Who's our next coach?

Zombie Vince Lombardi gets my vote.

Seriously my "wish" pick is Jimmy Johnson but bigTEXan8 is almost correct when he says it's not going to be. I disagree but I think it's extremely unlikely that we get him as opposed to "flat out not gonna happen" I never believe a coach when he says that he's not interested in coaching. John Madden is the exception, not the rule. If JJ won't come here it's probably not because he's too comfortable on his boat and working in the studio. It's because he doesn't want the Texans job, simple as that.

It could also mean that Bob McNair hadn't asked him which is something a lot of us (myself included) seem to overlook. Bob just may not want Jimmy Johnson here. He may like him, think he's a nice guy and a good coach, and he may just think he's not a good fit here.

Plus if Dom is gone but Casserly survives then Charlie will have input on the hiring process (I'm sure) and he won't want someone like Jimmy Johnson getting into a position that could lead to Casserly going out the door. The power struggle angle has to be considered.

My realistic choice for head coach is... I just don't know. I have some criteria at this point but no candidates. I know that if they pick a former NFL head coach I think the words "proven winner" need to be involved. A "proven loser" we already have. I also think that if they can't find someone who's done it and who they feel good about then I want them to disregard retreads and look to younger assistants around the league.

Here are a few:

Gary Kubiak (Denver OC)
Cam Cameron (San Diego OC)
Jerry Gray (Buffalo DC)
Kirk Ferentz (Iowa)
Al Saunders (Kansas City OC)
Jimmy Johnson (broadcasting)
Pete Carroll (USC)
Jim Johnson (Philadelphia DC)
Monte Kiffin (Tampa Bay DC)
Jim Fassel (Baltimore OC)
Mike Singletary (San Francisco Asst HC)
Jeff Tedford (Cal)
Dick Lebeau (Pittsburgh DC)
Mark Richt (Georgia)
Frank Beamer (Virginia Tech)
Wade Phillips (San Diego DC)
Tom Moore (Indianapolis OC)
Bob Stoopes (Oklahoma)
Charlie Weis (Notre Dame)
Mike Zimmer (Dallas DC)
Greg Knapp (Atlanta OC)

i would love to see Jimmy Johnson as our HC.. but lets be realistic it's not gonna happen.. JJ is living the sweet life right now.. he's one of the most respect figures in sports and he can just relax.. but if he does.. hey.. I'm all for it..

but I would love to see..

Tom Moore (OC - Indianapolis)
Jerry Gray (DC - Buffalo)
Monte Kiffin (DC - Tampa Bay)
Mike Zimmer (DC - Dallas)
Greg Kubiak (OC - Denver)
Al Saunders (OC - Kansas City)
Mike Singletary

We might as well can the coaching staff today. What more can they do to drive this team into the ground.

Surely this is the last straw for Capers and staff. I cannot possibly see them having a job tomorrow morning.

I agree, If capers and the entire staff are not fired immediately, the owner is stupid. I think if I was the owner, I would fire the entire team, they all suck. They should all return their paychecks for the entire year, they sure do not deserve them. Noone but the Texans could loose a game like that. Sad, real Sad.

I like Gray, but I don't think they will go with another defensive minded coach after the lack luster performance of the offfense this season.

"Obviously we're disappointed with the way the game turned out," head coach Dom Capers said. "We just did not execute at crunch time.

My God. Please fire Capers now.

Pete!!!!

I don't think he'll come though.

Anyone watching Fox this morining heard it. When asked to JJ who he taught would end up with the first pick (Reggie Bush) he replied Houston. When asked who would end up with Bush on their team he did not mention Houston. One has to wonder, if JJ comes to Houston he plans to not have Bush on this team and he did mention other teams trading to move up for Bush. I like the man already..

So if I'm reading between the lines here correctly. What we're saying is, Bush may be worth alot of picks to us? Sounds very similar to a Hershel Walker trade to Minnesota trick to me <grin> Chant it with me...JIMMY! JIMMY! JIMMY! ;)

No doubt, if the Texans hire Jimmy Johnson he'll look to trade down and acquire extra picks. He has a history of doing this.

I'll be happy either way. We just need to end up with either the #1 or #2 overall. They both have value in trade downs.

Aaaaah yes. The infamous Dom Capers catch phrae.
How much longer can you stand to hear this on the radio, McNair???? Hopefully, you checkout this board and see that we are tired of it.

Personally, I think Howdy frickin' Doody would be an improvement over the joker we currently have prancing the sidelines...

Leech from Texas Tech would be a trip.
Now there's a refreshing idea, much better than hearing again and again from all these Cowboy worshipers chanting "we want JJ".

I remember Bo Jackson trying to take one to the house in Austin, and Jerry ran him down. Bo got hurt and dint come back for the rest of that game

first...mike leach is staying at texas tech...second after what jimmy said at half time i believe he will be our next head coach...after his plea to sit david carr and andre johnson so they would have the number 1 pick in the draft...i think he'll come in and draft reggie bush

I like Ferentz myself. Here's his profile. He's an offensive line guru.

I think they should go after JJ and make him GM/HC. Give him full control of turning this team...

Johnson would be a disaster. He failed in Miami and he would fail big-time here.

Then you'd see the NFL version of the Titanic. This franchise would immediately become the AFC version of the Arizona Cardinals.

Good grief, man! You have all these needs on both defense and the offensive line so you want someone to go ahead and draft the one position where you are decent? Unbelieveable.

JJ Hopefully but ill settle for Pete Carroll:texflag:

He had his run in the NFL and failed. He's a great college coach and that's where he belongs. If he comes to the NFL, he'll be another Butch Davis/Steve Spurrier.

I wouldn't mind Jeff Fisher if Bud decided that was enough of him.

If Capers did go, I wouldn't mind Fisher either. After all, choosing a new coach is always a crapshoot. I personally think they should keep Capers since even folks like Cowher and Schottenheimer had bad seasons. But if you must change coaches, it would be fun to see Fisher back on the Houston sidelines. I don't think he would necessarily make things any better than Capers, but it would be fun from a fan standpoint.

Weis has signed a 10-year contract with ND. Why we'd want Singletary here is beyond me. Of all these folks, I wouldn't mind seeing Wade Phillips or Fisher here. I don't necessarily believe either one would do better than Capers over a four-year span, but it would be fun to see either one on the Houston sidelines from a fan standpoint.

I can tell you who it's not going to be:
JJ
Jeff Fisher
Pete Carroll
I think we have a better chance at getting Joe Pa than any of these guys.

I am not a Jimmy Johnson fan by no means, but if he was asked to coach the Texans I think he would. Did you see him almost come out of his seat during the half time show squawking how the Texans where ruining there chances for Reggie Bush?

Well, try very hard because he'll finish out the season. There's no reason to get rid of anybody at this point since there's simply nothing to gain and you don't really know fully what your options are at this point.

watching the TB-chicago game because I couldn't get the Texan game on direct TV

take Monte Kiffen off the list too .. Fox was talking about him signing on for 2 more years

He's just making noise. If he had any brains, he'd know the smart move would be for the Texans to trade the pick and try to fill their myriad of problems -- especially when they have Davis.

agreed
and I personally don't see anyone on the current staff that would be worth moving up.. It would be different if one of our coaches was making an impact or a young guy with some fire (I am saying this without reading the bios) ..but seems all aspects of the teams except maybe ST is hurting right now..

You should have heard all the whining and crying when he took over USC.

Wonder what those folks are saying now???

Pete has total control at USC. Look where it got him. I think he's going to stay there.

Honestly how many needs do we really have? I'll tell you what I think and that is our needs aren't nearly as many as it appears. More than anything we "need" guys to play up to their abilities. Giving these guys a gameplan they can execute and getting them prepared to play will do more than any one or 5 players.

Also how decent was Davis today? Did he move the chains when we needed to kill the clock? Did he get the hard yards when we needed another first down to keep a drive going? No he didn't. He had a pretty good day (receiving) and a very ordinary day running the ball. We could use an upgrade at RB too.
