I'm not saying they played well enough to beat Brady or Manning. That's not the topic of this conversation. They played Andy Dalton, they played the Bengals & they owned.

Props to my boy KJax for keeping up the aggressive play. That hit on Aj Green in the end zone may not have prevented the catch, but I'm sure it went a long way towards putting the Bengal's receivers on notice.

Jjo.... more like his old self. He gambled some, got beat, but for the most part, was able to make up for it. The Int I think puts his play over the top.

Brandon Harris.... didn't even know he was playing. That's a good thing, meant he was not getting called for a penalty. But the way he came from the other side of the field to knock that ball out of Greens hands & save an excellent defensive effort........... WOW, that's all I've got to say.

Manning, the pitbull was at it again, played a very nice game

Quin was a bulldog, got his nose dirty, played tough football.

& last but not least, Shilo Keo stayed deep & did what a safety was supposed to do.

DB's got lucky on a few plays, but this was a major improvement today.

That play to Green should have been a TD. Green is a great WR though. Our DB's did their job today though. Can't ask for much better then that.

JJo and KJax look like they got something going on together.
It's special, KJax didn't play to fan's expectations last year.
JJo took him under his wing and pointed him the right direction to grow it seems.
KJax looking out for JJo on that endzone play, love the camaraderie between the two.

I hope they keep it up next week vs. Brady. I'm more worried of the safety/TE match-up.
Gonna have a challenge vs. Gronko and Herny.

Keo played alright for Keo I guess.

I'm just terrified and am terrified of him even getting a snap against Brady next week.

To me, they had a very good performance today. Some of that would have to be somewhat helped by Dalton's arm/decision making and the WTF type of Bengals offense game plan in general.

today, I really loved me some KJ, Quinn and JJo and Manning specifically.

.......... and the WTF type of Bengals offense game plan in general. .

this!! +rep but the forum GODS said i've given out enough for today?
(WTF TEXANS JESUS?)

i think bad game planning got us ruined first time in NE.
knocking on some wood that kubiak doesnt come out same way at NE next week.

HEY, KUBIAK GO FOR 4TH & SHORT WILL YOU!!!!!!!!!!???*(@)Y@(Y$(E@(Q*(*EA(*

I think that was the play of the game. If nothing else, it showed what kind of effort they committed to playing this game. Kj had his own man to worry about. But he flat out ran his butt off to get there in time.

Same thing with Brandon Harris's pass defensed. That wasn't his ball, it was a very heads up play & extreme effort.

That was another thing about Jackson that I mentioned in the draft player evaluation thread.

He plays good help defense, even at Alabama.
He saved some of his buddies' arses many-a-time.
Or he could be on the other side of the field and came all the way to the other side to save a TD on a run when everybody else already failed.

And in the run game (today) where he blew up an O-lineman, turning the runner in; that was another facet of his game that hardly anybody ever notices.

I still remember when I evaluated him, my conclusion in that thread is that he's a solid (meaning "great" at the collegiate level) overall CB.

The one thing the coaches had not let him do is to rush the QB from the slot.
He was very good at it in college as well.
He can get by the blocker with his quickness.

He can stick his nose at the line to stop short yardage attempt as well.

That was why I said he has all the ability to play safety.

Brandon Harris easily had his best game of the season.

I'd be interested to hear from the guys who rewatch and analyze the games as to whether it was a scheme thing or just a young guy improving.

I expect that Brady will make them look bad, especially if our safeties don't help them AGAIN against him, but I gotta give them props right now, especially K-Jax. That hit he put on the TD pass wasn't necessary, because J.Jo had already knocked it out a spit-second earlier (as was said in a previous post), but it sure would have taken care of the possible catch, had it happened. THAT'S how you help out a teammate in the endzone! :kingkong:

That was a defiant message from K-Jax to the receivers, Dalton, and the OC, and it included quite a few expletives. :d:

Could be that the opposing QB was rattled. Dalton looked awful from the start.

There's little doubt that Brady will be looking for the receivers that Harris and Keo are assigned to. The best way to stop that is to get in Tom's face before he finds them.

Played better today overall, but they had WRs behind them alot. Not going to mention next week as today its their victory :toast2:

KJ is quikly becoming my favorite player....just amazing his progress from 2010 to now...zone man, whatever, he's been absolutely balling this year...now, we need to address the safety position b/c manning, keo and demps all have their issues...we need a ball hawk back there...not 2 thumpers.

Nothing against Watt, who is just astounding, but I think to get to Brady THAT fast will take Wade scheming to get guys (LBs, safeties, etc.) in there unblocked. Brady gets rid of the ball so fast and so accurately a lot of times on those short passes that the receiver might as well not be covered at all, because it doesn't do any good. Better to just have somebody back waiting to hit them after the catch.

The difference between Vance Joseph and David Gibbs is as huge as the gap between Wade and Frank Bush. Joseph is a legit star assistant coach and should get some DC interviews one day.

When his biggest "issues" has been penalties for being too aggresive & physical...

I think it's safe to say he's getting better.

I hear what you're saying. & I also understand you are upset that we lost HFA.

But let me ask you this. Do you think our DBs would have gotten better by sitting at home this week waiting for the Ravens/Patriots to come to Houston?

This team needed, imo, to get on the field & play better than they had against Minnesota & Indy if we're to have a chance against Brady (& to a lesser extent Baltimore) of winning.

This game, while against Andy Dalton was a good step in the right direction, if you ask me.

Agreed.

Agreed.

TBH, I am starting to care more about anything that will influence referees, HFA being one of them. I don't disagree at all with what you're saying, but I'm tired of bull$^!+ calls and coincidences.

(Deleted a long rant on a different topic...)

Quin, KJ nice game.

JJo good enough.

Harris okay, got lost out there on one play. Keo not bad, had the one penalty, but they didn't attack him much.

Manning not a good showing. Iffy coverage. Don't know where his head was on that offsides penalty.

Manning and supporting cast need to step it up against the Patsies. We need better depth.

I didnt see demps, only keo...

Front 7 got in Dalton's head early. Bengal's stubbornly ignored aj green for the entire 1st half.

I agree, but I'm looking at what we saw as a step in the right direction.

I don't think the team went into the game yesterday thinking they had to beat New England. I think they should have been looking for a step change. I think I saw a step change.

Next week, they'll be looking to take another step. we'll see how that works out for them.
