RIP 2013 Season

I was thinking this game would be the game where we could begin to turn things around. In my mind I was thinking we could beat the Cardinals, and win our next two games putting us at 5-6. We then could have lost just one game to finish 9-7 and possibly have a shot at the wild card.

Not anymore. 2-7? We are done. Keenum is a great QB, and I think he will be here for a while, but our OLine has just been complete ass this season. On top of that, The defense can't stop anything either. They at least played better today, against Carson Palmer. How do you think they'll do against Manning, and Brady? We will be lucky to go 6-10. As far as Kubiak staying, I can't speak on that. What I do know, is all bets are off. The season is over. And I'm one of the sunshine pushers! So you know when I'm saying it, it's been dead for quite some time.

I'll continue to watch the games, and hope that they can win, so I can get half off on my next pizza, but playoffs and Super Bowl aspirations are gone.

Defense played well enough to win. Our offense in the 2nd half has been atrocious. I blame the coaching staff. We don't seem to adjust at all in the 2nd half. We can't seem to do anything less than a 7 step drop in this offense and get torched on the blitz.

Well, it sure as heck is going to be an interesting offseason. Does Kubiak's health conditions actually act as job security? What about Wade? Schaub and Tate gone for good and do we draft a qb?

Stick a fork in 2013, it's done. But I'm still going to watch just to see Case mature. He has a way to go, but one things for sure, if that boy ever gets a real NFL O-line in front of him he's gonna be a killer.

Honestly, I think the Texans best move at this point is to move Kubiak in house, get a proven coach in and reload. Still talent there to be a good team. I think Wade's life cycle has done its usual...hot to start and then fading after 2-3 years. McNair won't fire Kubiak after his health issues. Kind of a built in excuse, thought hard to call a medical emergency an excuse. But I think its time to change directions.

Gary, Wade and the ENTIRE staff need to go.

Not sure why it could. It's not like we had a winning record until he went out. We sucked all year long and are fortunate to have the two wins we have actually.

Not surprised at the outcome, but I thought we would have remained in contention a little longer than 9 games.

Not so sure Wade needs to go. Look who he had to work with in this game and the defense didn't stink up the joint .... and add the Ed Reed bust to it, too.

They should but they probably won't clean house. This team can't break out of the soft image. This season has got to be a result of coaching.

No EVERYONE on this staff needs to go. Coaching candidates would fight in Thunderdome to coach here with the talent this team does have

It's been time since after 2009 and it will be time after next yr too. Rick/Gary aren't going anywhere unless 3-13 happens and as bad as they are they will beat the Jags twice and probably the Raiders plus the Tacks. That puts Rick/Gary at 6-10, BoB keeps them and uses the health scare as his reason to keep Gary. When the truth is BoB doesn't want to pay the last yr of Gary's contract.

It's not so bad guys. We're in position to have a top five draft pick. Probably even a top three pick the way we are going. All we have to do is reload this off-season with a good draft and I can't imagine this team not winning the AFC South in 2014. We had a bad year. It happens. I'm excited for the future.

Philips needs to go too. Kubiak, Philips & Marciano all fail to adjust. They don't adjust their systems and they don't make good half time adjustments. Philips failed to adjust his defense against the Patriots in the first match up last year. He used the same man to man with the same results in the playoffs.

3 men who believe their systems can't be beat.
3 peas in a pod. Time for the pod to be trashed.

Yep... We suck!
Dare I even say it? If we lose out and finish 2-14 we may even have the first overall pick if Tampa Bay wins a couple games. Not that I'm suggesting we tank. Just pointing out the facts. This sad talk is taking me back to 2005 all over again. Oh boy! Didn't think we'd ever be this bad again, record wise. The talent is there to win games but the coaching adjustments are horrible. We've had halftime leads of 21-3, 20-3 and 17-14, and still lost all three games.

**** is hitting the fan in Texans locker room:

Lots of frustration in the #Texans locker room today. Ed Reed says the Texans were outplayed and outcoached.

Ben Tate said he thought #Texans got away from running football in 2nd half. #Didn't tell coaches that bit has approached coaches in past

Boom goes the dynamite

Boom goes the dynamite

Lets be honest, you see this team, you see this talent and you see how we are losing and certain coaches (Dennison and Marciano mainly) SHOULD be the main targets of a lot of frustrations.

How often have we've the offense stall with either ill advised run plays or passing?

How often have we seen field position hampered due to bad decisions on special teams?

How many times have we heard praises for guys like Brooks Reed, Matt Schaub or/and Brice McCain when they haven't shown squat outside of maybe 3-4 great plays combined over the course of this whole season?

You can put it on players all day but if the coaches are still putting these players on the field then when does the buck stop at them?

Believe me, as someone who is a Boys fan and who has wanted to support the Texans more I have wanted Kubes gone for years. I think he is a mediocre coach who was saved by Wade's D and an a conservative owner who loves him. But with the health issues, McNair isn't going to let him go so the hope is to move him in house and go after a bug name who can take advantage of what talent is here.

Gary, Wade and the ENTIRE staff need to go
I hope everyone realizes that if they clean house with the staff that there's a chance Case and others go with them. Most new coaches like to bring in there own QB and if the Texans get a top 5 pick, which is looking like a real possibility now, they will probably use that pick to draft "their QB." Not saying it will happen, but it is a possibility. If you're good with that then OK. Question is, what will McNair do?

Looking at this team the way it is now, with a number of Pro Bowler's out (Daniels, Cushing, Manning, Foster), spotty O-line play, and a bunch of street FA's and rookies filling in, I'm surprised they have been able to make it close in the last 3 games. They've had their chances to win and Case has been a good spark for them, it just hasn't been enough. But, I'm not like most on here. I actually think all they need to get back in the thick of it next season is a few good draft choices and maybe some FA pickups in the off season.

I know this won't be popular but, I think they should keep Kubes, Wade, and most of the staff. Some of the big contracts will be gone next season (Schaub, Daniels, Wade Smith, Tate, etc). Sign Watt. Draft an ILB/OLB, CB, and "BIG" NT early, then get a "BIG/FAST" TE and RB in the mid rounds. Let's see what Quiz, B. Williams, and maybe a FA can do at RT and LG. If they do these things well I don't think they have to completely rebuild. It's the "cap" that's taken it's toll on the team the last few years combined with some "misses" on draft picks that have hurt more than anything else. Fix that and you're back in it IMO.

I just don't get why people keep saying Bob won't let Kubiak go because of his health issues. He is coming back next week. His health should be a totally separate thing from job performance. Keeping Kubiak because he feels sorry for him would be putting Kubiak above the team and fans and front office. Kubiak is responsible for the mess we see on sundays.

The problem with that is that this team was constructed heavily around what Gary Kubiak/Wade Phillips and other coaches wanted to begin with... and this is what happened. You can't tell me that signing Ed Reed, Shane Lechlar and a few rookies on the Front office insistence has resulted in the numerous failures we've seen in all phases of the game, especially given most of the failures were on the offensive and special teams sides.

I really liked Glover Quin and James Casey but they weren't THAT crucial to our success last season, especially since most of our issues and bad tendencies seem to have started toward the end of the previous season.

We have given Kubiak enough time and power to forge a winner, Wade Phillips I can see a case for staying, maybe even Rick Smith but short of giving up his play calling duties to a new OC, I see no reason to trust Kubiak won't hamper this team with another buddy hire like we have seen in Dennison as OC (in name only), and previously David Gibbs as our secondary coach or the failures of previous DCs like Frank Bush and Richard Smith.

Because that is what McNair has shown so far. Kubiak was a .500 coach with a propensity for bringing in his own guys to coach the D and it was hurting the team. He made him hire Wade and then the team improved. I don't think Kubes improved. Now you have this year and things going wrong and he collapses. McNair is loyal and will do what he did before...give a vote of confidence in the 1-2 more years because he feels bad and loyal. I just think that is how he runs things. I may be wrong but I can't see it any other way.

The coaching on all sides of the ball has been atrocious. Bob McNair should fire Joe Marciano tonight on his own accord along with the fat aggy kicker we have who is the worst in the NFL. Clean house completely. Rick Smith has blown 2nd-4th round draft picks the past 3 years which is killing this team. Our secondary sucks ass.

While not sexy, this team desperately needs a stud OL, the Matthews kid from A&M would be a great addition. For a 3-4 team we have a lousy collection of linebackers. I want to see new edge rushers next year.

I would like to clean house in the FO as well. My guess though is that if we get rid of the coaching staff we will need a transition guy until a new GM can be hired. Maybe Rick Smith stays through the offseason like Casserly did?

Dunno, I really think this team is where KC was last year. Good talent that is undercoached.

How do you know this is what Kubes, Wade, and other coaches "wanted?" Did they want to get rid of Ryans, Williams, Winston, Brisiel, Quinn, Barwin, Casey, and others or did they let them go because of the "cap?" All of these players individually may not have been "that crucial to our success last year," but together they were! How many people think losing Brisiel and Winston didn't hurt last year and this year? You can't lose that many good players over 2 years, without replacing them with at least equal talent, and expect the team to continue to play at a high level. Especially when you lose OD, Cush, Manning, and Foster to injury and have your starting QB (Schaub) play about as bad he could. There just isn't enough depth to overcome that.

Look, I don't know if McNair will get rid of Kubes, but if he does, it's more than likely going to be a clean sweep for all the coaches. Don't know if he'll keep Rick Smith or not either. In my opinion though, and I know I'm in the minority here, I don't think it's a system/coaching failure as much as it is a talent/player failure. By that I mean I believe they've lost too much talent over the last 2 years and haven't been able to replace it for one reason or another.

It's not so bad guys. We're in position to have a top five draft pick. Probably even a top three pick the way we are going. All we have to do is reload this off-season with a good draft and I can't imagine this team not winning the AFC South in 2014. We had a bad year. It happens. I'm excited for the future.

I'm excited about players but the coaching staff will probably not change even though that's the first that should be addressed. And even if McNair cleans out the coaching staff I'm scared to death of him bringing in a milk toast coach like a dick jouron or some other dud. I'd be excited about briles or sumlin but that seems tooooo risky for a man like McNair.

Yeah, we're not going anywhere. What we're watching now is Case Keenum's audition for starter in 2014. That's about it.
Case has yet to win one, but he's looking like he belongs.

Two penalties in addition to the blown coverage today. Just...ouch.

:mariopalm: no our defense sucks outside watt
Not fully. The loss of Cushing, then Manning exposed our depth issues. Swearinger shows promise and Keo is far better than I'd hoped. Ninja Assassin is "good", but the rest need some work.

Philips needs to go too. Kubiak, Philips & Marciano all fail to adjust. They don't adjust their systems and they don't make good half time adjustments. Wade isn't the reason the Offense hadn't scored a 2nd half TD until today. His Defense is the only reason its been close at times as well. The 3-4 has always been vulnerable to the run, and the secondary had no help with (already retired) Reed back there.

Marciano only needs to make one adjustment...to the retirement home.

Kubiak? - He's never made good halftime adjustments (nor has his O-coordinator) and the line play had been in a decline since Winston left. Toss in losing your starting TE, various line injuries and the RB and we're toast. I was ready to bring in his replacement three years ago.

I just want the season to be over, not because we are losing every game (which doesn't help) but because every week some key component of our team goes down with an injury. This week it was Kareem Jackson.

Search my posts for Paper Tiger and you'll see I've been suspect of this team since they were 2-0. Not tooting my horn, but more to build an understand of this:

Now that you're, here, take comfort knowing you will soon enter a state of numbness, followed by little feeling at all. Then, eventually, when your team starts showing a hint of pulse, you will NOT get that feeling of euphoria, thus will not be let down with the hard crash in the 2nd half.

The pain and suffering will continue, but you simply will not feel it.

The season is lost and winning games is of no benefit to the Texans. It is time to have the bad season like the Colts did a couple years ago so we can replenish our OB spot. Case is a good player but he is not the future of the team. Go for the high draft pick.

No. Never. At no time do I want the Texans deliberately tanking games. I want to see them win out for the year even if they miss the playoffs. I do not care about the draft position enough to ever root for the Texans to lose a game.

Nope. Not gonna do it.
