Sio Moore, OLB, UConn

Hall of Fame
Another guy that the Texans interviewed.

I think I like this guy.
Very versatile, can play any LB position as well as at DE.
He's a very solid overall player.
He can rush.
He can cover pretty well.
He's stronger than he first look.
Plays with good technique and seems to be very instinctive.
Looks pretty quick and fluid.
Performed well during the Shrine game week.

Currently rated as a 4th rdr by CBS Sports, 3rd-5th by Walter Football.

Looks like a sleeper to me.

With the speculation that the Texans are moving Reed inside, and reports that the Texans were talking to Moore, he could be a rotational 3-4 for this team. I like what I saw at the East-West Shrine game from him, he was aggressive and managed to have the most tackles at the game.

I watched a little bit of the other guy we interviewed, Gerald Hodges, and I think I like Sio more.

From what I can see, Hodges is used as a downhill player.
In coverage, so far, all I saw was zone.
He wasn't asked to play man, and didn't look to have the fluid hips that Moore has to turn and run with the TE or RB.

He can play all 4 LB positions for us, I think.

pretty good value. supplemental pick (3rd) or wait until 4th?

I want to watch some more of him, but my initial feeling is that he's a better prospect than Sharpton.

Probably need to wait for the workout results to complement and confirm what I think I saw.

I had read the Texans were looking at Moore at the Shrine game but had not seen or heard anything about him before that. Looking at the youtube clips you provided, he seems to flash at times, but he also seemed to be unable to shed blocks and was pushed out of the play at times also. He also seemed to hesitate on some plays and seemed like he didn't want to stick his nose in on the action. Overall, I'd say he is not a "thumper" but flashes enough speed, strength, coverage skills, etc.. to pick up maybe in the 4th. Problem is, this class is so weak at ILB, that someone may look at him in the 3rd or even late 2nd. JMO!

There might not be top end talent level this year, but the number of prospects projected to go between 2nd to 3rd is as strong, if not stronger than last year.

Last year, 6 guys were drafted in the first 2 rounds and two in the 3rd at OLB; and 3 guys were drafted in the first two rounds at ILB (for a total of 11).

This year, 4 guys were given the solid nod at OLB in the first two rounds (by CBS Sports), 4 are graded between 2nd/3rd, and 2 are graded as solid third. (That's a total of 10 guys.)
4 more guys are graded higher than Moore (but not necessarily better.)

At ILB, there are two top guys (Minter and Teo), and 3 more guys graded higher than Moore.

A comp pick in the third, or an early pick in the fourth can certainly do the trick for Moore (based on the ranking at this time); however, I haven't look at the other guys yet to see whether Moore may leap-frog them in the days ahead.

If the Texans don't go ILB in the 1st (Minter), then I hope they go for either Alonso or Bostic in the 2nd to 3rd rounds, or maybe Klein in the 4th. It's hard to project where some of these guys will go until after the Combine and Pro-Days. Most project Minter late 1st, but some have him dropping into the 2nd. And, I don't think anyone can project where Te'o will go.

My question was: how does he play the run? Can he maintain outside contain or get swept away like just another lightweight CB?

Being able to rush the passer is inconsequential if teams can run on you all day.

I think Insideop is being a bit too harsh.
I think Sio Moore can play either OLB or ILB.
I'm putting him at ILB; he looks to be one of very few LBs that can cover in space that I've seen at the collegiate level the last few years.

Moore measured 6 ft 240 lbs at the Senior Bowl. He's not playing DE in the NFL.

With that size I don't think he's playing OLB either, his size screams ILB to me and if he's got any pass coverage ability he should catch on to a team for ILB depth.

I think Ogletree is actually better than Teo and at the moment Minter. Give Minter some more playing time and I think he will be a steal at ILB.

I haven't watched much LB play yet so I don't know enough about Ogletree, but Minter is supposed to be drafted in the first two rounds (and most likely won't be available at our spot), how can he be a steal? More like he's gonna be worth his spot, you mean???

His ability to cover in space is what I like.
I think he can complement Cushing well.
With an extra pick in the third; I think we can spend one of our third pick here.
This guy has a lot of potential.

This way we can leave Reed at OLB.

But more to the point; you don't have the production he had because you can't shed block.

Moore performed well during the Shrine game week as well as the Senior Bowl week.

In the Senior Bowl itself; he had six tackles playing part-time (including a sack and 2 Tackles for loss.). I need to go back and watch how he got them though.

It's hard to tell where he'll end up. WalterFootball.com has Moore listed as a 4-3 OLB at 6'2" and 229 lbs. That's great size if he were going to be a Safety. cbssports.com has him listed as an OLB at 6'1" and 240 lbs. This is probably a more accurate weight they got from the Shrine or Senior Bowl weigh ins, but not sure. Guess we'll have to wait for the Combine.

240 weigh-in at Senior Bowl.
33-inch arm with 79-1/2 reach and 10-3/8 hands.
Excellent numbers for a LB.

Those arms are longer than Winston and Kyle Long.

There are several work-out videos on youtube.
The guy is a rock with good work ethic.

Brandon Jenkins, Florida State

He's pretty fast and quick alright. Dunno if the lisfranc injury will hurt him or not.
I like the guy on the other side, the German kid, Boerner (sp?).
I think he's a Jr.; did he stay in school for next year?

That guy took quite a few double-teams as a DE; I even saw a triple-team once.
They said he can also play with his hands off the ground, but I haven't noticed it.
I think he can move inside and play 34 DE as a 5-tech, which he did quite a bit.

Never mind, I just checked. Bjorne Werner is coming out this year. He's ranked 2nd overall by CBS behind that OT from TAMU.
No wonder he impressed me.
