JJ Watt: Defensive Player of The Year

J.J. Watt near unanimous Defensive Player of the Year

...
The selection committee also agreed Watt dominated -- he received all but one vote in being selected as the NFL's top defensive standout.
A'ight, who's the numb-nuts who didn't vote for J.J.? :foottap:

Watt was dangerous as a pass rusher despite rushing from the inside, finishing with 20.5 sacks. He was a stout run stuffer, with 23 tackles for loss. And Watt wreaked havoc on opposing quarterbacks with an NFL-record 16 tipped passes.
...
Let's put Watt's dominance in perspective, Watt had 56 "defeats" this season, according to Football Outsiders. (A defeat is a forced turnover, a tackle for a loss, or a tackle or pass defensed that stopped a drive. In short: How many times did a defensive player completely ruin a play or drive?).

The previous all-time high for "defeats" was 45, set by Ray Lewis in 1999. Watt beat that by 11. Miller had 39 defeats, good for seventh-best ever.

It's hard for an interior rusher to simply take over games, but Watt did that again and again (games against the New York Jets, Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts stand out). Watt is the single biggest reason the Texans won 13 games, including the playoffs.

It was one of the greatest defensive seasons in modern NFL history. Now it will live on in the record books.

Watt dominated this season. Hands down the best defensive player in the NFL this year. Well deserved DPOY for J.J. Watt!

It was a pleasure to watch him turn in one of if not the most dominant season by a player at his position. J.J. Watt a future H.O.F.

There were times this season when I was more attentive of the game when our defense was on the field rather than the offense. Because at times they were a hell of a lot more fun to watch.

JJ Watt rules, and I'm glad we have him.

Who would of thunk in 2011 the guy we drafted 11 overall would become the DPOY in just his 2nd year. Crazy

Ashley Fox from ESPN (aka the biggest bimbo there) voted for Miller.

Yep, she's clueless. Oh well, it wasn't very close and Watt deserves it.

He believes he can only get better - It must be lovely news to O Lineman everywhere.

ESPN should fire her a$$ -- what a fool.

hey Dan, he can get better however the onus should be on management to surround him with another pass rushing, intimidating, disruptive defensive lineman. let Kubiak stew over the offense & let Wade build the defense :texflag:

All but one reporter votes for Jj Watt & we're still not satisfied... Texans get no respect.

:toropalm:

Haha no I'm satisfied. But she is a bimbo. She wrote this hilarious article that completely blew up in her face that Peyton was going to wipe the floor with the Ravens and how it was gonna be Ray Lewis's last game, blah blah. She's a HUGE Denver groupie.

Have they presented the dpoy award yet?

The night before Super Bowl XLVII, the NFL will salute its best players and plays from the 2012 season with "NFL Honors," a star-studded football and entertainment event at the Mahalia Jackson Theatre in New Orleans. Just like last year, Alec Baldwin will host the proceedings, which will be broadcast on CBS at 9 p.m. ET on Feb. 2.

One of the awards that will be presented on that night: the 2012 Defensive Player of the Year.

Shyte, it's on CBS right now!

Found a link to a low quality video of the presentation:

Just think guys as long as Watt stays healthy (knock on wood) we are witnessing Texan's 2nd HOF player in franchise history. Watt looks like a man amongst boys out there.:swatter:

FO needs to put more talent on the DLine with a 1st or 2nd round pick this year to help Watt out, I dont want to see Watt doing a AJ having to carry load all the time. #BeastNT4DraftHOU

If Watt keeps putting up these type of seasons he should make it easily to the HOF. A few :trophy::trophy::trophy: would help too! But the Texans need to get him under a long term contract and not let him hit the market! If Mario got $100,000,000 contract, can you imagine what teams will offer Watt! We better hope the NFL starts raising the cap so we can keep all the players we need.

awesome season. well done JJ. not that it matters but it deserved to be unanimous decision. id love to hear that dumb ***** explain how, arguably the greatest individual defensive season ever wasnt worthy of dpoty....

if theres 49 v 1 vote, that one voters ability to vote should be revoked cos theyre obvious either biased or clueless. not to mention, all votes should be to ppl who actually watch the game and have the ability to fairly compare performances (eg bil barnwell on grantland) and not some espn ditz with a set of milkers and a crush on von miller

Maybe 3rd. AJ should make it, and I think Cushing has a shot if he stays healthy. Also lets not rule out AF if we can utilize him properly and his heart holds up. I think the key to Foster having a shot would be putting a good QB in the mix so defenses cant just key on the run and not worry about the pass.

Maybe 5th. I agree with Foster. But also I think Duane Brown has HOF potential.
