Holding Watt

I hope one of our film guys can post a pic, but you all know the plays I'm talking about. He does an arm over and gets past the guard in the blink of an eye. But the guard still has his arm around Watt's waist and is pulling on him. That's holding, right? They never call it, but I know damn well it ought to be.

I think you could probably call holding somewhere on every play, but JJ Watt got tackled on a lot of plays. I'm glad they called the crack back block, that was really egregious.

JJ played really well. I am amazed at how often he is in the backfield like he is unblocked when in fact he does a swim move past 1 (or 2) defenders. :swatter:

Watt is basically held just about every play. I think this is consistent with the bull**** they allow to be done to every great player on defense. It's just the way they want to call it. Sucks though.

I think they probably could as well, but probably not on the same damn guy 90% of the time, which is what pisses me off about this. And I know they're just not calling it because they would have to do it every time. It's like the NBA refusing to call the same game for big men that they do for guards.

Yeah, NFL officiating has something in common with NBA officiating. Awesome.

Yeah it's no doubt frustrating. I wish they would be more consistent with the calls. This is the Yao phenomenon all over again....

I saw several plays by Womack where Womack had his right hand gripping Watt's jersey and his right arm across his throat. Soundly beaten but no call on the hold.

All in all, I don't think it was a well called game today. I don't care how a crew calls a game as long as they are consistent on both sides of the ball and for both teams. Be ticky tacky or let 'em play, just be consistent.

HAHA yeah i see this on every play where Watt initially beats his man, saw it a lot in the SD game and a lot more here. Kinda BS that it is never called and the oline gets away with it on every snap.

I'm glad they did too but it's not enough anymore.

If Watt's leg had been more firmly planted to the ground on that, that's it. Goodbye Watt for the rest of the year.

They want to talk about player safety, there needs to be heavy fines and ejections for that ****.

Its QB league and if they did call holding on JJ the O-Linemen would eventually let him through and we would have a dead QB or seriously hurt on our hands. Eventually it would happen. JJ is that awesome.

BountyGate 2.0? I know I'm not the only one wondering...:overreact:

They started holding Watt in the preseason and every team can see that the officials aren't calling jack...so they hold more, then the next team views the tape, and then holds more, and so on. It's pretty blatant. I don't mind some holding because let's face it....offensive linemen hold. It's the arms around the neck when Watt is clearly past his defender stuff that is diseasing my mind.

Yes. That is really the only thing that is making me hate the NFL right now. I really fear when they start officiating like the NBA. I actually want to contact the NFL about it. It is so blatant.

Womack and company may have broken a record yesterday. I re-watched it last night and they got away with a ton. There were a few times when he beat them and they just flat out tackled him.

I'd hope we're sending cut-ups of these to the league on a weekly basis

it's not the holding that's bothering me so much as the blatant tackling of watt. watt's arm-over that he had so much success with is still beating defenders, now they just decide to wrap his legs up and take him to the ground.

They already have , hell they have invented rules specifically to protect "star" players.

This! I couldn't beleive they wouldn't call it. He was getting tackled not held.
