He had a twelve year career. I personally believe he had a higher ceiling than any of his teams got to see.

Here's an excerpt from his lengthy farewell on his Facebook page:

I always knew the day would come. I just didn’t think I’d be 35 when it finally happened. I will soon be turning in my paperwork to the NFL and formally retiring after a 12 year career. Like most NFL players, I wish I could have played a couple more seasons, but usually the league is done with you before you are done with it.

All jokes aside, Sage seemed well-respected by his teammates and his career was nothing to scoff at. I wish him luck in his future endeavors.
 
Honestly, I felt like when Carr was cut Sage should have been given a crack at the starting gig. I thought he was good enough for that role. I wanted us to draft a young QB and let Kubiak develop him behind Sage...

But I'm good with Matt....Just saying all that to say I agree that Sage might have been a bit underrated IMO.
 
i think he was cast pretty much as he should've been....a tweener. Not quite a starting qb but a really really good back up.

I too thought that this should have happened. And that one play should have defined him just as much for guts and heart as it did for failure and ridicule.

Wow...... I feel exactly the same way. & those guys going on about Rosencopter seem to be butthurt little boys.

As much as I love this thing (the copter), I agree. Plus, looking back on it now, that game was in Reliant and it's more bothersome that we've never won in Indy.

Bad as Carr turned out, Rosenfels should have been our starting QB at least at some point.
 
Thanks for everything Sage, you did your best and I'm sure you saved some $$$$ from your 12 yrs in the league. Great guy,

Unfortunate Rosencopter incident, but you have to like the way he went for it trying to win the game. (Respect) Sometimes things dont work out, but most of your critics have never experienced what it's like to go all in at anything they've done in their lives.

Let alone experienced failure, the greater the risk, the greater the reward. The bright side is that you were rewarded with 12 yrs in the NFL, my hats off to you sir.

This comes from a former Schaub guy.

The one thing I'll never forget about that day? I skipped church to watch the game. I was going to church every week that year and I skipped service to watch the Colts/Texans game. Yes, I partly blame myself for the Rosencopter.
 
yall forget on the colts game for 3 and a half quarters sage was Lightin da colts D UP

I think its obvs that Sage was always better then David car

and man he was obvs better then brett farve in his 2nd year for the vikes

Yeah, but it would have been kind of hard for Sage to replace Favre in his second year with the Vikes considering he'd been traded to the Giants before that season started.

Agreed. Sage was trying to step on the throat of the Colts, he didn't turtle up. You'd think more people would respect that. Especially the way the criticism of Kubiak & Schaub have been lately.

I wish Sage nothing but the best of luck going forward with his life after NFL. :)

There was a time in the past I was arguing for Sage to be our starter over Carr. And I also argued we should have never traded for Schaub, we should have kept those draft picks, played Sage for a year or two, and drafted a QB.

Aw, the good ole days. LOL

I was right there with you. After watching Schaub play for a couple of years, compared to the QBs that came out in 2007, I'm ok with the way things went.

Jamarcus Russell, Brady Quin, Kevin Kolb, John Beck, Drew Stanton, Trent Edwards, Jeff Rowe, Troy Smith, Jordan Palmer, Tyler Thigpen....
 
Sage Rosenfels was better than Carr no doubt, but that dude was frustrating as hell to watch with his very very very poorly timed INTs and fumbles.

I think that is to be expected from anyone who gets to play that much for the first time in the NFL. I know he was a 4 year vet, but he didn't have a lot of snaps.

He gave us a chance to win, up to that point, we didn't have that too often.
