Texans Draft Day 3 Targets

Mari-OWNED!

Bucco Bruce
Who would you like to see the Texans go after in rounds 4-7? Here's my list...

Matt Barkley: QB, USC
-At this point I think he's definitely worth a look here even if he is pretty much a Matt Schaub clone. I just don't see how Colt McCoy is a 3rd round pick and Barkley isn't. He's much more talented than McCoy IMO. (Dysert, Bray, Scott, and Renfree are also intriguing QB prospects)

Quinton Patton: WR, Louisiana Tech
-Been high on this guy, and I still am. I believe the Texans will leave this draft with two WRs and Patton would be my personal choice. Great hands, high character guy. Schaub would deem him "Texans worthy."

Marvin Burdette: ILB, UAB
-Texans have been doing their due diligence with this kid, and I feel like they like what they see. Maybe ILB wasn't as big of a need as us fans thought it was.

Sanders Commings: CB/S, Georgia
-Reminds me a lot of Glover Quin. Could be a versatile chess piece/role-player in Wade's defense.

Cierre Wood: RB, Notre Dame
-Good fit for ZBS and solid depth behind Foster and Tate. Lots of good RBs to be had later in this draft. (Ellington, Gillislee, Franklin, Barner, Stacy, etc.)

Jesse Williams: NT, Alabama
-Not sure if they're sold on Earl Mitchell or what, but I think they should at least look at depth at NT. Maybe Crick may play inside, who knows?

There's plenty more on my mind, but I'd like to see who you guys would like to see in a Texans uniform.

If I am the Texans, I am concentrating on front 7 depth. We need to get some guys in the middle that can help endure the long season and improve our run stopping. I expect two or more NT/DEs, an ILB or two, and maybe even another OLB.

AJ Klien
Jesse Williams
Da'Rick Rogers
Ryan Swope
Reid Fragel
Khaseem Greene
Chase Thomas

I love Greene, but I am starting to think that the Texans and other teams may view Greene as a limited player. There are some questions about his size and ability to play inside in a 3-4, a 4-3, and even in some outside linebacker positions in the 4-3. He runs 4.7, so perhaps teams don't feel he is fast enough to justify the lack of size? He was supposed to be a late second round pick, if I am not mistaken.

Do you really think they will take another OT prospect? I mean they already drafted Brennan Williams, and they've got solid depth with Newton, Harris, and Gardner.

Although you did remind me to add some possible Guard prospects.

Brian Schwenke, Cal
David Quessenberry, San Jose State

I like the rest of your list, but I have my doubts Da'Rick is even in the Texans draft plans due to his character concerns.

In no particular order...

Khaseem Greene, OLB, Rutgers
Chase Thomas, OLB, Stanford
AJ Klein, ILB
Sean Porter, OLB, TAMU
Alex Okafor, OLB, Texas
William Gholston, OLB/DE, Michigan State
Jesse Williams, DT, Alabama
Akeem Spence, DT, Illinois
Montori Hughes, DT, Tennessee-Martin
Everett Dawkins, DT, Florida State
Da'Rick Rogers, WR, Tennessee Tec
Ryan Swope,WR, TAMU
Ryan Otten, TE, San Jose St.
Ryan Griffin, TE, Connecticut
Joseph Randle, RB, Oklahoma St.
Marcus Lattimore, RB, South Carolina

What are your thoughts on Everett Dawkins?

I think he would be a good DE prospect for us in the 5th round or later. No red flags. Started out as a DE, moved to DT due to need. He's nothing special, but he has always worked hard and was regarded as a leader by the head coach. I think he could make it in the NFL as depth playing as a 3-4 end or a DT in some 4-3 schemes.

If Klein is there, we HAVE to take him. It will provide a good replacement for Dobbins once he leaves. Doesn't he only have a one year deal?

Wouldn't mind trying our hand at DT, or TE in the 5th.

If Lattimore is there when we pick in the 6th, I wouldn't be opposed to taking him. He would be good behind Tate and Foster.

4th

Swope
Patton
Lattimore
Spence
Williams

I think there is a lot of value in the later rounds (5, 6 and 7) at the position of DE (Maclicah Goodman), ILB (Sean Porter/Chase Thomas), and TE (Reed, Stoneburner, etc.) and RBs (Dennis Johnson, Kenjon Barner) but I don't see any DTs I an particularly high on, or WRs after the fourth.

Ryan Swope
Darick Rogers
Kasheem Greene
Kenjon barner
Johnny Adams
Sean porter
Zac desert
Lawrence okoye
Marvin burdette

And a NT somewhere.

Need to go back and watch more of these guys to get a better grasp in how I feel about some of the guys y'all have listed in this thread.

jesse williams - nt
alex okafor - de/olb
barret jones - c/og
ryan nassib - qb
tyler wilson - qb
matt barkley - qb
tyler bray - qb
trevardo williams - lb
khaseem green - lb
kevin reddick - lb
stepfan taylor - rb
jonathan franklin - rb
joseph randle - rb

surely a couple of these guys are still available?

jesse should be the pick if available to shore up nose position, superb value too!

okafor & jones are simply bpa

texans should have opportunity to pick-up a top shelf developmental qb, then can turn around & trade Yates for extra 5th.

great value both lb & rb positions as well :wesmantexanfan:

Thanks, there are so many variables involved. Striking regional bias aside Patriots take two from Rutgers UCONN very strong showing as well. Maybe Texans can take Rutgers ILB off the board away from New England with next pick, Steve Beauharnais? Has above average change of direction for position or go back to the south & select Kevin Reddick if still available.

We can add some significant depth in 5th & 6th. I can see ILB, another WR or OG or even a safety/corner like Hawthorne to replace Manning eventually as GRR could replace Reed. Montori Hughes still sitting there for NT. I am surprised that Jesse Williams slid to Seattle a minute ago.

Texans don't comply w/BPA approach only as it relates to need. So I expect they go ILB in 5th as there seems to still be some value left on the board. Wish there was a nose but would be a serious reach now. I'll stick with Steve or Kevin.

I agree and should get a good OLB there if they want. Either Wade has a vet in his back pocket or he likes Terrelle McClain more than I think.

Whoops Klein to Panthers.

Jordan Poyer is my top available prospect left on the board @ this point. Not as big of need but second round grade IMO. Who knows maybe they bookend Hopkins with Rodgers I think reward justify's risk.
