Veteran Leadership

You always hear coaches talking about veteran leadership, but I think I finally understood what it meant last night. I think the Texans came out last night 'ready to play', but TE Mark Bruener took us to a new level. Veteran leadership. When the TE who is the blocking tight end (so we are lead to believe) makes a big catch (26 yards) and REFUSES to go down, it amps the whole team ... the whole stadium. Veteran leadership.

And what did Bruener say about his motivating play. "David did an outstanding check at the line of scrimmage to get me open."

Veteran Leadership

Not only that catch & run, but the hustle to stay in the play and come up with Hollings fumble on the screen pass. That's something the coaches can run over & over in the film room to teach players how to hustle until the whistles blows. Leadership by example is the best kind.

Yeah, those were two great plays by Bruener. The Texans have done a great job of bringing in veterans to this expansion team.

The expansion draft brought Aaron Glenn, Seth Payne, Gary Walker, Jamie Sharper, and Marcus Coleman.

Free agency and a trade brought in Kailee Wong, Steve McKinney, Jay Foreman, Eric Brown, Zach Weigert, Todd Wade and Mark Bruener.

That is pretty good veteran leadership for a third year team.

Nice post on Mark Bruener guys. Leadership and Character, this guy has both and will be a tremendous asset to our team, evident thus far with his play last night.
