One more win = AFC #1 Seed

Dont think i want to rest our starters regardless, especially as bad as they have looked. Want them to get in sync before the play-offs.

Agree, I am not a believer in resting starters. Historically that has never been a good strategy.

Let's hope next week is not a trap game

Trap game? Are you serious? Trap games are when one team is looking ahead. We're playing for 2 weeks rest for our starters, HFA, and an easier road to the Super Bowl. There's nothing about this game that indicates its a trap in any way. Plus, we're playing against one of the best running backs to ever play the game.

I really hope New England doesn't lose out and take the 4th seed (provided Baltimore wins one).

If I'm them I'd rather come here than go to Denver in the Divisional round.

Still, we can only control our own fate. Let's clinch on Sunday!

If we wrapped up HFA heading into the final game, guess what I would do?

Start Case Keenum at QB, Grimes at RB, Harris and Routt at CB, Keo at Safety, and basically let Andrew Luck have 7,000 yards and 12 TDs.

HFA. Rest your starters, no matter what history says you should or shouldn't do heading into the playoffs.

I haven't agreed with you in a long time GP, but I do here.

I hope that we win out. We need to play starters in the last week just to get them reps for the bye week. 2 weeks off is a little too much.

Good thing is that we will play #4-6 seed in our first game if we remain the #1 seed. So that's Baltimore, Indy, Cincy. We have a good shot against any of those opponents.

I think you may see some guys play in the final week, but guys like Arian, Andre, and JJo NEED the extra rest. We've been fortunate to have our big 3 healthy all year, but those guys don't even need to stretch for that game.

I would play Schaub for a series or 2 with the starting O-Line, but that's it.

Texans have to win here vs MIN. Our history @IND is you know scary bad.
MIN on road are 2-5 with wins
WK4 MIN20@DET13
WK15 MIN36@STL22
Big problem is Peterson is a mad man right now, he can not be stopped so our O needs to show up big. J.Allen very scary too.

Would've kept Wes Welker from wiping out his knee prior to the '09 playoffs.

If there is nothing to play for in week 17, the players will know it. And play like it. There's nothing to gain in terms of momentum. There's everything to lose in terms of a possible injury. The only move is to sit your key players.

Interestingly, the Colts may very well be playing for nothing in week 17. Should they win in KC next week, the Colts will have a wildcard spot sewn up. Very likely that Luck, Wayne, Freeney, and other key Colts would be wearing caps on the sideline. It would basically be a preseason game for both sides.

I think that's where the term "key" players comes into play. I said that I would play Schaub and our starting O-line, but only for a series or 2. Arian sits, OD probably sits, AJ sit on the offensive side. On defense, I would probably only sit JJo, Antonio, and JJ and play the rest of the starters for about 2 series as well. Certain guys need rest like Arian who has carried the ball way too much this year. It would be nice to see Tate get 20 carries and get into a rhythm heading into the playoffs.

I wouldn't mind watching Yates throw to Posey for the Colts game. Would be great to see where they're both at right now.

I'm really excited about Posey after this game.

Solid post. Good, good stuff in there.

Typically I would agree. If you do that though, 3 weeks will have gone by of those guys not playing at game speed. Does playing a half in week 17 and going 2 weeks without playing any different? I don't know, but 3 weeks seems like an eternity.

With our luck on injuries to key guys? I'd take guys like Schaub and AJ and Foster and Watt (and JJO and Manning and KJ) completely out of the last game.

I'd tell everyone else that we need zero heroes out there, so keep on your feet and treat this like it's your last preseason appearance before the reg season opener. Head on a swivel, stay on your feet, don't be a hero.

No, I get it. I'm just saying, if you sit the 1's in week 17 it will be 3 weeks (Dec. 23 to Jan. 12/13) of them not playing at game speed. That's a long layoff.

Gotta stop AP on running through us 1st, the way our run D has been I see him having a field day..

He's gonna get his yards and break off some big runs, so I don't mind if he has a good day yardage wise. The key is making sure Ponder doesn't get comfortable and hurt us. We need to jump out to a big early lead, and just take AD out of the game. We really need to treat this game like a playoff game.

i know we gotta beat the vikes and then we can get like 2 weeks + off till our real game the DIV game

i think if we do win we will rest alot of starters wk17 and heck even the colts might rest some people they wont be playing 4 much either other then if they wanna face the steelers or the Pats ...pick ur posion i guess

obvs in wk 17 i will prob let my starters play 4 1 qtr only really tho u just have to break it down player buy player if a player feels he needs to play 12 mins before the long lay off then i guess u play him

but either way the layers better know this Vikes game might be the last chance they get to play a full 4 qtrs

the vikes got other playmakers has well they want u to put 8 men in the box show that there other players get off

Even with our starters playing like they have been, offense and defense have been out of sorts the last 5 games. I think you continue to get them back on the right track. A broken fence cant get fixed if you dont get your hands dirty and work on it first hand.

To win in Indy.... wouldn't that be something to play for?

I don't know, just throwing that out there.

Another thing, one thing I think I've noticed about these guys since the Detroit game, is these guys play to win. I don't know if it's something external, like homefield & what not, it's something inside...... you can definitely see that in Jj Watt.

Just one more win and Texans are AFC #1 seed team. Just win baby!

Go Texans!!!

AFC South Champions!!!

Wow so having a better record than the rest of the AFC and having only lost only ONE game to an AFC opponent...you would think they'd just say vuggit and let the Texans have their due.

???? I am only stating the fact when the Texans win one more game in regular season, they will be AFC #1 seed for post season game/s. Where did you get an idea of the above highlighted sentence from my post?

A meaningless game in week 17 is not worth the chance of having a star injured. And T J, Tate, and Posey can still play to win.

Chances are everyone will play week 17. The only exception would be Jjo, depending on how he feels but he seems like the kinda guy who would rather play than stretch on the sidelines.

Most likely they won't play the whole game. But I think our depth is enough to make a good game out of it. Heck, most of them have been playing all year anyway.

Do you really want your players on the bench for 2 weeks?

this.

i would play our starters for the first half. we're not traditionally good after a bye if i remember correctly, and i would hate to see us come out rusty and overhyped because our starters havent seen the field in essentially 3 weeks. sure there's risk of injury, but kubiak would certainly call a safe, familiar game and one that can at least keep our starters active and moving forward.

So as has been pointed out, if we win, we clinch the #1 seed, but I believe it's also true that if Indy wins this weekend @ KC and Cincy loses @ Pittsburgh, the Colts are locked into the #5 seed, and would also have nothing to play for.

Would this create a tear in the space time continuum? Will the two teams simply play checkers or gin rummy to decide the winner? Or are we just assuming that the real reason the world will end on Friday is to prevent this exact scenario from ever taking place.

If the HFA is clinched on Sunday, whatever Kubes and Co. decide to do week 17 will be considered correct if they win in the divisional round, and wrong if they lose. Personally, I'll be pretty much happy if we're still having this discussion next week as opposed to collectively puckering about having to win in Indy.

Gotta stop AP on running through us 1st, the way our run D has been I see him having a field day..

I know that many fans "feel" the run defense is not doing well, but sometimes we need the facts to balance the feelings:

The Texans defense is #5 in run defense, and only 2.2 yards a game from being #2. They have faced three Top 10 rushing offenses, and half of their opponents have been in the top half of the league. They've only faced one Bottom 10 rushing team this season.

AP is going to get his. He is an amazing running back. But you have to realize that they don't pound him all game long. In fact, he has carried the ball 18 times or less in SEVEN games. And in two others only 21. That is only FIVE games where they kept handing him the rock.

Why, because you see all of these 40, 50, 60, 80 yard runs. But they tend to happen in the middle of the field, because he only has 11 TD's all season.

The formula is simple: Don't let him go for 75 yards multiple times in the game.

The longest run the Texans defense has given up all season? 28 yards.

I worry more about Ponder going Henne- er, Brady on our secondary.
