PFT HOU among teams should be interestd in Romo (extended by Cowboys)

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo reportedly will be available in free agency come 2014. While Romo has one less Super Bowl ring (and eight fewer postseason wins) than Peyton Manning, Romo also has had four fewer neck surgeries. And Romo is four years younger.

So if, as Ian Rapoport of NFL Network has reported, Romo can’t be tagged in 2014, Romo needs to merely get through the 2013 season unscathed. He then can sign with the highest bidder, or pick the best situation.
Based on current quarterback situations, interesting teams include the Bills, Jets, Bengals, Browns, Texans, Jaguars, Chiefs, Raiders, Eagles, Bears, Vikings, Buccaneers, Cardinals, and Rams.

Seems like they are just throwing darts at a board and listing teams to me.

Say what you want about romo but if the money made sense, I would consider him a clear upgrade from Schaub and would like to see him here.

He will be paid top dollar from someone else so it won't matter but thats my two cents.

Romo is a good QB and he is what separates the cowboys from a 3-13 season. He makes that team appear much better than they actually are.

Terribly titled thread. Even PFT didn't try to make it seem like the interest was current (or real for that matter).
Agreed. I heard they were working on a $100mil extension for him as we speak.

Looks like the writer of that story had a deadline to meet...

If money was close I would take Romo with his play making ability would be fun to watch here. I am thinking money he would demand would and will take Texans out of even considering Romo here.

I would take Romo over Schaub.
At the money Romo is likely to get, I'd just as soon go in another direction entirely.

While he won't see Flacco money (or what Rodgers is likely to get soon), I believe it will be considerably more than Schaub just got.

I don't mind the thought of moving on from Schaub, I just think there's better ways to do it than bringing in T. Romo.

Listen. I live in the Dallas area. There are a lot of people up here who wouldn't be too upset if Romo moved on.

While I think he's an athletic upgrade from Schaub and while I think he'd make a lot of plays Schaub can't, he also loses a lot of games for you. He pushes way too hard sometimes and makes stupid mistakes going for the big play instead of just playing it safe.

If we're going to move on from Schaub, I'd like to see us go in some direction other than Romo.

Isn't the reverse why we don't want Schaub though?

With Schaub and Romo, you have two extremes: a guy who plays it close to the vest and a guy who takes every chance he can.

With a good team, I prefer the guy who plays close to the vest although I know that drives a lot of you guys crazy.

The perfect QB would be someone in between. A guy who recognizes when to take his shot and when to reel it in.

If Romo came here and played QB for us, there would be just as many people complaining about him and begging for him to be cut as there are people complaining about Schaub and begging for him to be cut. All it would take would be a couple of bone-head plays that cost us games.

When the pressure is ratcheted up in close games Schaub, more often than not either throws it away to live to fight another day or just takes the sack b/c he's not mobile enough to get out of the way.......Texans fans :hairpull: "why didn't he try to make a play!!!"

When the pressure is ratcheted up in close games for Romo...more often than not he can escape, tries to make a play and either throws a pick or is sacked from behind and fumbles.....Cowboys fans :hairpull: "Jesus christ just throw it away!!!!"

Lol at anyone thinking that we'd be getting an upgrade over schaub if we got Romo....both guys are the same person!...I've watched enough of both of these guys to know that when the heat is on, and the game is put in their hands the percentages are high that both these guys are going to make a mistake that'll cost you the game...Doesn't mean that they will...but very likely. Both also play under dumb ass coaches too so it's extremely unlikely that they'll be any different here or there.

Romo is better than Schaub. But Romo will never be able to win a Super Bowl. So if you're switching QBs, go after one you think might be able to. What Schaub lacks in the physical department, Romo lacks in the risk analysis department.

What exactly makes you think Monte Kiffin is going to be any improvement over Rob Ryan?
Seriously? Monte Kiffen coached 11 top 10 defenses in 12 seasons. If there were a hall of fame section for assistant coaches, he should be in it. Rob Ryan is the most overrated DC in the NFL (one top 10 in 9 seasons). It was an embarrassment having that defense allow 400 points for the season. There's more than enough talent there for Kiffen to turn things around.

Put Romo behind a good O line and give him a stud RB/Defense and he'd put up better #'s than Schaub imo.

A lot of the mistakes you see him make in Dallas is because he's asked to do too much at times. A lot like Phillip Rivers recently.

Well yeah, if you go back in time, he was a great coordinator, but it has been 6-7 years since he had a good NFL defense. He was terrible during this last college stint with Tennessee and USC. Whether or not he can bounce back from those down years is yet to be seen, but I doubt he's going to come in and fix a dysfunctional team in one offseason. It happens sometimes, but not often, and I would think it's even less likely with Jerry Jones at the helm making picks. Sure he should be better than Rob Ryan, but that's not saying much. I seriously doubt this Dallas defense is top 10 in points against next year.

I like Romo, I don't like Schaub. But I think the move would be more lateral..... & a waste of our time. Can Romo win a Super Bowl? Sure, with the right team. Maybe with the team we have now. Can Schaub win a Super Bowl? Sure, with the right team. Maybe with the team we have right now.

Romo made Laurent Robinson look like a better receiver & I'm starting to think he makes Austin look better as well. He's had a revolving door at RB, RT, Center, both guards... but the man is talented & he can (& will) throw the ball.

I think we are a more complete team than what the Cowboys fielded in 2012, but our lack of depth showed in December, when our guru couldn't overcome our weaknesses. There's about a half a dozen ifs that prevented us from winning it all this year & that's with Schaub. I don't think Romo would have overcome them by himself.

Well, I take that back. His mobility damn sure would have helped us down the stretch, but his mistakes would have probably put us in a bigger hole.... so it's hard to say.

But basically, I agree with most others. If the Schaub era is over (& I don't believe it's even close to over, you guys are going to be really surprised by Schaub in2013) Romo is not the direction I want to go...... & I like Romo.

Looks like a moot point:

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter 6m

Cowboys and Tony Romo reached an agreement on blockbuster 6-year extension that makes him highest paid player in team history, per sources.

Aaron Rodgers and Matt Ryan must be salivating over this.

Over/under Aaron Rodgers gets the most lucrative contract in NFL history?

I'd take romo over schaub all day. This offense would be a really good fit for romo. The throws aren't too hard...the scheme gets favorable match ups...a team that's committed to running the ball. A coach that has worked with a bunch if qb's and for all his warts knows how to get them to up their game...

Yes, sign me up.

I have serious doubts about etiher Romo or Schaub leading teams to the Super Bowl.

I'm not saying that they cannot be part of Super Bowl teams, but they won't be the catalyst for a Super Bowl run.

He may not have the neck surgeries Manning has, but it will 10 neck surgeries worth of experience for him to mature enough to stop making boneheaded plays and do what we (or the Cowboys) would need from him. If Schaub had Romo's ability or Romo had Schaub's maturity on the field, I'd probably go with that guy.

While I agree with the premise of your post....Kiffin's defense is Safety driven. They have the penetrators up front and what looks like a very solid LB corp. They should have good CB play as well. But Safety is by far the weakest position on the defense and the Safeties carry the biggest burden in his defense.

Couldn't agree more. Kiffin is one of the best DCs in the league, Ryan makes his living off his brothers name

You could say the same about Schaub.
Not since 2009. Over last 42 games, Schaub has had (6) games of 40+ pass attempts. Compares to Romo's 14 games and Rivers 13 games of 40+ pass attempts over the same span. The Texans rely much more on their rushing attack than either of theses teams.

Comparing Tony Romo's New Deal To Matt Schaub's: The QB Contract Conundrum
...
Obviously, both teams hope that these deals work out and their quarterback takes them to the promised land, and whichever team is able to do that, practically by definition when it comes to the quarterback position, got the better deal with their guy.

But looking at worst-case scenarios, which team is potentially more saddled with a guy they flat out overpaid? Well, considering the following:

1. Their cap hits in Year 1 (2013) are about the same, and...

2. In Years 2 and 3 of the deals (2014 and 2015), Schaub counts about $7 million and $8 million less respectively in those seasons than Romo against the cap, and...

3. The Texans can eject on the Schaub Experience after this coming season for a whopping $30 million less in "dead money" against the cap than Dallas, and less than it will cost the Cowboys to eject on Romo in 2016, let alone 2014...

Well -- let's say it together, Texan fans -- "WELL, AT LEAST WE'RE NOT DALLAS!"

Since 2009 - pass attempts per game.

Rivers 34.4
Romo 36.4
Schaub 33.6

Romo had a very uncharacteristic season last year with 648 passing attempts - 98 more than his next highest season.

I would argue our rushing attack has been more successful and thus we have run the balanced attack we want. SD and Dallas are getting defended.

Just meant in terms of when it's time for the qb and only the qb to make a play for his team.

That would be any team that is behind, right? And the Cowboys have been behind more often, recently, than the Texans so...
