West Coast Offense???

don't anyone think we could fit better in a west coast offense by the way we have our talent in our skill position. Hopefully next year we get a coach that will input the west coast since its more of being accurate and timing instead of those crazy *** 7 step drops that doesnt work with our offensive line.

This is just my 2cents i want to know what everyone else thinks about this. I think carr would be better like this and use his mobility in this.

I think we fit better in Kubiaks running and playaction scheme. Every offense has an element of the west coast offense. Our team is built for the run and middle penetration on the pass. Our best receiver is a large guy who should run alot of plays through the middle and our best pass recievers are not very fast. I think we are set more for the run first pro-set offense.

You need an extremely accurate QB to run a WCO. We don't have the personnel.

The problem with the offense isn't that we need to run a WCO. It's that we need to block. Block so DD can run. Block so that Carr has time to throw. We can't do either. Switching to a WCO isn't going to make anything better if we can't block.

I really feel like the Texans want to be a run-oriented team. We just can't block, and ergo we can't run as well as we might be able to.

No matter what offensive scheme the Texans run .... The production will not increase until the blocking improves by leaps and bounds :texflag:

A sensible post, YaaaY! It doesn't matter if you have Reggie Bush, LT, Peyton Manning or Tony Gonzalez behind this line, unless everyone is doing the job that other teams do well (ie: Panthers, Colts, Bengals and Broncos), we will be in this position for the next 3 drafts :crying:

We don't use the TE and FB effective enough to even resemble a West Coast offense. We have absolutely 0 effectiveness with the element of surprise. We need a system that catches the defense off guard and allows our offense to dictate what it needs to do, not what the defense gives us. We are way too meek

So, the falcons use it, and last ive seen, vick is even more inaccurate than carr, so think before ya post

We don't run the WCO. Kind of looks like it, but not it. Just mostly a casterated offense.

What type of QB is needed for the WCO? Please no names, looking for things a scout would look for in a prospect.

Fast decision maker, accurate, general on the field, NEVER-EVER-QUIT, probably calls his own plays more than most

strong arm not necessary

David Carr:

Has strong arm
accurate?
slow decision maker
not allowed to call ****

1. Ability to see the field and quickly read checkdowns would be neccessary.
2. An accurate arm, and enough arm power to make most of the throws, or the forsight to make the play before
3. Ability to create time within the pocket
4. Decent Analytical mind able to audible and understands the intracies of the offense and defenses

You mean audibling to a run off-tackle left 100% of the time doesn't get the job done?

Who knows what Carr can or can't run? I wish it wouldn't hurt so much to bring him back for one more season just to see what he could do with a new coaching staff.

Vick isn't the greatest example to cite of a successful WCO. He's similar to Carr (faster and stronger arm but less accurate and maybe marginally more awareness). We just need more aggressive scheming on offense. We are losing out not throwing long balls to AJ and now Mathis.

Put that thinking cap back on yourself first before you point the finger at me. Mora's WCO is completely different from a traditional WCO. It's tailor-made to fit a guy like Vick, and really only barely resembles a normal WCO.

AND, Vick just came off a four or five game streak where he had a QB rating of over 100 anyway, so what's that about him being more inaccurate than Carr?

The only point I was trying to make earlier is that changing the system isn't the solution to the problem we have. Better blocking is the solution.

We have never had a TE we could realy Utilize in a west coast system to implement it.

What we need is to drop the WR option routes and developa passing attack based on timing routes I think we have too much adlib at the receivver position making it harder to progress through the reads. Carr can be extremely accurate but I think he gets to excited and overshoots the target he needs to settle down a bit when he does have time.

We are so trading our #1 to Arizona so we can get some lineman and big play TE in this offense.. Even with the offense we have now it was only successful under capers in carolina when he had a TE named Wesley Walls. We have no threats besides DD and AJ, That leaves the rest 1 on 1 and all others come after the QB... we need a #2 with hands, and a TE that can catch the ball in the middle of the field.

What we need is to really simplify what the skill players do in this offense and do more disguiseing in the formations than in the execution.

Even if we get a new coach it will only set us back another 3 years... A coach cannot Come into this franchise and produce success in the first year. Its just not possible... We have no depth, We have talent but we have no way of mastering a new offensive playbook in 1 offseason.
