I'm just as disappointed as you, but I'm looking forward to next season.

A lot of things didn't go our way, but we managed to win 13 games & the division anyway. Our outside pass rush, big concern in the off-season, never panned out. WR#2 another big concern, never panned out. I think our DBs look better than they did at the beginning of the year.

I think our OL is going to be better in 2013. Brooks will probably start at RG, but I like Ben Jones... I think Newton will be our RT. We'll have one of the better OL in the league again.

I still think we win the division, even with Luck & Colts breathing down our necks.

Some things are going to go our way, some things won't. We'll have some breaks, we'll have some heart aches.

But it's going to be a helluva ride.

yea cant wait to schlepp through the playoffs and beat the bengals again then see our owner give another extension to matt schaub and gary kubiak.

unless we get a new qb and new coach,

its going to be another early exit from the playoffs.

its excruciating to be a texan fan knowing you have the talent to go further but the qb and coach is holding you back.

What concerns me the most, we really had a good deal of fortune on our side this year. While the Cushing injury really hurt, none of our other key players were lost for prolonged periods (yes, we got whacked at ILB). The schedule really played out favorably for us. And I thought the AFC and our division in particular were down (something I expect to change next season and going forward).

This was a season we really needed to make a deep run...no guarantees for the future.

If I was in Houston id be at IAH to cheer the team when they land. We are a team in position 5-8 of 32. Great season. Disappointed with the finish, but still a great year

We've been saying the same thing for the last three years. & it was true, the Colts with Manning weren't tearing it up.

To me, this is like Chess. Or whatever.... I'm not going to win every chess match. Hopefully I'll learn from my losses & grow as a player.

We're in no different position than Denver. I still believe they are one of the better teams in the league. They've got Manning, but at the end of the day, Manning didn't do any better than Schaub.... heck, he actually played worse even though the Broncos scored more points. (The Broncos only scored 24 against a weakened Baltimore defense). We got as far as Rogers who lost to a first time starter.

There's only one winner every year, 32 losers. We're a loser again, but I'm optimistic about 2013.

Last year the team had more talent if you ask me.

I mean just if Mario stays healthy and by the time the playoffs came around Watt was a beast...I can't even imagine a front 7 of Cushing, Ryans, Reed, 2011 Barwin, Watt, Smith, and Mario.

There would be no doubling Watt with Mario and he's still a beast DE when he's healthy.

Not only that but we let go of two really good linemen. IMO they had a real shot at it last year had they not had so many injuries.

Good News! You don't have to! Send an undeniable message to that crook McNair and vote with your feet. Support a real team like the Niners or Patriots who won't take your support for granted and will do everything necessary to win ;)

You can do it!!

The one thing I'd be worried about and I saw Herv and some others allude to it is, how many times do you hold the keys to the kingdom? Meaning homefield and running the playoffs. Next year will the Colts be better, will the Jags do anything...can the Titans turn it around. Every year is a surprise so you really need to take advantage while you can. You might be as good but others may rise up. So next year should be a break through but you always rue years like this.

That is true too.

That is why they say in the NFL you are either getting better or worse. I think they lost a lot of talent last year and are trying to replace it now.

Umm is schaub our qb? If so no need to be excited.

I don't know about you, but I remember very well, being extremely entertained & leaving Reliant happy after sharing a wonderful day with my family, 7 out of 9 times this year.

I also remember sharing days with my family on away games, barbecuing, drinking, just hanging, 6 of 9 times this year.

I had a blast. I talked some ****. I enjoyed myself.

I felt sorry for those guys who would cry themselves to sleep after we won, but enjoyed myself none the less.

I've even got a headstart on my season tickets bill.

we won't win a super bowl so whats the point of even cheering for the texans and following this team?

i'm just gonna be a fan of whatever team wins the super bowl this year.

/sarcasm.

We had a good season. I'm satisfied with getting to the playoffs. I want us to win every year, but guess what? the Colts had Peyton freakin' Manning and only won it once. We're close, and I think we have to change our conservative philosophy to play more aggressive against teams that have good offenses. Even so, this team has a lot going for it. Can't wait till next season.

this is where im at. i feel like staying with him will be another wasted season.. sure we will win 12-13 games next year then fluff out behind our soft as baby shiet qb..

So like the Colts did 8 times with Peyton Manning at the helm? I don't expect us to win every season, but being a perennial playoff team is a helluva lot better than being done at the end of December. :koolaid:

Yeah, I agree with that. Good points, Frog.

This team has maybe one more year. After that, it'll be a dogfight if Matt and Gary are still joined at the hip. Which I expect them to be.

Bob, IMO, when he approved and signed off on the Schaub extension, was saying "We're sticking with this for two more years. I'm fine with that, rain or shine."

Because at the end of the day, we keep coming back and accepting it as such...with ticket sales and apparel purchases. Oh, and especially with JJ Watt apparel purchases. He's the New Andre Johnson for Bob. Walking ATM machine.

I'm torn on this, don't really know. We kicked some butt this year & this conservative thing won 10 games pretty handily. 9 games. I didn't like our odds of winning a shoot-out against the Patriots the first time, but after watching Matt drive us down the field with 4 & 5 receivers, I kinda think we should have attacked the Patriots that way. At least until we got a lead on that defense.

I'd really like to see a different game plan against high powered teams, like the Pats, & Packers, than trying the same game plan we used against Miami. the game plan we saw didn't work against the Lions & Jags.

If there isn't an open competition at QB then the same thing will happen next year.

I'm going to be excited going into next season, unless Walter is still our #2 WR.

I don't even want him on the team. If he's gone, I'll be expecting more 3+ WR sets. I think Schaub would have done better if he had more options, if we played at a faster pace. Maybe there is something wrong with his foot, I don't know. But I think Kubiak not trusting the kids had more to do with Schaub's performance going down the stretch than anything else.

I don't buy into this "conservative" Kubiak talk, that just doesn't make sense. He's an ex-QB, even as a back-up, those guys love to score points. They love throwing the ball.

I remember the general thought around here, was hope that Dennison would slow Kubiak down & prevent him from giving up on the run too early.

There's a reason we played it the way we did, I don't know what it was.

There used to be a time when Kubes was all about throwing it around. Before Foster got here and the run game was inconsistent.

Could be Walter, could be we just need more explosive players to really open up the playbook more.

I think the play of the oline had a lot to do with why he went so conservative late in the season. We need a serious upgrade at RT and we need to draft Wade Smith's replacement at LG as well. It really restricted the playbook that we couldn't run effectively to the right side all year.

Do you guys think we need to scrap parts of the offense next year? Not throw the whole playbook out per se, but change our philosophy.

If we had more receivers, I think our offense would have been different. The kids look good, they're coming along. Next year, hopefully Kubiak will trust them & not need his KDub crutch.

As a huge fan an season ticket holder this year was SUPERBOWL OR BUST, it hurts deeply to say this buy we missed our chance for yrs to come. Aslong as we have Kubiak an Shaub we just had our best record ever... We held our own destiny an totally failed. So much time money n effort spent to be let down, oh well, Go Texans!

I don't get it...

Matt schaub is a good qb right?

Who has he been throwing to all these years?

People complained about jacoby's development as a wr (not you). People have defended Walter's role on this offense.

We lost Dreesen. That's the only guy that there's a consensus on as him being a good player for us. But we replaced him with Grahm who looks pretty damn good.

Is this cast of wr's and te's and backs out of the backfield all that worse than when schaub was throwing for a bunch of yards and considered a borderline elite qb?

We used to play David Anderson. Andre Davis. We used to have Dayne out of the backfield. Andre used to be out a lot. Od missed time.

We used to move the ball freely in between the twenties with lesser talent and not as much experience on offense.

What has happened?

I have a few theories. What do you think?

My main concern with this team is Kubiak's history of coaching like he HAS to win a shootout every time we play an elite Qb. We came out passing heavily today. Foster only ran the ball 22 times and Tate/Forsett didn't even get a touch.

This team had it's opportunity to play Houston Texans football and run the ball 35-40 times today to keep Brady off the field but we chose not to... just like we always choose not to do so when we are matched up against an elite QB.

We can win against these teams if we stick to what we do best. Hell, the team put out excellent effort today. They did the best New England Patriots impersonation they could but they somply aren't a shootout type team.

I keep hoping Kubiak will stop psyching himself out against elite QBs but who really thinks he will?

It doesn't help confidence when the run game is getting demolished by Wilfork and Co. early on. Although in the 2nd Q it started to pick up

meh i would like to see some changes but since we did win 13 games in the RS and did pretty much be the **** out of our divison foes 5-1

i expect next year to be the same has this year get to the div round only 2 get bounced : (

Better prepare to not be excited. Kubiak genuinely believes Walter is a true #2.

let's just fast forward to our wild card win against a mediocre team and our exit in the following game on the road

I can already see the gameday thread...

wouldnt that be funny if we played Cincy agian LOL

Yeah. Foster didn't do anything in the first quarter. He was being stuffed every carry. Houston was down 17-3 when he had two carries for 40 yards late in the 2nd. That was the touchdown drive. After half-time, the game never got closer than 24-13 when the offense had the ball. It's hard to hand the ball off when you're down multiple scores. With all that Foster still had twenty-two carries. That's more than you can expect being down basically the whole game.

hmm I remember the season Schaub got hurt the first play of the game was a 80 yard bomb to Jacoby. People can say what they want but the kid helped open things up for AJ as well. He might not of been much of a threat but he had speed and it forced teams to play him close.

Of course back then we also had Winston and Brisel on the o-line and Schaub seemed to have all day to throw, so i dunno.

It will be interesting to see if Barwin is even offered a new contract or if we let him walk and insert Mercilus into his spot.

In fact, a lot of guys will be F/As this coming season....

- Shaun Cody, DT
- Connor Barwin, DE
- Jesse Nading, DL
- Bradie James, LB
- Tim Dobbins, LB
- Barrett Rudd, LB
- Alan Ball, CB
- Stanford Routt, CB
- Brice McCain, CB
- Quintin Demps, S
- Glover Quin, S

- Antoine Caldwell, OG
- Rashad Butler, OT
- Andrew Gardner, OT
- Ryan Harris, OT
- Justin Forsett, RB
- Shayne Graham, K
- Donnie Jones, P

Will we upgrade these positions or bring some of these guys back? Is there anyone on this list you guys want to see come back (Forsett is my choice)? The off-season ought to be interesting.

The guys I bolded, are the guys I think we bring back. Not so sure about Dobbins, but just in case, I think we keep him.

It wouldn't surprise me if we drafted a RT. I'm actually excited about the O-Line next season. I think Brooks will be awesome, and Jones has done well. The thing that gives me confidence is how well the rookie O linemen handled their situation this year. Normally a rookie O lineman will suffer their first year. Think of Duane Brown in 2008. Jones did well for the most part, and Brooks looked good as well. If those guys can get gelling, along with a stud RT in the wings, Our O line will be back to being awesome, without the expense it would have cost to keep Winston and Brisel.

Also, our WR will be a little more experienced. I was upset that Posey tore his Achillies. I was really beginning to like what I saw from him. Maybe Key Mart will be better.

This is a long shot, but I really hope Kubiak will come out more aggressive on offense. I don't want any doubt in my mind. If the offense puts up big numbers, and I mean really big and aggresive numbers, I believe we will win the Super Bowl. Those are my feelings for 2013. I still have faith. This year didn't go to plan, but just wait. I think the best is still yet to come.

It doesn't matter if the Texans go 1-15 or win the Super Bowl, I'll be backing them the following season anyway. I got plenty to ***** about, and I'm gonna keep bitching about it, but yall've already read it in other threads so I'll save you that here.

I can't wait for 2013 either. I'm a Texan fan no matter what.

:texan:

I think we'll dominate the AFC South again in 2013. Luck will be sophomore, he will suffer, like Cam Newton this year.

haha haven't you got the message yet, m8? The only thing that matters on TT is SUPER BOWL WINS. Anything else is abject failure and should result in wholesale changes all round

TexansChick was talking about catch ratios for a couple of weeks. Matt could throw it to 5 or 6 receivers with reasonable assurancw that it was going to be caught. David Anderson, Kdub, OD and the only Wildcard was Jacoby. But Jacoby would streatch the field. Now the vuys we have including Arian & Walter are nkt catching it like they used to.

I think Andre has lost a step, I think OD has lost a step, I think KDub is slow, Casey is coming out of the backfield & se lost Jacoby. I don't think Matt has been as acurate as his stats suggest & he likes his receiver to be wide open.

I think we shoukd use Walter as a situational TE if we keep him on the team but WR should be saved for people with speed.

We have some replacements already in place.

Cody - Mitchell played better down the stretch and is ready to start IMO. Need depth behind him.

Barwin - Mercilus was drafted to be his replacement IMO. Again, need depth.

McCain - Harris was a 2nd round pick and, while he wasn't drafted to be McCain's replacement, I think he will be.

Caldwell - Jones & Brooks obviously.

Butler - Newton, but need to add talent here. Maybe even upgrade.

James was a stopgap and may be retained but we have Sharpton and I really like Dobbins. Quin is really the only guy we can't afford to lose because there is no replacement there.

Agree with nearly everything you said, especially Cody. Mitchell is more than ready. Add late round NT and I think we are set there.

I don't think Harris is on McCain's level. When McCain was healthy, he did very well when called in for nickel. McCain was far more consistent than the games we saw Harris in.

I'm not necessarilly a "rah-rah" guy, but I agree with you "G"!! I wasn't there, well simply because I'm old and by the time they landed, my old ass was already in bed.

I do think this team has some problems, but at the same time the position of being "5-8 of 32", knowing how hard it is to make it to a Super Bowl yet win one is lost on most people.

***********

There needs to be some changes, for sure. Certainly not as drastic as the "knee-jerk" freaks seem to think.

***********

The concern for me was the decline of the quality of play on the offensive and defensive side of the ball... ST was never so special this season, but okay, fair enough you can work around that..

*EDIT*
PS.... I see Toronto lurking..

It could be worse, The Jersey City police department may or may not be looking for the whereabouts of one Kenny Britt!! ;)
