need to go after a quarterback next season. Be it Big Ben or a rookie. Let Andre and Hopkins work with whoever they bring in for try outs. To see if they have that chemistry. Case can't even read a frickin blitz!!!

Nope. In 2005 you wouldn't have needed to because Roethlisberger would already be on your roster and Derrick Johnson would be sitting right in front of you waiting for you to call his name.

hindsight is fun:kitten:

It's even more fun when you remember screaming at your radio for the team to do just that (select Derrick Johnson) and ranting for days about it.

I'd really rather have been wrong and watching a winner but when you see them do these things (Okoye over Revis?) year after year regardless of who is making the calls it's hard not to relish having been right back then.

I could have GM'd this team to a better state than Charlie Casserly and Rick Smith have and no, that's not a case of delusional fan syndrome there. I think I could probably rattle off at least a dozen posters here who could easily do so as well. Probably a lot more. That's a sad thing to me not a point of some kind of pride. They've literally made choices that weren't even something a fan with a Draft magazine would do and fallen flat on their faces over and over again.

Morons run this team. Morons own this team.
