Ravens trade Anquan Bolding to SF for 6th-round pick

It's the salary that's the killer. They had the cap room right now to absorb it I guess.

The 49ers had way too many draft picks anyway. Expect them to wheel and deal like crazy during the draft. There's no way they will use up all of their picks.

IDK, $6m base and cap; Walter savings could reduce that a bit.

Gotta admit, when I heard the 49ers got Bolden for a 6th round pick & $6M... I was pissed.

After a few minutes, I got home.... fixed a drink, sat down.... relaxed a bit, I reassessed the situation.

& I'm steaming mad.

Even if for one year, Bolden would allow either a draft pick, Posey or Jean a chance to be ready for 2014.

Teams are making noves all over the NFL. Texans?

Dont give me the cap crap, Rick/Olson created the cap issues. Other teams were able to look ahead and keep their cap house in order. Texans?

BTW, Benn from Tampa Bay could be had for a 6-7th rd pick. While he hasn't lit the NFL on fire, he has ability and is a good blocker. Worth a shot? Salary next yr 650,000

I'd love to have Bolden .... but the fact of the matter is the Texans dont have the cap space.

SF has the cap space to absorb that $6m .... They get significantly better with this move .... but the Ravens lose an impact player.

...I'm steaming mad.
Not me. $6 million for a guy who turns 33 and has 7 TDs in his last 33 reg season games and isn't running past many guys.

AB is a leader, and plays angry, but that's a fit for perhaps only the 49ers and only for one year imo.

Don't you think we have enough developmental guys? I understand trying to replace Posey, but wouldn't you think a 6th/7th could be put to better use & try to catch this guy in FA?

Looks like they might draft a WR 1st round. Jacoby is now #1.
No Torrey Smith is #1, Pitta is a close 2nd. Tandon Doss was drafted for the slot but has been slowed in dev since Boldin was here, his time to shine.

Total nepotism.

Vikings offered a 7th, 9er's offered a 6th. Last I checked Ozzie Newsome is Balts GM and Trent Baalke is 9ers GM- Harbs bros had nothing to do with it...

LOL - yeah, OK. And Rick Smith makes all the personnel decisions in Houston.

This is basically a 7th round pick (i.e. effectively nothing) for a guy who arguably was the single biggest reason the Ravens are getting fit for rings.

Imagine how the rams and cardinals feel today. Harvin and Boldin added to the conference all in a matter of hours. Sheesh. Btw Ravens won't win 8 games after that move. He was the toughest most physical wr on that team. Bailed out flacco out of those punts he used to throw.

Texans kind of pissed me off when they didn't even kick the tires on Boldin a few years ago, and today's move pissed me off again. IMO, Boldin is one of the best WRs of this era. He may be a notch below AJ, but he has put up similar numbers, plays tough, and has been more durable. I'd kill to have him teamed with AJ.

They would have had to do some serious maneuvering/cutting to get Boldin. He had a great postseason, no doubt. During the regular season, Boldin was going to get you about 60 yards/game. For $6 million. And you've probably created a hole at DE or LG. I can't blame the Texans front office for not making a move like this.

Seahawks & 49ers are going to be some great games!

and here I as, all convinced by Texans fans that it was Jacoby Jones fault,, effort that won the ring....

Damn, gonna have to re-write history now...call Stalin for input

He wasn't a Free Agent= Ravens traded a 2nd for him.

That's with Flacco throwing him the ball. Flacco is the greatest QB in the world & all that, but he attempts too many low percentage passes.

Especially if we're talking about picking him up a few years ago like eriadoc is saying, Bolden & Aj would've beasted.

Never said he was, but everyone knew he was going to be traded.
Yes, and Boldin had cap hits between $6.5-$7.5 million through those seasons. Again, it comes back to resource allocation and where the Texans would have had to cut back to bring in Boldin. Until 2012, the Texans passing offense was the least of their worries.

This!

If you say you wish we had Boldin, please state who you'd want cut to have him.

Fcco's cap hit this seaon is less than Boldin's would have been- thats the deal with back loaded contracts with huge SB in the front....its the way thingsare done...

Yes, but Rick Smith doesn't seem to have a clue on how to get the most out of trade. It's like he doesn't even care to make the effort. Not saying that I know that for sure, but every off season there always seems to be players on the trading block for cheap and we're never in the running it seems. Rick's build through the draft only mentality has always irritated the hell out of me. It's a stubborn approach along with Kubiak's mind set as well. It just seems like we're never players in any sweepstakes for certain guys that can be had on the cheap in different trade scenarios. This lack of cap space irritated the hell out of me last off season and I talked about the problem at WR a lot in here, and all I ever heard from the typicals in here were how these young rookies were going to have these great seasons and carry the load just because.......Now we're a year away and all those same people are begging for WR's, and we still don't have the cap room to go out and find a new weapon to help out the passing game.

This will always be a problem with Rick Smith unfortunately:gun:

But..... didn't you read Dale Murphy's thread about how Rick was the bestest GM ever..... LOL

Well, I am no capologist, nor do I pretend to be. I will say that I would rather have had Boldin on the team for the past three seasons than Kevin Walter, one of either OD or Dreessen, Anthony Hill was here in 2010, one of either Dan Outofboundsky or Leinart, Bryant Johnson, Amobi Okoye, or frankly, Kareem Jackson, who still hasn't earned his 2010 or 2011 salary. So how you work all that out, I don't know, but I feel like they could have afforded Boldin if they wanted to. And AJ + Boldin would damn sure have been an improvement over AJ + OD and the Wonder Scrubs.

Yeah, every decision has consequences on the salary cap, but that reasoning kicks as hard as it shoots.

EDIT - I just had to go remind myself what the Orlovsky deal was. It was 3 years, $9M. I think that could have been money better spent on Boldin, personally.

It's a No-Go for the Texans.
You signed a guy who can shut down Boldin (J Jo); why would you want Boldin on your roster?

Well, I am no capologist, nor do I pretend to be. I will say that I would rather have had Boldin on the team for the past three seasons than Kevin Walter,

Boldin's 3yr avg stats:62 catches /882 yds/5TDs.
Walters 3yr avg stats:44 catches/ 538 yds/ 3TDs.

Why??
Because we didn't get him...
...or because one Harbaugh gifted a useful weapon to his little brother's team??
