Now it can be told: The second draft choice San Francisco will receive from the Smith deal will be K.C.'s second-rounder in 2014 if the Chiefs go 8-8 or better this season. It will be a third-rounder in 2014 if Kansas City is under .500 this season.

I want to say that no matter what happens whether it's a 3rd or a 2nd rounder:

Jesus Christ Andy Reid what the **** are you doing?

Seems like Reid believes in Smith.

Smith has accomplished more than Schaub. How much did Gary give up to get Schaub?

Two 2nds and a change in draft spots in the 1st rd. This makes the price Reid paid for Schaub seem about right. Or is it OK when the Texans make a trade like this, but when a team like the Chiefs make a trade like the Smith trade they're somehow stupid?

So using records from this year, it could be as high as pick #48, and as low as pick #80.

2014 2nd/3rd for a much better QB than what was available in the draft, translates to a 2013 3rd/4th. Good move, imo.

Other than a random chance to slag Schaub, how about looking at the circumstances. Smith was going to be cut or be paid a gigantic salary to ride the pine. The Niners had no leverage. Schaub was dirt cheap playing on a rookie contract and Atlanta had already received multiple offers for him. Kind of a different situation.

PS - there isn't a good argument Smith has accomplished more than Schaub.

How has Alex accomplished more than Matt?

2× Pro Bowl (2009, 2012)
4× AFC Offensive Player of the Week
Pro Bowl MVP (2009)
NFL Passing yards Leader (2009)

Alex Smith
TD–INT 81–63
Passing yards 14,280
QB Rating 79.1

NFC Offensive Player of the Week (Week 8, 2012)

By making the trade Reid assured that the Chiefs would get a QB (Smith) who lead his team to a NFC championship game just 2 yrs ago. Smith also lead the 49ers in the last 2 mins to a comeback win over the Saints to reach that game. The 49ers were just a couple of ST micues from making the SB that yr.

If Smith had become a FA he could've signed with any team. This assured that Smith would be a Chief for the next few yrs.

BTW, when has Schaub accomplished anything near what I stated above about Smith? You might want to remove those rose colored glasses and take another sip of that battle red kool-aid.

I didn't criticize the trade. I commented on your blind hatred for Schaub.

LOL - yeah, says you. Apparently any team doesn't include the one he led to an NFL championship game.

They have the same playoff record. 1-1. Other than that Schaub has Smith beaten across the board as Blake has listed.

I thought Smith's playoff record was 3-1? They got to the championship game last year on won both their games this year.

So 3-1 and a Superbowl appearance is accomplishing more than Shaub IMO.

Kaepernick was the QB in the 2012 playoffs and SB.

{///Quote} I used to be a Schaub guy, I still like him alot, I've got no hatred for Schaub let alone blind hatred. I just dont think Schaub is the guy to lead his team to a SB.

{///Quote} No, $$$$$ came into play and the opportunity to turn Smith into a high 2nd rd pick. But you know this and are just being argumentative.

{///Qoute} Give me the 1-1 that includes a confrence championship and was only a couple of fumbled PR's from a SB. Over a guy who got his team just as far in the playoffs as a rookie 3rd string QB did the yr before. Despite Schaub playing with a healthy AJ and the DPOY (Watt).

Carry on with your blind fandom, I'm sure I wont be changing your mind.

The only thing I will say that is different between the Smith and Schaub trade is that Schaub was an untapped young potential filled QB. Smith may be untapped, but tomorrow will be 29. Schaub was 25.

With that logic one might say give me Yates with a 1-1 record that was a couple of special team fumbles from the AFC Championship.

lol, look at the terms of the trade..if they're 8-8 or better its a 2nd if they're worse, its a 3rd...must not believe in him too much ...

Tell more about Schaub's comeback playoff wins, or the confrence championship games he's played in?

Or maybe, just maybe, Gary overpaid for Schaub?

Not that I blame Gary for overpaying after having to watch HWNSNBM for yrs.

LOL. So I guess HWNSNBM is a SuperBowl winning QB. Seesh.

Yeah Alex Smith is Matt Schaub, where do you even come up with this **** steelb? Alex Smith was such a bad QB that 49'er fans wanted David Carr during a Thursday night home game. Everybody seems to forget Alex Smiths first 5 years of pro football when talking about him today.

Lol, c'mon SB, What does Gary's acquisition of Schaub really have to do with Reid's acquisition of Smith beyond the ridiculous imaginary parallel you've come up with? Especially when 1 happened 5 years prior to the other and each of the players were in 2 different situations.

Stop it man, you're just reaching.
