Wade Phillips: Brooks Reed had offseason surgery, Darryl Sharpton still recovering from hip injury

Texans linebacker Brooks Reed had an offseason operation to address an injury suffered during the season, defensive coordinator Wade Phillips said during a radio appearance on 610 AM on Thursday.

Phillips did not indicate the surgery would be a problem for Reed heading into the Texans’ organized team activities, which begin May 20.
He addressed Reed when asked about his level of concern over safety Ed Reed, who had arthroscopic hip surgery recently.

“I’m concerned like I am with anybody that’s coming off an injury, is coming off an operation,” Phillips said. “I believe in our people and they say, hey, he’s going to be fine, (Brian) Cushing’s going to be fine. Even Brooks Reed had an injury last year and was operated (on) in the offseason. You’re always concerned about it. I don’t want to blow it up to say I don’t think they will be back because I think they will.”

Brooks Reed missed four games late last season with a torn groin.

The Texans withholding injury info even during the offseason?

Why would they do this ? Could it be that the Texans team Docs screwed up by letting Brooks Reed come back from his groin injury sooner than they should have? Like CND mentioned in an earlier thread?

I've got no faith in anything the Texans team Docs say anymore. Especially after the yrs of player medical mismanagement. In fact I was for signing Ed Reed, but after the Texans team docs gave him his physical and cleared the FA signing, then he had to have surgery, it makes me wonder what the heck is going on over on Kirby.

Now I would've passed on signing Reed. What are the odds of drafting Swearinger was due to the Texans docs screwing up Ed Reed's physical?

According to Reed, the four linebacker positions for the Texans aren’t very different and the transition for him to move inside wouldn’t be a difficult one. If he does move inside, he said it would probably be for first and second down. He'd then likely move outside for third down because Brian Cushing in the Texans’ three-down inside linebacker.

“But then again,” Reed said, “it really all depends on what these younger guys can do, if they can play SAM or outside ‘backer. We’ll see.”

Ummmm....

Brooks....if you move inside for first and second down and the rookies are handling the edge and getting good pressure, you're not going to replace them on passing downs.

You don't even realize you're maybe about to become a two down player.

Reed was taken care of by Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia. For those who may not be familiar with the name, Meyers was Mario's surgeon. He is a nationally renowned athletic pubalgia ("sports hernia" which is essentially an entity that includes as one of its components adductor muscle tear/chronic inflammation) expert. With a successful surgery (and this is a surgery with very high success rates) without setbacks, he will have certainly been able to rehab over a period of 8-12 weeks. With his surgery having been performed the end of January, he can realistically be expected to be able to knock off the rust during OTA's and TC, and be good to go when he is needed this season.:tiphat:

They would probably slide watt to the nose and reed would play DE. That is assuming mercilus makes a big jump in year 2. Barwin lacked a pass rush last year but he contained the run well on outside.

I'm assuming you mean Reed here?

That said, that doesn't help in definite passing situations.
