UPDATE: Danieal Manning on IR

Wolf

100% Texan
http://nflspinzone.com/2013/10/14/houston-texans-danieal-manning-miss-6-8-weeks/

Houston Texans*SS Danieal Manning made the switch from FS to a role in the box following the signing of Ed Reed and departure of previous SS Glover Quin, and it’s still too early to judge whether or not the switch has hurt or helped Manning. The 31-year-old veteran has recorded 24 tackles, a sack, and three passes defended so far this season, but he’s been more impressive in coverage than in run defense, which really isn’t a surprise.

There’s some bad news regarding Manning,as Jerome Solomon of the*Houston Chronicle reports, citing a source, that Danieal Manning is set to miss 6-8 weeks with a leg injury. It’s just more horrible luck for the Houston Texans, as they are already dealing with an injury to starting quarterback Matt Schaub (say what you want, but he’s a whole lot better than T.J. Yates), a significant injury to tight end Owen Daniels (short-term I.R.), and it seems like Duane Brown is still not 100%.

Not like Manning helped a whole lot on his KR though, we seriously need to just stop taking the freaking ball out of the EZ period, it hasn't done any good whatsoever. Of course that'd require "Coach" Joe to actually do something instead of sit around with his thumb up his azz.

Keo, Ed Reed, Swearinger & Pleasant only healthy S on roster. Who knows how healthy Reed is since he hasn't made contact since 2012. Texans just about forced to make a roster move.

I was wanting them to pick up Kerry Rhodes instead of signing the dinosaur. He's still a FA. Don't know if the whole him being gay thing is an issue but I think it'd be a perfect fit for the squad anyway.

This season is shot anyway, so it's not like this is a big deal. Give the under classmen some practice.

I'm excited to see what Swearinger can do with a starting spot.

Play the rookies, were playing for next season anyway.

Swearinger's played a lot and has been a huge liability in coverage. Not giving up on him at all, but he hasn't been impressive. Then again, all our safety's have been average

Even though he screwed up the catch, Manning showed more wiggle/elusiveness than Keyshawn. That's just sad.

Now Kubiak is referring to Manning having a knee problem. Drew Sougherty on HT.com:

Danieal Manning has a "significant knee injury", Gary Kubiak said on Monday. The Texans will be without the veteran strong safety for an undetermined length of time, according to the head coach.

"It's something that's going to take some time," Kubiak said. "We're trying to evaluate exactly how much time before we make decisions on moving forward."[/QUOTE]

The wording is beginning to make me think that Manning could ultimately be out for the season.

What play did the injury occur on?

We are probably not going to see much difference between him and Keo / Swearinger. I think Manning has not lived up to his free agent potential.

Not sure the play but here's when it happened.

HOUSTON -- It appears Houston Texans safety Danieal Manning does have a serious injury that could keep him out several weeks.

But it's not a fractured fibula as the Houston Chronicle reported.

"Danieal, the way it’s described to me as of right now, what I know right now, he has a significant knee injury and it’s something that’s going to take some time," coach Gary Kubiak said. "We’re trying to evaluate exactly how much time before we make a decision moving forward. That’s what’s being evaluated right now."

Manning told me earlier today that he had an MRI that revealed no tears in his knee. At the time he was awaiting the results of a CT scan and was surprised to hear the report that he suffered a hairline fracture in his fibula.

Manning hyperextended his knee in the third quarter of Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams.

Hradhak,

Evidently, the Texans don't want the findings released. The story of the MRI AND CT scan make little sense. As usual, we are given little information to go by.

First thing you think of with a knee hyperextension is the PCL (posterior collateral ligament) and/or the ACL. Now, if the report of no ligament damage is accurate, I'm starting to believe there may be a stress or otherwise tibial (possibly plateau) fracture or a fracture involving a bone fragment attached to a knee ligament (which could be technically be referred to as "not having any ligament tears"). None of these would involved a return to play in less than 2 months, and probably more realistically longer.

Yay! Not only will Keo be just as bad in coverage, but he will whiff like crazy ob tackle attempts! Wasn't he supposed to he able to lay some wood coming out of college? I can't tell.

I would prefer Swearingers athletic ability vs Keos veteran presence. <sarc>

Keo was Wade's personal choice after the North South game. Coming out of college, he ran a very slow at the NFL Combine and didn't test out very well overall. He was always projected more of a traditional strong in the box type of safety at this level and was predicted to struggle in coverage since he didn't have much range. He probably would do better as an LB but would then probably get beaten by tight ends and slot receivers in any man coverage.

Don't fret. With Grandpa Reed ailing, DJ will get plenty of playing time. How does a Keo/DJ safety duo make you feel?

Keo was Wade's personal choice after the North South game.

No doubt, Wade's lilttle Trojan Horse. I bet as soon as he's named interim head coach he'll kick Keo to the curb & move Brandon Harris to safety then sign a RT off the street.

You guys are hilarious. Giving up on the season already. The Colts just got beat by the Chargers, they have Manning and the Broncos in their house next week. They are not as good as their fans and some of you think. That's a 2 game slide before the break. Then they face the Texans in Reliant.

I say not so fast to those of you who have given up on the Texans and crowned the Colts AFCS champs, but then I am sure many of you will call me crazy. Oh well... let's see what happens.

I'm with you Nitro. We're only two games back in the division with 10 more games to play... and we should be already be playing for next season???

^^^factor in a few more injuries, terrible QB play, terrible play calling, defense coming down to earth, dissension and I could see this season as being over.

I would love to be wrong and hope I am. A nice run to finish the season beating up the afc south and making the postseason would be great.........but I just don't see it.

I'm not going to call you crazy. But the Colts are better than you're giving them credit for. Andrew Luck isn't as good as "everybody" is trying to make him out to be, but the Colts are a good football team.

I'm rooting for Denver to beat Indy, but it's not guaranteed. The Colts D will surprise you. I'm betting the Broncos won't put 35 points on them. The question is can the Colts score in the 30s. Von Miller will be playing & if he can get in Luck's grille like the Chargers D Line did...

I'm sorry, but I'm looking forward to that game more than I'm looking forward to ours. That's going to be a good one.

Did you see 2-4? Did you see us getting outscored by 20+ in 3 games already this season? By the Rams?

I know I didn't.

But now we have seen it. It's almost like the the preseason hopes and dreams (and seemingly mystical foreknowledge) of the Texans blowing through the division and the league isn't happening in reality.

Is reality wrong, or is the fantasy of a Texans juggernaut just that, a fantasy?

Texans control their own destiny... The division is very much available for the taking... Just need to sweep Jacksonville and go 2-1, maybe 3-0 against Indy and tenn the rest of the way... Doable, certainly, though not likely.

9-7 may be good enough to win the AFC South this year. Texans still have a shot but it's going to require something we've never done before: Win a road game against the Colts. We have to go 6-0 in the division and own every potential tiebreaker with the Colts and Titans - also can't take the two games with the Jaguars lightly.

I see where you're coming from, but what have you seen that leads you to believe that the Texans can pull this out. Our schedule is far from a cream puff one and the team seems to be imploding, judging by the product on the field not media reports or player quotes.

Doable? We have a better record than the Jags and Steelers in the AFC. That's it. The 0-fer Jags and the 1 win Steelers. Other than that every team in the AFC is in the race...mathematically. WE GOT A SHOT!

In all honesty, I think cheering Schaub's injury pissed them off. Now, they'll rally around the gimp & play like they know they can.

Exactly. Don't make sense giving up now.

It shouldn't be an issue but when it comes to this team and how they operate you know it would be a huge issue.

Didn't see your pic before I posted. Definitely classic knee hyperextension. Thanks for posting.

Ah yeah thanks for the info CnD. It doesn't look good for a return. Those hyperextension injuries can be really bad. I don't see him returning this season.

I'm also suprised with the Texans' sudden lack of information releases regarding Manning and Schaub's injury.

Schaub's "little bit of everything" with his leg makes me really wonder, especially since they MRI'd his ankle and knee.

Actually, they only MRI'ed his lower leg, including his ankle and foot.....no knee.
