Pete Carroll New GM/Coach

Solution found. Accountability for personel moves both on and off the field. Before I've mentioned Pete Carroll as only the GM, but why not give him the Coaching duties and total control of his assistants, tempo of the game & the draft/FA moves? Just think of the possible FA's that might now consider becoming Texans? right now who do we pin the blame on, Capers or Casserly? I'm suggesting both.

We don't need to rebuild something never built we need a new beginning, a fresh start & kill two birds with one stone :texans:
 
Pete Carroll NFL bio, for those interested:

He was the head coach of the NFL's New England Patriots for 3 seasons (1997-99) and New York Jets for 1 year (1994). He guided the Patriots into the playoffs in his first 2 seasons, winning the AFC Eastern Division title at 10-6 in 1997 and advancing to the second round of the playoffs, then posting a 9-7 regular season mark in 1998. His overall record in New England was 27-21 in the regular season (including 8-8 in 1999) and 1-2 in the playoffs. He owns the franchise's second-best winning percentage (54.9%).

After serving as the Jets' defensive coordinator for 4 seasons (1990-93), he became the team's head coach the following season. His 1994 Jets went 6-10. Only 3 other Jets head coaches won more games in their rookie campaign.

He spent the next 2 years (1995-96) as the defensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers, who won the NFC Western Division title both seasons. The 49ers were 11-5 in the 1995 regular season when they had the NFL's top-ranked defense and then went 12-4 in 1996.

Lance on Sports Radio 610 brought up a very reliable NFL source said that the Texans would be interested in hiring Carroll. I think he is a good fit. If we do hire Carroll and if we do have the #1 pick Reggie Bush is a lock. Unless Carroll wants Matt Lienart. What an interesting off-season it should be.

Nope, only a handful of guys have ever pulled this off but because those few manage to do it then a bunch of other big egos think they can too. This is a case where I'd only be willing to consider it if the candidate has succeeded doing it in the past.

I hope McNair has more wisdom than handing the keys over to one individual. I am ok with a coach who handles player personnel, but not GM/HC. When you start negotiating contracts and dictating when they play or not, it can get extremely messy.
 
Shanahan is the most successful Coach/GM that I can think of. Carrol would not be a bad choice, but I think it would set us back a bit. Not sure though I think Carrol would like our team, but I would hate to see the top pick spent on Bush or Leinhart. Hopefully we win 3 out 5 and we wont have to worry about it.
 
So why would he leave USC or the west coast?

He was born on Sept. 15, 1951 in San Francisco. He and his wife, Glena, who played volleyball at Pacific, have 3 children: sons Brennan, 26, who played tight end at Pittsburgh (he previously played at Delaware) and is now an assistant at USC, and Nathan, 17, and daughter Jaime, 22, who played on the Women of Troy's highly-ranked volleyball team which competed in the 2000 NCAA Final Four.
 
I doubt he will leave USC. He has written his own ticket. He is making tons of money albeit could make more in the NFL, but he has a football Coach K. thing going on in Cali.

Thanks for an example Coach. Shanny has been thought of as a brainiac over the years. His system works as he plugs and plays different players.
 
Can someone tell me why Pete Carroll would have any interest in leaving a perrenial national championship contender for a bad team in the NFL? He coaches the best team in the country, he gets the best prospects in the nation, and he is a god in Los Angeles. The NFL is a much harder job than one in the NCAA. The hours are much longer, you have to work a lot harder, and you have to deal with players with huge egos.
 
Funny for some reason I always thought guys like Parcells always called the shots anyway. what bothers me is whats happened to the Texans in the fashion it has & now there seems to be no accountability. Pete has a very broad resume' I believe he is one of the few individuals who could pull it off successfully.

Building a 4th year expansion franchise with someone with first hand top tier College Football talent, also knows who is coming up not to mention who has already been there is what we need. Plus the inticement of dual roles, the ownership of the program and responsiblity of building a winner would just the ticket he would be willing to punch in order to leave SO CAL :texans:
 
I would assume that Carrol will be on the mind of most NFL teams in search of a new leader. Oakland would be a good fit for the Cali boy other than having Al Davis would get in the way and be counter productive. Other than Oakland offering him more money than he would know what to do with and giving him full control do I think Carrol walks away from a situation that fits him. His personality is much more suited for the college game anyway.
 
I never liked him as a NFL head coach. He is great as a college coach, but his motivation tactics don't translate well to the NFL.
 
I doubt he leaves USC anytime soon, regardless of how much money is thrown at him. Why leave a good thing for a bad situation? Can't say that I'd blame him for staying in the NCAA.

To all those people who feel that Bush would be a lock if Carroll was the Texans GM/HC I would counter with he would understand the value of Bush better than anyone else and the LOCK would be that he would maximize his value and would garner a bigger package in return should he trade the pick, and if he did draft him he would know better than anyone else how to use him. This is just one example of a win/win should McNair choose to replace the powers that be :texans:

I still have faith in the Texans and that this is truely one of the best organizations in the NFL. USC was in a "bad situation" before Pete Carroll, he loves turnarounds and building a championship program. disproving nay-sayers may be another :cool:

now how does Pete Carroll proposed new GM/HC sound? he knows the buisness and would use the #1 pick to gain as much value as possible :texans:
 
Two very interesting paragraphs:

1- "Quarterbacks have gone No. 1 in the past five drafts and in seven of the past eight - some good (Peyton Manning, Vick, Carson Palmer), some bad (Tim Couch) and some I-don't-knows (Smith)."

No comment on Carr (this is written by the reporter) leads me to believe we are at least talking wiht Carroll.

2- What jumped out? Bush is small. Not sort of small. Small shoulders. Thin frame. He's listed at 6-foot, 200 pounds, which is 20 to 30 pounds lighter than Tomlinson or Marshall Faulk, but Bush is smaller than that.

I believe that heart, will and mentality always trump size. But this will weigh into where Bush may eventually fall in the draft.
