Bryan Braman

So is he for sure starting as one of our olbs? If so I'm glad he finally gets a chance to show what he is made of. Guy was a beast on special teams with such high energy, imagine that energy as a starter now...

been around for a while now, you'd think he'd get playing time if he was any good.

especially when last year barwin was terrrrible

Braman just got pushed back even further with the rookies we drafted.

Now he is a guy I'd like to see get a shot at ilb.

He's still just going to be a Special Teams player. With the rookies coming in, I wouldn't be too surprised if Braman doesn't make the final 53.

If he deserves his own thread, we should at least spell his name correctly.

I think the guy's got talent. If he can put on some muscle this offseason, I think he can earn some playing time. Not to mention, he's one of the best special teamers the Texans have.

I thought we signed a new UDFA with a different spelling of his name, like when we ha a certain Kicker and RB duo with the same name.............

He just need a chance, I have a feeling if another team were to scoop him up he would pull a Jacoby or Holliday and beast on that other team.

There is basically a 0% chance he starts.

I don't know about that. I think he has a solid shot to become a heavy defensive contributor... I could certainly see him being on the field on passing downs... I don't know whether he could show the discipline and strength at the point of attack to beat out any of Reed, Mercilus, Montgomery to be on the field in base defense.... But, if Reed does kick inside, I think he could become the 3rd OLB- possibly replacing Montgomery on passing downs.

Well you should know about it because everything you just described is non-starter. He didn't ask and I didn't answer about contributor.

I think he sticks as a ST guy. But I don't expect to see him on the field much otherwise... unless there's like... a problem. Not with the picks we made.

We prefer a 3 player OLB rotation and unless Mercilus/Montgomery/Williams doesn't produce, that's the new rotation. UNLESS they keep Reed out there. (I expect Reed to kick inside. And we might see Braman kick inside, too.)

So if he did start it would be inside? I would trust Reed in there before Brahman. You guys don't think he can play on the outside? I feel like opposing OTs would hate the guy.

I would bet there isn't a sure fire starter @ OLB on this team yet. Sure, we'd like to think Mercilus will start, but remember what you saw. There wasn't a whole lot there that screamed starter. Neither Brooks or Barwin were as productive as we'd have wished & Merci still couldn't get the starting job.

Montgomery may prove in camp that he deserves to start. We may sign a vet whose an instant starter (I don't know that there's one out there) & Merci is back to specialist.

I like this guy as well, however I don't agree with the, "he just needs a chance" He had a chance. I love his attitude, but I hope we can find 5 guys who will play better than he did last season. (I'd love it if he were one of the 5). We need 5 guys who can play better than Merci & Brooks did last year.

I have ZERO preference as to who starts. Want the best 11 on the field.
Braman is a 100% GO GO GO type guy. Size and speed don't seem to be an issue, he seems to lacking between the ears.

I think it's basically this unless something changes in his play on a dramatic level. If the coaches were pleased with what they saw out of him in practices, etc. at the OLB position then they wouldn't have just grabbed two more OLB's in the draft. Kind of tells you a bit of the mindset of what they have at the position currently. Playing special teams where you can run all out, energy 110% and just let natural ability lead the way is a heck of a lot different then playing on defense. A lot of great special team players don't do much when actually on defense so doesn't always translate.

But as PapaL said...all that matters in the end is we have the best out there. Don't care who it is.

This is year 3 for Braman. If his biggest contribution is still on special teams, it's time to move on.

That is not at all true. There are only so many snaps to go around on D. Having an elite ST guy or two can really make a good team a great team.

I'd hate to see Braman gone .... they let Alan Ball walk and he was arguably their best ST player (Between he and Braman). Letting go both the #1 & 2 ST players (possibly losing Dobbins and Carmichael too , who are easily #'s 3&4) .... Im getting a little Ill!

Those coverage units suck like a cheap whore on nickel night .... We've seen that when Bullock doesn't boot them out of the endzone.

Those coverage units may cost this team a W or two .... no matter how good the kicker & punter are.

That's what I am saying... I would be content if Braman played 10 years here, and never got more than the occasional snap on D, so long as he keeps up his ST play.

If they cut Braman , he will not be unemployed long .

Unless we keep 11 LB's, it should come down to choosing between Tuggle and Braman. Unless someone is placed on IR; and listening to Kubiak talking about how some of these players have missed so much of training camp, I can't see him stashing one on IR and setting his progress back even further. Tuggle can go to the PS, which is the likely scenario.

Kubiak is spelled with a K at the end .... if you did that to be funny , its not funny.
