With the minimal progress that we have seen from David Carr in the last 4 years and the immense progress that we have seen from Vince Young in 3 years of PLAYING in college I ask this question: Who would you rather have as the FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK of the HOUSTON TEXANS? David Carr or Vince Young? Vince has become a pass first, run second quarterback as opposed to when he was a run first, pass second quarterback as a Frosh. He is already Texas' all-time leader in total offense as a JUNIOR. Lead the Longhorns to a Rose Bowl birth. On the verge of leading the Horns to an UNDEFEATED season and a spot in the National Championship game against what some argue the "greatest college team ever" or "greatest college offense ever." Will finish in the top 2 of the Heisman Vote. Oh yeah, remember the last time a football team from Houston took a guy from Texas with the first pick to be their franchise player?

Personally, I'd rather see a guy who threw for over 9,100 yards in his collegiate career and won a professional league MVP by the name of Ragone. Ragone was able to get Louisville into the top 20, Louisville. Vince Young will have to throw for ~3,500 yards in his senior season to get as many passing yards as Ragone, while his best season has been this one projected at ~2,700. Of course, we might could get a feel for if Ragone could do anything in the NFL by looking at him in our next 6 games.:pigfly: If he stinks it up, I'm all for looking at Young in '07.

I agree. Don't re-sign Carr. Play Ragone in '06, go 2-13. Reggie Bush and Mathis will do what they did this weekend and win you 2, maybe 3 games. Draft a mobile QB in the 7th or sign an undrafted one so the offense can get a feel for what it is like to play with one. If Ragone sucks after at least 8-10 games, put that guy in there. If he does good, your 2nd/3rd stringer has experience. Pick Vincent Young. Sit him on the sidelines for 8 games or so then play him. Sounds like a plan to me. IS IT WORKING NEW YORK GIANTS?

Won't have the chance to draft Vince...he's staying in school..PERIOD. Now stfu about it.
Half Astros, half Texans, half Bucs, half Rockets, half Yankees, half Cavs: If you read previous posts, and my signature, you would see that I am in support of picking him in 2007 smarts. Know what you're talking about. Till then, you stfu. He hasn't made a decision yet. Heisman trophies and national championships have been made to change minds. Just not Matt Leinart's.

I respect and love Vince Young too much to want to see him corrupted by our terrible offensive system. I don't want to teach him the "one step drop, no time to read the field, throw a quick slant or get knocked on your ***" Texans offensive system.

If not Young, Quinn is damn good too. But P-lease.

Young will be a quarterback in the NFL, and a damn good one too.

The new coaches we bring in after this year will help that. Unless our owner is a complete moron.

I think Ragone should get some playing time and see what he can do? What would it hurt, would we get blown out of games or lose our playoff spot?

The one step drop is only made for Fresno state Qb's that lock into their first read.

Matt Leinert. He's the real winner with the real NFL pedigree.

I want the Texans to succeed, so I don't want them to take Vince, no matter how much the state of Texas wants him here.

dont we have kliff kingsberry on our PS? i guess we should start him based on his stats alone...
Kingsbury has never been on the roster. At one points we had B.J. Symons from Texas Tech as a practice squad QB.

David Carr, Andre Johnson, Dominick Davis..........I thought last year they were on the verge of being the next big thing.........I thought this year was going to be their breakout year....

I honestly don't know what happened.......but there is no way I can fault Carr. He's done some stupid things this season, but aside from Peyton Manning, and Tom Brady, Every NFL QB has done some stupid things.......Favre, McNabb, Leftwich.........Get us an offensive line that works, stop looking at the wrong end of a problem, and maybe we can start winning some games.

..............just my 2

Ever have anything positive to say? Always hating on Carr and Carr only. Other players are at fault. I am not saying Carr hasn't made mistakes, but if you want to ride one person as the fall guy all of the time how about blaming Capers.

Well Said! I think most of the blame has to be on the coaching staff.:texans:

Matt Leinart is a good "COLLEGE" QB, but how many Heisman winners have went on to make a big flop in the NFL? Too many to name. Only time will tell if he will succeed at the NFL level.
But don't make the mistake of saying Vince Young is not a real winner. You would be very wrong to say so, he has done nothing but win, he has carried his team to victory in every big game he has been in since Mack let him lead his way. He is a REAL Winner and a great college QB. But he too still has to transition to the NFL, just as your boy Matt does, and a rookie QB is not the answer for this team IMO.
