Texans lose both S Alan Ball and RB Justin Forsett to Jaguars

I think I saw Keo on the field more that Alan Ball so I'm not to upset over loosing him. Forsett will hurt more but we will probably sign a FA rookie who fits our scheme so we should be OK.

doesnt hurt my feelings loosing ball. But Forsett? hes different i liked what he brought while tate was hurt. is there something going on that we dont know about?

Haha starting to sound like you would lose the whole team if it gets you compenatory picks.

All seriousness any compensatory picks would be better then resigning them, even though i like forsett...

Last year the comp pick AAV ranges were:

3 - $6.5/$7 million and greater
4 - $5 to $6.5/$7 million
5 - $4 to $5 million
6 - $2.5/2.75 to $4 million
7 - $1 to $2.5/2.75 million

Glover got 4.7 a AAV
Barwin got 6 AAV
Casey got 4.833 AAV
Ball got ?
Forsett got ?

If we don't sign anyone of note, we should get a pair of 5ths and a 4th in compensation. Probably a 7th for Ball or Forsett. I imagine they didn't sign for much. It's better than nothing :D

And before anyone asks, Kevin Walter doesn't qualify for comp picks because he was cut, so it doesn't matter what he signs for elsewhere.

These are back of the roster players, so it's going to be hard for too many people to dial up any give a damn over this. But think about this - that's two more spots that they'll have to fill. Will they fill them with better players, hopefully for less money? There are only so many draft picks and depth matters. It's unfortunate that Alan Ball saw the field at all last year, but he did. Forsett gave some quality carries in his limited time. Now there's a need for depth.

But they signed Gardener and ... well, someone else. I forget his name.

That's a bummer. I liked Forsett. So which free agent Runningback are we bringing in to be our 3rd RB? We went from Ward, to Forsett, now ????

If we don't sign anyone of note...
That would be disturbing. I realize they have 11 draft picks coming, but there needs to be some vets brought in to fill spots like WR, NT, ILB, and SS. Not big names guys necessarily. But not all vet minimum guys, either.

The Texans have a few million dollars to spend; I think they will sign somebody. ???

He's still on the Jaguars roster I believe.

Did not know that , Thanx for clarity . Well the Texans scout team has found some pretty good gems as of late , idk some poetic dude . I got faith they'll another guy since they've been pretty good at it

You can all overlook Allan Ball if you want .... But he and Braman were the best players on special teams last season , both consistently making plays. Without either of them , a piss poor ST unit is leaps and bounds worse.

And he did play pretty well when given the chance in coverage too .... made significant improvement from the preseason to the end of the year.

Replacable ? Yes .... But I'd liked to have seen him stay just for his ST play.

We have Devin Meggett on the reserve/future list.

I actually like him a little more than Grimes; he's just smaller; however I think he also blocked quite well in college.

He looked about the same to me in PS, just that Grimes had a few more holes from what I saw.

We'll see what he can do next pre-season.
Hopefully, he gained some more muscles without losing agility.

A little bowling bowl might not be too bad.
There's some good prospects in the late round, too.
And we have a few comp picks.

Never mind, Meggett is on the Colts reserve/future list.

The Texans probably need to draft a rookie just in case there is a market for Tate next off-season, but finding another Forsett is pretty easy. The Texans signed him late enough last year and there will be more veteran rbs available.

Yeah, there are quite a few of them graded between round 4 and 7.
Big backs, fast back, take your pick.
I don't want to turn this into a draft thread. But I really like A&M's Christine Michael for the Texans. I know about his injuries and his combine mishap. I just think this guy has NFL RB written all over him.

Wasn't he a FB, then? Not that this team couldn't use a FB.

He was then. The Broncos had that year when everyone they put back there to carry the rock got hurt and Peyton Hillis broke out bigtime. He was like an 18 wheeler running out of this scheme (so much bigger than everyone else they had at the time) but the important thing was he seemed to see the holes and then tear into them. Really looked to be suited to the one-cut-and-go idea. Not sure if he could still be that guy but he's never had that kind of success anywhere else and it was in (basically) this offense.

That was his rookie season. He could easily play FB for us and has good hands as well. Nice flexibility. Should not be an expensive player.

Marcus Lattimore would be the best value in middle rounds. By the time he's 100%, Tate's contract would be up.

Yeah, but what if Foster or Tate get hurt early in the season? They need somebody that's healthy now, not a year from now. Although, that could be a great value pick if you knew he would return to his pre-injury self and got him on the 3rd day of the Draft. When is he projected to start playing again?

^^^^ This!

I agree with this and remember Ball making a number of good plays on ST's.

Now we have more holes to fill! :kubepalm::wadepalm:

Losing Forsett is going to hurt more than you think if Tate doesn't return to form.

What's going to suck, is that I don't think we utilized Forsette as well as we should have. But I've felt that way since he flashed in Seattle. He's not an every down back, but he's got all the talent to be a Danny Woodhead kind of guy, a poor man's Reggie Bush.

When you think of a backfield with Arian, Casey, & Forsette you'd think you can create whatever kind of match up nightmare you want. At least I do. But Casey didn't get one carry, Forsett didn't get 5 balls thrown his way, & Arian was rarely used for anything other than a check down.

I'm all about being conservative & protecting the ball while throwing for 4000 yards and all, but I think we had enough weapons to do what we wanted, when we wanted, & move the chains.

Casey had .... One carry in 2011 for 11 yards and one carry in 2012 for 6 yards.

I get your point ...

That is true, and quite disappointing. He's a threat in open space, and we never really used him that way. The good news is that you can't expect Gabbert to suddenly bring out the best in Forsette either.

I don't know. Forsett will probably making a pretty good safety blanket for on screens & checkdowns. We all know the little booger ain't going to stop running until the whistle blows.

BTW, there's a lot of speed in this draft class, it shouldn't be too difficult to find ST player. What's the odd of Nading making the team, anybody wants to venture? lOL!

You laugh, but with each passing day, it becomes more & more likely he will be among the best 53 athletes the Texans can cobble together.

Before this year, I always predicted that he will somehow make the roster (may be not for the whole season). This year, I doubt he'll make it.
At best, he will be a phone call away, if we get decimated at LB.

I hope he doesn't buck the odd again.
