ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Running back Willis McGahee has asked the Buffalo Bills to trade him if he is not their starter on opening day, a source told The Associated Press on Friday.

McGahee's request was not issued as an ultimatum, but the player made clear he won't be happy playing backup to incumbent Travis Henry, said the source, who is close to McGahee and spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Bills spokesman Scott Berchtold said, "There is no truth to that whatsoever."

Nice attitude IF this is true.

So, if my math is correct, this makes 2 RBs on the Bills who want to be the starter. Seems like taking him in the first round wasn't a great idea if they end up with two unhappy RBs. I don't know why the guy is demanding to be starter now. He'll be the starter next season for sure. It's a shame because I liked what Donahoe (sp) was doing up there in Buffalo.

This is weird. Im not sure why he would want to be the starter this year. Im sure he wants to play, but he can take breather snaps for henry and start next year. Also if Henry gets injured he will be full time. I think they will work it out and mcGahee will be the backup on the bills this year.

I don't think either of them are going anywhere. Buffalo has them both under contracts, and when the season starts I'm sure we will see both of them suited up in Buffalo Uniforms. Henry will play because he knows he's essientially trying out for another team, and McGahee will play because he wants to prove any of his doubters wrong. Come next season McGahee will be the starter, and Henry will probably be traded before the Draft.

Ok. Operating under the assumption that this is factual then McGahee is not only the type of guy I don't want on my team but he's also a complete fool for thinking that he can walk in and make a pronouncement like that and not lower his team mates opinion of himself.

What has he earned? At this point the answer is nothing. All this does is make McGahee look like a petulant child. Henry can't think much of someone who'd deliver an ultimatum like that. It might not be rock solid, carved in stone but it is an ultimatum. Someone who drops that kind of "request" isn't going to be the "know your role" kind of backup that any team's going to be happy to have sitting on the sideline.

You want to be the starter Willis? Then beat Travis Henry out of the job decisively. Make sure that nobody could possibly doubt that you're the better back by doing it day in and day out. Thinly veiled threats just make you look small.

why the hell don't they just trade one of them to Miami for Ogunleye? (sp). He is talking about holding out the entire season if need be, and the Bills have what Miami needs. Sounds elementary to me.

Because Buffalo is aware of his talent. They don't want to trade him to a divisional opponent and have to face him twice a year.

If it's true that McGahee has requested this, what a way to show appreciation to the team that took an enormous risk in drafting you in the first round.

who says they have to trade McGahee? You're right though, trading with a divisional opponent you face twice a year isn't a great idea......especially if you give up 3 potential defensive picks to get one (Babin for Starks, LaBoy, Schoebel essentially) But I digress.............

McGahee hasn't started or even PLAYED in a real game for a year and half. IF and I say IF he did make that statement...he is demanding too much. Check- he is demanding too much for who the other RB is. Travis Henry has been very good for the bills and is still young. McGahee should be happy with splitting time with him and getting some experience. I can understand him making that demand next year after having a good season because I loved him at Miami and think the guy is(was) an excellent back.

The Bills are in a good situation. From limited things I've seen and heard...he's been doing a great job in camp, and it sounds like he's pretty much fully recovered and back from the injury. Meaning- Buffalo can get a great deal trading him or maybe even Henry...whoever they see fitting their team best in the future.

I believe Henry stated earlier that he would demand to be traded if McGahee was the starter for the opener for the Bills. So neither back is very content at the moment. They won't trade either this year. Miami may be desperate for a RB, but I am sure that the Bills won't trade either Henry or McGahee to a division rival without there being a very steep price. Miami won't likely trade Ogunleye (sp?) for a RB, or you'd hear the agent blabbing about it first because the agent, Rosehaus, would need to get a deal done with whatever perspective team he was traded to first. Also, Miami is dependant upon its defense this season even moreso than in seasons past. Ogunleye would be a key part of that defense. At the end of the season we will likely see Henry traded if McGahee shows the Bills he was worth the 1st round pick they invested in him last year. Miami has shown interestest in Jackson of the Browns, and will likely pick up a less heralded name than McGahee or Henry this year and attempt to land a bigger back next year. Miami also sent Rick Williams a letter demanding he come play out his contract for the Fins, or pay back the 8 million dollars to the organization. I don't think Ricky will come back to them, but still an interesting side note. Both will play even though they both think they should be the starter, and neither is going to want to sit and let the other take their job away from them. They'll both want to fight it out on the field and outdo one another. But McGahee is likely the starter of the future, and when it comes to RB youth sometimes wins over experience. All in all its a problem many other teams wouldn't mind having. Two starting caliber RBs who, though upset with their current situation, can make big plays for you.

"I know I'm better than Clinton!"

He has moves and speed...not a rookie. He could have went last year. Too bad they gonna wasted a one. 1K yrd season back up is good problem. They just need to handle it write to make it work. QB will be more of an issue. Drew is going to lose his job this season. Josh has skills and tough under pressure. They once punked "The H",so I can't stand the Bills, thanks for the wings, too bad a good cane is wasted on there bench. :soapbox:

Yes, we can get rid of DD and BJopur, lol! Don't shoot I 'm from Htown.
BTW, this team(Bill's 35-3) caused me heart ache. I even had to route for "the girls", during there Superbowl run.

ASSUMING THIS IS A TRUE STORY...McGahee is young and must be getting some bad advice--or he's another Kellen Winslow "II" (gimme a break with that Roman numeral!), who came out of a top college program (coincidentally the same one? Hmmmm.) thinking that he's more than he is. This is a rotten approach to the guy's first real PRE-season, and I hope this story's bogus.

If he really did say it, they should wait to get rid of him later, because to do it now would put them in a lousy bargaining position. I agree that they shouldn't give him to anyone in their division, even though Ogunleye is a tempting player in the prime of his career. Ship him or Henry to some NFC team.
