I didn't go to the game yesterday, because I decided to go to work. My wife & oldest went & thoroughly enjoyed the game. My wife is a Schaub hater, but she stayed to the very end. She thought about leaving when the exodus started, but something told her to stay.

I've never left early because I thought it was a lost cause. I've left because I had scheduling conflicts, or I really don't like late games & have to drive back home....

I'm not judging those guys who "gave up" & left early, or the guys who were "disgusted" with what they saw, or "expect/demand" better from our Houston Texans.

I understand.

My question, do you think it had an impact on the team & made them dig deep... that the exodus is the reason we won?

Do you think they noticed?

Do you think the fans who stayed made them dig deep & play harder?

I haven't heard any of the players/coaches address it. None of the reporters asked the question.
 
During the game I doubt they care, but after the game I am sure they appreciate those who stay and don't give up on them.

yeah, as much as I love the atmosphere at Reliant, it's not like its Seattle's 12th man.

Reliant has always had a number of fairweather fans who clear out fairly early. I do not think it speaks about Texans Nation as a whole, but rather about a select group of front runners that can afford those seats.

I know the Texans has plenty of fans that would have stayed until the game is officially over. Unfortunately, many of those fans simply cannot afford to go.
 
There was a douche in my section screaming Schaub sucks the whole game and saying we will never win because Kubiak won't start Case Keenum.
 
Personally, I think the fans' morale is at an all-time high, coinciding with the players.

I'm always among the last to leave any sporting event if it was up to me; I find it to be better for all involved, win or lose.

The support of the whole fan base, whether they are at the game or not, is huge to the whole organization, players and coaches included.

IMHO, the support legitimates the criticism, when and if the time comes.
It's win-win.
 
When I was a season ticket holder, I left one game early (the 1000 degree game vs. Pittsburgh) and missed one game because I was sick as a dog. Even when I knew there was no coming back, I stayed to the bitter end. Only left the Pittsburgh game with about 5 mins left because I was the only sucker left in my section and had a sunburn that ended up peeling twice.

As a fan of the Texans that wants Keenum to get a legitimate chance in due time, I hate this type of fan. They make it harder for the sane fans of Keenum. My wife is a Schaub hater as well, because of some comment he made a few years back. He's dead to her, LOL.

We usually dodge out early win or lose. I don't consider myself any less of a fan. We usually catch the end in the parking lot walking out. Getting out of that place is a hassle and we have a bit of a drive.


People need better things to complain about, and if the players care that much they shouldn't let things get bad in the first place.
 
If the team is not motivated enough to win until fans start leaving, shame on them. As a player, you definitely notice though. But that shouldn't be your "ah ha" moment where you realize there's a game going on.

Also, I don't have any issue with fans leaving early. I won't call them fair weather or anything. It's really a non issue. It's just something people do like using a forks to eat rice instead of a spoon. Who cares. You don't get any award for sitting a watching the whole game when the team has been playing poorly and you don't get blisters on your tongue for leaving early. I don't think either is worse than the other.

My mom is the same way, but with both Schaub and Kubiak.

They could win the Super Bowl and it would be in spite of them in her mind.

And her perspective is not really based on cold, hard facts, but rather based on a "gut feeling". In her words, she was a lifelong Oilers fan and saw enough choking and ineptitude that she believes that she can see it from a mile away. And for whatever reason(s), she thinks she sees it in Schaub and Kubiak.

I love her, but she refuses to drink the koolaide!! :texflag:

I agree and if its meant for Case to get his chance he will one day. It gets really old listening to everyone screaming for the backup QB every time the Texans have a bad possession.

This is the reason I quit going to games a few years ago (well, the $ too). I know I used to be a fault a bit too by allowing them to get to me. It just seemed like every game there was one of these asswipes yelling and acting a fool. Especially ignorant things like the above.

I'm now a happy camper sitting in my recliner watching on my TV. Plus, I can go to Church in the mornin
 
Fans pay and can leave anytime they wish. Does it look bad, yes. It looks bad when a game starts and the stadium is half empty, and looks bad when it is just as empty before the third quarter ends.

There is a fan in my section that is always early, who calls every play before it happens, and if the team try another play, he's pissed. When the team falls behind by more than a touchdown in the fourth quater, he leaves in a huff. As he was leaving with his wife yesterday I asked them to stay and I expected a comeback. Even though I've known them since the beginning, he looked at me as to say yeah, right and left. He has done that on many occasions and at the next game said that he regretted leaving. However, when things appear bad, his temper can't handle it.

I recall one game that the Texans were trying to make a comeback and the stadium was so empty, those remaining were banging on the empty chairs to produce fan noise.

It is obvious to the team when people are leaving in great numbers in the same way if you were giving a speech and have the room walks out while you're still talking. A few, yes, because emergencies do occur, but by the thousands. I sit near the Texans tunnel, and if fans aren't happy they do get an ear full.

I am glad that the Texans are doing well enough that they no longer use the bull horn to encourage people to come in at game time.

In 520 we had a couple dummies yelling T.J.! back and forth. Them some dummy in next section starts with Keenum! then they argued and yelled back and forth. All this while we were winning early on.
 
I was listening to the game on Sirius and enjoyed the nice little shout out to the fans listening in their car because they left early. Something along the lines of "How ya feeling about leaving your seat to listen to us?" :)

People who leave early aren't football fans...they are "event" fans only there for the party.

As for the players, they're probably glad those fans left as they are the same ones who scream and try to do the wave when the team is on offense.
 
I rarely ever go to football games because of the price. But when I do go to a game, I stay all the way until the end because I don't get to go often. I hate missing any part of the game, from the kick-off to the victory formation.

Hell, he's not even the back up QB! He's the third stringer that is a classic Kubiak pet project. I'd be as happy as anyone else if Kennum's time comes and he capitalizes on it and has a HOF career. I'm not going to hold my breath until I pass out though because of the uncertainty of the NFL, especially the life of an NFL backup QB. Ask Heisman Trophy winner Jesusbow. He was a backup that got to play under the lights and now he's...?

Just sayin'.

I would like to remind all those nay sayers to be careful what you ask for. I also was a season ticket owner with the Oilers and Texans until I moved to Dallas two years ago. The back up always looks great in pre-season, Remember the helecopter, remember Grankowski, remember Nielson and there have been several before and since that could not complete 50% of their passes when it came their time..

I remember having to sit in my seats and listen to all the Longhorn fans chant about Vince Young. Boy am I glad that didn't happen. This season it will be Keenum and TJ and next year it will be why didn't we draft Manziel. It is easy to second guess when you are sitting at home, in your car, or in the stands...

I personally think Matt Schaub has improved this year and it is not his fault a rookie reciever did not run his route or dropped passes. The only thing I consistantly see with Schaub is he throws behind his reciever too often.

As far as Kubiak, He is a proven winner. He is conservative for a reason. That is the offense we run, a balanced attack with run and play action short passes. Remember the previous coach we had and how he and the GM were supposd to the best in football??? Remember how great Davis Carr was suposed to be???

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ASK FOR, YOU MAY GET IT...

you mean the game against the colts or titans like 5 or 6 years ago where we even recovered an onside kick and messed it up at the end, came back from like 30 down ? I think i tried to hide that one way back cause it was such a heart breaker.

I've got season tickets in section 608. I'm in the nose-bleeds, but I'm on the 50 yard line. I love my seats. They're $71 face value.
 
I was there and didn't notice the fans leaving because I was too into the game. I doubt the players gave it a single thought as well. All I know is that is was still pretty freaking loud 'til the end where I was.

I have found that at games where tons of folks leave and then the Texans start a comeback it is amazingly loud. It is like everyone who stays is making up for those who left. The comeback that didn't happen against Baltimore was fierce.

That Titans game a few years ago where the Texans made the huge comeback with Sage, then lost it when Dunta couldn't make the play, the stadium was about 2/3 empty and during the comeback it was the loudest I've ever heard the place. Of course everyone was banging on the back of empty chairs with beer cans and such.

I like to change it up and scream for the back up QB when we are doing good! Really throws people off...

Same here. I don't get to go to football games very often, with price being one factor but timing a bigger one. For example, I've never been to a pro football game, other than a Cowboys preseason game about 25 years ago. I will be going to the A&M game this weekend, though, after paying what seems like a crazy amount of money to me for nosebleed seats. It's hard for me to imagine getting a chance to go to an NFL game where I care about the team and not staying until the end!

Out of curiosity: for those who leave the game early, do you also quit watching on TV if the game is a blowout or just looks bad? I almost never do that, either. However, I've usually had to record it, so I often end up watching the painful endings in fast forward!

That would be me.

There have been occasions when I have lost interest in poorly played games. When it gets to the point that I actually begin getting upset with what is going on I will realize how dumb that is and turn the thing off and go water the grass or sweep the patio. I lived and died with the Oilers and I will not fall into that trap again. Life is too short to let a game inflate your blood pressure. Why watch if you are not enjoying the experience?

Just the way I am.

So would this also mean that the reason they came back against the Chargers is because they could sense all the Houstonians turning off their TV's and going to bed?
 
Heck,

The stadium wasn't that empty, a couple of years ago the fans would have been pouring out after that horrible pick 6 by Matt. That was a pick 6 into double coverage where the receiver seemed to have made the right read.
 
Hell, when I get a chance to go to the game, I stay until the clock reads all zeros. It's a luxury I can rarely afford, so I take full advantage of it. Even if I had tickets to every game for the rest of my life I would stay until the end.
