Red Zone--Zone blocking

Again today we could not TD in the red zone. Year after year this is a weakness for our coach. Seems like we could prepare our 2nd team OL to just play forward. I am very hacked about the short passes inside the 10. The running game falters due to defense playing the zone block by filling all the gaps. This has been and will be our downfall. Red Zone scoring is a must and not 3 points.
What is the answer??:kubepalm:

Thanks for reading it:bravo::bravo:

Foster had how many tds near the goal line last year?

Do you not remember how this O was a machine in 2011 when we had one of the best O-Lines in the league? We have been trying to get back to that level on the line since then, and losing Brown puts us at rock bottom w this lot imo.

Red zone penetration is the weakness of zone blocking. The lighter, faster linemen are stuffed by a compressed defense. Foster's vision compensated for it for three years. This year it's the TE's. You'll notice that the Ravens covered the TE's tightly in this game. But one piece of the solution, in my opinion, would be power blocking by Brandon Brooks.

If Kubiak can get over settling for field goals fades to Hopkins might finally give us a decent red zone option. Schaub doesn't have the arm to drill the ball into tight spaces (which is why I'd like to see them take more chances within the twenties. But that's another story...).

It would help to hand off to the up back on the goal line too. The defense doesn't have time to penetrate tha LOS that way.

A big portion of the problem came as a result of decisions made at the beginning of last season. The loss of Brisel and Dreessen to FA and release of Winston and Vickers has never been replaced with equal or better talent. This problem can be directly attributed to the lack of salary cap space. The Texans had to reduce the roster and were unable to adequately replace the losses due to the salary cap. The Texans are also playing against better defenses than they did a year ago. The Titans had BIG dollars to spend in FA and it's showing good results.

The lone exception is Brooks who does appear to be coming in to his own as an equal or better replacement for Brisel.

In other news Joe Mays has been out playing Brian Cushing. On that note Demeco Ryans was traded due to the salary cap and as a result the Texans became vulnerable to giving up rushing yards in the middle. However Joe Mays has been a pleasant surprise filling the middle.
