I have felt a problem with Carr is an inability to read defenses. Just not sure he has the IQ for a top level NFL QB. I can agree with the concept that the guy did not get the needed time on the bench his first year to become a student of the game. But heck that is what the off season is for.

People who have already earmarked Dan Reeves as the next head coach of the Texans are getting slightly ahead of themselves. One league source indicated that first and foremost, Reeves is being brought in simply because owner Bob McNair feels he can't count on general manager Charley Casserly to give him an accurate account of the roster – particularly quarterback David Carr, who is due a bonus of $8 million this offseason.

McNair's lack of confidence should signal the end of coach Dom Capers and Casserly, but it doesn't necessarily mean Reeves is the logical choice to take over. In reality, Reeves' early arrival actually complicates his candidacy for Capers' job, since his hiring – even with a minority interview – could be interpreted as a circumvention of the Rooney Rule.

I tend to agree with you. I don't think this necessarily makes him a bad QB, but it will severely limit the type of offense that he can ultimately command.

Those coaches seem like good targets, eventhough the Bengals guy I doubt will get the nod cause he has to prove himself more. Sean Payton has been talked about for about 3 years now and could take over in Oakland after they get rid of Turner. Hey what about Turner as an OC. he has been successful.

I would have no problem with the triumvirate of JJ, Norv and Butch.

wow kaiser you are going deep with that one. I could not see JJ as our HC I could see him as a possible GM candidate if needed. you are talking about Butch Davis I think. I was thinking more along the lines of Kubiak or Phillips, Turner, HOke or best canidate, Marciano. Kubiak would also bring Dennison from Denver to help the O-Line. Not sure how either HC would get along with Turner, but he has always made it work at OC.

How about JJ at GM. Kubiak as HC. Norv as OC and Butch at DC. Super Bowl in Jan 2008 will not be far off.

You know I likely would not have a problem with that. Not sure Butch Davis is the best DC available. How about a stand up character guy that is a local product like SF LB coach Mike Singletery. Dennison still needs to be brought in. Kaiser you seem to share the opinion that they will go offensively with the next HC. I think so to, not overly wild offense like Martz, but something that is still a good balance like Kubiak or hopefully not Sean Payton.

I want an offensive mind. Losing stinks, but give me something that will get me out of my seat at least. I like coaches who can bring players with them and have an attitude. I feel Davis is that type of guy. Heck he coached AJ and PBuch and notable free agents such as Reggie Wayne. The guy can coach and recruit talent(which is somehting you usually do not discuss in the NFL). JJ, Turner and Butch arguably managed the greatest 4 year span in the NFL until the Pats came along.

Is he incapable of reading defenses or is some of it a matter of what he's allowed to do in response to what he sees. I'm keeping my mind very open when it comes to David Carr until I see what someone else like Dan Reeves or the next HC and OC can do with him.

It's not that I don't see problems with Carr's game because I do. It's more that the current regime has clouded up everything and much like Bob McNair I don't think I've been given the straight story about any of this. I certainly know where McNair is coming from. I have doubts about pretty much everything the Texans have ever told me. I think we the fans also need to get a report from an independent "consultant" too.

Wonder if we could all collect some money and pay Bum to go spend a week with the Texans and then come back and tell us what he thinks?

Now, that would be the talk of the NFL - Posters on Texan's Web Site hire a consultant to review their Ball Club. Would be kind of fun paticularly if you could get Bum to do it, but I suspect it would be viewed in a most negative light.

I still think Zimmer would be a good coach, he's had 12 years of experience and he's learned under Parcells now for a couple of years.

I could live with Zimmer and I'll tell you IMO. He's a guy with a fiery disposition and I think he would let the players know he wasn't going to put up with any BS. More in the JJ mold, my way or the highway. :yahoo:

Bill must be a very good teacher. Look at the guys he's had that have done well. Zimmer would be a good choice. He's done a very nice job and seems to be able to adjust to new ideas and schemes. Maybe he'll get an interview somewhere.
