Who Stays and Who Goes?

Practice Squad
After the final cuts in September how many RB's will the Texans keep and who do you think they'll be? :um:

I asked this question to a few others but now I'll pose it to you. I looked at the tape of last weeks game and noticed him during last season, but I have to say this. T. Martin looked real good last week and if he continues to improve it looks like he will be getting more playing time this year. He's big and strong and looks really good. Any thoughts on him?

3 HBs and 2 FBs

HB-Davis
Hollings
Wells

FB-Baxter
Norris

PS Anderson will be on IR or Practice Squad

hey I heard Skip Hicks waslet go by the Bengals. What about him, I always thought he was a good back-up back.

I quess it depends on how much he costs and how injuried Davis, Wells, and Anderson are? :twocents:

Baxter is slated to get some touches this weekend in Pittsburgh so keep a look out.

Casserly drafted Hicks, but I don't think he's too impressed with him now. The guy's been out of the league for 2 seasons, I don't think anyone is too impressed with him.

I got to see a practice this week and there are two new RB's. Coleman and Matthews. Coleman looks pretty good, not sure about Matthews. Since there are some hurt guys on the team and Anderson will probably be on the reserves...will they keep either of these two new guys?

I highly doubt that they'd keep either of the new guys. Essientially they're just there to take some snaps so that Hollings/Baxter won't have to play the whole game. They'll get to show other teams in the league what they can do, and maybe it will earn them a spot in another team's TC next year or perhaps a roster spot. I think the Texans will end up with a depth chart like this:

RB Davis
Hollings
Wells

FB Norris
Baxter

In training camp, you need a certain amount of players at each position just so you have enough bodies to do all the repetitions that are necessary. If you have multiple injuries at a certain position (say running back), you need to bring in players even if they have no chance of making the roster or even the practice squad. Otherwise, you would overwork the healthy running backs just to make sure all the quarterbacks, wide receivers, etc can get in their repetitions. That is where the term "training camp fodder" comes in. To have a successful training camp, you need a few guys to fill in spots so everyone that will make the team can get their work in.

Coleman and Matthews are training camp fodder.

Fodder (n) - A consumable, often inferior item or resource that is in demand and usually abundant supply
