Chance Warmack calls J.J. Watt 'just another guy'

Titans rookie Chance Warmack calls J.J. Watt 'just another guy'

The Tennessee Titans rookie guard, who faced Watt in Sunday's overtime loss to the Texans, doesn't see what all the fuss is about.

"He's just another guy, a talented dude, but he puts his helmet on just like me," Warmack said Monday, per the Tennessean. "I am not going to give him any more credit than he deserves. He's a talented player. But everybody has a weakness, and he does, too."

Watt recorded a pair of sacks and four hits on quarterback Jake Locker on Sunday. Two of Houston's four takedowns came against Warmack, who admitted Watt was, well, productive:

"He did (have some success). But that's football," Warmack said. "You are going to get beat. There are some plays where he got beat, so that's the game. You can't get concerned with the name."

Warmack's... shown plenty of potential along Tennessee's rebuilt line -- and we're not asking him to bow down -- but Watt might be the finest player he faces all year.

JJ Watt ...... JAG!

For the game, PFF has Warmack giving up 2 sacks and 3 QB hurries with a pass block ranking of 63rd out of 65 Guards (>25% of team offensive snaps.)

Sounds like the beginnings of an inter-divisional rivalry. They'll be facing A LOT of each other over the next few seasons.

Ya know, when Watt gets tackled every other play like he's carrying the ball he doesn't domminate like usual.

Isn't that the same thing Leroy Harris said after giving up 2 sacks to Watt last season? The same Leroy Harris who was replaced by Chance Warmack?

You don't talk when you put 2 sacks & 3 hurries on tape. Especially as a guard.

Warmack = this guy...

What did he say that was out of line? He actually complimented him. Is he supposed to say he's super human? We have a sensitive group of fans sometimes.

What else can he say after the Titans invested their first round pick on him this year ? He couldn't be honest and say he got his azz kicked Sunday, so his comments are what would be expected.

"Yeah, his reputation is well deserved. It's hard to get prepared for that combination of speed, power, & determination without experiencing it first hand. So we got that out of the way & I'll see him in Nashville. Then we'll see what's what."

Why would some rookie with only two games of experience assume he knows who's a star and who's just a guy? I'm hoping someone scripted this for him.

That headline is very very misleading and what Warmack said is not nearly as stupid as the crap LeRoy Harris put out there last year.

I have no problem with anything he said. That's how he's supposed to feel.

Truth be told, I really ain't mad at him either. He gave Watt his due without being all gushy about it.

Dude is an opponent, not a Texans fan.

Exactly. The guy has to believe he can stop anyone on every play.

Believing something and spewing nonsense are two different things.

I believe I can fly. Gravity will prove me wrong.

JJ is this guy's gravity.

That being said, glad to have something for JJ to chew on until they meet again.

It's a Titans thing. Get owned, lose, call J.J. Watt nothing special. Expect it at least once a season.

Yep, pretty much nailed it.

I guess Peyton Manning is just another football player, too. He puts his helmet on that big ol' head just like everyone else. yeah, logic fail.

Titans center Rob Turner was fined by the NFL for his peel-back block on Texans defensive lineman J.J. Watt last Sunday, and while he doesn’t like it, he understands.

What was a legal block a year ago is now illegal.

“I’ve been taught to cut on screen (plays) ever since I was a kid,” Turner said. “It was a rule change this year and it was something I didn’t think about, I just reacted.”

Turner declined to reveal the total of the fine except to say “it wasn’t exorbitant.” He said he doesn’t think he’s a dirty player.

“I am a hard-nosed guy and that gets misconstrued sometimes,” Turner said. “I know J.J. was saying all sorts of stuff to the media down there about him (telling me he has) a family to feed and stuff like that, but all that wasn’t true and he’s full of it for saying it. That was a lie about him talking to me.”

Watt, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, had two sacks against the Titans. He unloaded on Turner after the game and said the peel-back block was “absolutely” dirty.

“I’m not trying to get my knee blown out. That’s why there’s a rule in place,” Watt said. “And it was clearly blatant.”

Turner was flagged for a personal foul.

“Whether you call it an apology or whether you call it a professional courtesy, I was trying to say, ‘Hey I wasn’t going after you like that, and you can see that on film,’ ” Turner said. “And it bothered me he made a big stink about it.

“For the record, he wouldn’t even look at me, and I don’t have a problem if you put that in print. In fact, I’d encourage you to put that in print and he’s full of it by saying that.”

I don't see a whole lot of difference between Turner & Pollard.

"That's football." is not a good excuse. The game is changing & the players have got to change. Taking out the peel back doesn't make the game less violent. There's still a dozen different ways Turner can put a block on Watt to take him out of a play without taking him out of the game.

Same with Pollard. At least half a dozen different ways Pollard could have hit Aj without hitting him in the head. Heck, if he "timed it just right" he could have hit him in the head & it would have been perfectly legal. If he got there on time, he could have challenged Aj for the ball.
