It seems highly likely that we will end up getting the 1st round Reggie Bush pick providing Reggie steps out. I am a D. Davis fan and he is a great running back and go to guy and therefore I don’t think we need another Running Back. We don’t need to fix what isn’t broke. I think we need to be sensible in using Reggie Bush as a bargaining chip for Offensive Linemen etc.

I know Reggie is special and a bag of chips but we got one heck of a running back already, who can play and we need to be smart with the pick and use it to fix what is really broke and improve in the areas where we are lacking. It will be hard giving Reggie up, this I know, but sometimes you have to make the hard choices to fix what is really wrong. To be fair, Davis deserves to play and his performance despite our sorry lack of an offensive line is well beyond expectations. Davis is an impressive player and he should be our guy next year. Reggie could be our ticket to all our problems if we make the right choices and hopefully we will. Davis fits here in Houston and you have to love the guy honestly.
 
I disagree with you. I think we have one very ordinary running back who comes alive at the end of every year against generally poor run defenses and teases us with another thousand yard campaign that didn't really make any difference in the win column.

Having said that though I do not think that trading down for more picks will be the end of the franchise and ruin of us all. Like everyone else I'll hope that the picks are used wisely and that they help our team.

Then if they don't work out and Reggie Bush goes on to be the kind of phenomenal talent that he's being spoken of as I will stalk this board day and night for the rest of his career raging about it and throwing his stats and accomplishments in the face of every single person who advocated trading his rights away. ;)

Do you have a source for that Dunta quote? I've never heard that and it sounds a little suspect to me that 1) he'd say that at all, 2) he'd say that about a player that hasn't declared for the draft yet, I know coaches and GMs can't comment specifically on players that haven't declared their eligibility.
 
I see nothing wrong with having D.Davis stick around even if we do end with Reggie Bush. You need two good backs anyway and with Davis and Bush we will have one of the best running games in the league. Sort of like what the Atlanta Falcons have with Duckett and Dunn. Plus with Bush (if we do draft him), we can line him up as a receiver which will add another dimension to our offense.

Well, he didn't say "we need to get Reggie Bush in the draft this year" - he said only a fool wouldn't want him, which is substantially different.

We should be able to get more than this year's first and third rounders from them, even if we're just trading down from #1 to #2. We should be able to get their second and probably next year's second out of it too, that's about even on the draft pick value chart, plus they'll likely be willing to spend more than that chart says since it is Bush they'd be trading for.
 
Texan fans, you dont have to worry about the first pick. We both suck, but the Texans are seriously better than the niners right now and you will beat us week 17.

Well NinerPheen I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if we beat you we will probably still get the #1 pick because your strength of schedule is harder than ours.
 
Davis was originally drafted as a 3rd down back but he's proven to be more valuable than that, not to mention you don't pay someone $22 million to be a third down back.

I personally LOVE Domanick Davis. I think he is a very solid running back, he ranks 12th in the league in rushing yards behind an awful offensive line, and 8 men consistently in the box because of the lack of a deep passing game. However, when you have the ability to get a player with unprecedented upside like a Reggie Bush, you must take that. When you have as many weak spots as the Texans have, you have to take the best available player with the number one pick. Draft Bush, let him become a Pro-Bowl player. He can obviously play running back (8.9 yards per carry). He can catch the ball out fo the backfield (He would be very comparable to an LT or a Westbrook in this regard). He can line up at reciever, because he has amazing hands, and would give us a threat opposite AJ in the recieving corps... he can return punts, which would allow us to get rid of the Buchannon who has been a let-down to say the least...AND he would put huge numbers of people in the seats... Keep Davis he has more rushing yards than Steven Jackson, Carnell Williams, Fred Taylor, Ronnie Brown, Chris Brown, Jamal Lewis, Deshaun Foster, and Curtis Martin... But use Bush as well... get him his touches and watch the wins pile up... GO TEXANS

There is nothing automatic in trading down. We could get 2 pro bowlers or 2 toilet bowlers.
 
I really can't say what I'd do anymore because I don't know what other teams will give for him. I'm sure it will be a lot, but how much EXACTLY I don't know. It all comes down to that, really.

Meaning we'll get stomped on prime time again like we did twice this year, and Bush will not get us on a primetime game anyways unless we were already going to be there.
 
That's not true. Monday Night Football loves putting on marquee players regardless of whether they deserve it. They had no problem putting on LT when the Chargers were bad or Eli Manning when the Giants were bad last year or Michael Vick when the Falcons were bad.

People are going to want to watch Reggie Bush so they will put whatever team he is playing for on national television
 
Each team is required to have at least one prime time game in a two year span, so likely those teams we up for their turn anyways and it happened that they had a young star on their team. We had our chance twice this year and lost by a combined 87-27, so I wouldn't be surprised if we don't even get one of the Sunday afternoon games next year.
 
He's the most anticipated rookie in years, that could warrent prime time. Contrary to what people think, we arent as bad as our record says. With new coaching and a good off season we could be a solid team. And I dont see us bringing anything but our A game Vs. Dallas.

I realize we're not as bad as our record says (I've been one of the people proclaiming that the most all year long) and I'd love to see us get a prime time game, especially against Dallas (as long as we are good enough to win that one, I don't want to lose to the Cowgirls on national TV), but after our shoddy performance in those two games this year and the perception around much of the league that we're so horrible, I'm not sure I see us getting a prime time game next year. Hopefully we'll get the NFC East teams for the next two years and we can stomp the Cowboys on Monday night in 2007.
