Nah. I think we've had enough old-school coaching. Maybe as a GM, though...IF Dan's even slightly interested in working that hard at this point in his life.

I think he'll eventually move into the job. I think it's funny how he said he won't be involved with game planning or the players, but he will be evaluating them. Sure. Smart move by McNair. Bring in a new coach and have him start getting an idea of his personel a little early. It also means we might not have to go through a total roster teardown and Reeves ran the 3-4 in the past.

Personally I don't even think he's here to try out for the GM position. I think he is exactly what they say he is and I think he's going to look it all over very carefully and then tell Bob McNair exactly what he thinks without the slightest bit of sugarcoating. Then I think Casserly is gone along with Capers and the next coach and GM will come with Dan Reeves personal recommendation. I don't think he'll be either one of them though.

Look for someone who's worked under him in the past who he trusts and would give a step up. As for the GM, again look for an executive that he has worked with in the past and who he thinks did a good job.

I could be selling Bob short and maybe he'll take the information and then go pick up the phone and call Jimmy Johnson or somebody else he has in mind. I don't think so though. I think he brought someone in because he still doesn't quite know if Casserly has screwed his team up and he still isn't quite sure whether he could do this on his own.

If I were him I'd go ahead and do it on my own. I think how difficult it is to be a successful NFL owner is grossly overestimated. Give me the Texans and I'll be in the playoffs in two years. Easy. ;)

I think Reeves has been brought in because he is a friend of McNair's and is very knowledgeable about the sport. He is going to tell him what he thinks as an honest opinion about his assessment of the team and McNair is going to do what ever he wants with that information. Reeves doesn't have an agenda like Capers and Casserly, so he will tell him how it is. Someone said this earlier and I agree, Reeves is basically going to audit the team.

I believe he will stay on as a consultant through the hiring of our new staff and be on a dotted line to McNair through the draft peeving Cass, but will keep his job unless he resigns.

Prospective projects on the board for Reeves - renegotiate Carr contract after release, 4-3 scheme, trading down.

Coordinator position, maybe. HC, probably not. Kinda like Jim Fassel did with Baltimore this past year.

This may very well be how it turns out, but this situation has got that whole deja vu thing going for it like when W hired Cheny to advise him on a VP selection.

I see this as the first step from that Chronicle article about McNair. From a buissness point of view there is a conflict of interest. Casserly and Capers want to save their jobs, the way they go into an offseason would probably be more harmful than starting over.

Reeves also lets the Texans attach a known name to their franchise late in the season maybe a a little hello to the rest of the NFL that we are going to spend money and work hard to get out of the basement of the NFL. Its a good message to send since you arn't going to fire anyone before the season ends.

What are you guys talking about? Has there been talk between the two?

Do you know we signed Dan Reeves as a consultant?

I also believe he brought him in a little early cause someone probably put a bug in his ear that some other team was going to go after him in the off season with all the coach firing that is going to go on. Also, its a way to get Reeves started a little early.

I'd love to see the report that he gives McNair. You know it is going to be filled with how incompetent Capers, Casserly, and Fangio are. I think it could be a best seller in Houston.

I don't think Reeves will be the next coach. I don't even think he wants it, but I'd be happy with it.

Since he was hired "for six weeks" this lends a lot of credence to this idea. The biggest issue is going to be finger pointing and McNair has already come out and said he's going to ask tough questions. Casserly and Capers will spin this season as best they can. Reeves will watch the last three games (plus some other tape I imagine) and give him the straight bull. When the new coach (and hopefully GM) are hired Reeves will move on.
