A Positive Thread

GP

Go Texans!
I just wanted to say this: It's not the end of the world. And if you'll read onward, I'll show you how we can keep things in perspective.

I had a friend in high school who was a jerk deluxe when it came to sports. When the Oilers choked, he was there to rag me for it. We all graduate, move on in life, and only through Facebook did a lot of us reconnect recently. I accepted his friend request, had a few positive chats with him from time to time. And then last night happened.

I had made a post that this was a big game and I was excited to see how it developed. Had lots of positive comments from friends. Except the old high school classmate. He starts ragging me out on there. Badly. He's throwing out references to the Oilers, just being a real *******. So I started to say "You know, Brian...you were an ASS in high school and now you're a grown man and doing the same thing. You're a jerk, so it looks like some things never change." I deleted it as soon as I posted it. And then I un-friended him. Erased him. Gone.

I don't have time for insecure people to make my life miserable. I'm not going to give the keys to my car to *******s and then wonder why I have tire marks across my chest.

This goes for the sports media, too, who are really nothing more than people like this Brian guy I un-friended on Facebook. The thing they all have in common is that they talk big stuff about the hot teams, the hot players, and they think they're geniuses by stating the obvious. They are doing nothing more than cosigning on whatever is WINNING at the moment, so it makes them look like they are in-the-know. In relation to that, they smirk and jeer and make fun of teams that haven't gotten over the top yet. Because it's easy to do at the time.

So screw them. Why should I care what they think? Why should any of you care? The Jim Romes and the Skip Baylesses of the media world are really petty, small people when you boil it all down to its base element. And anybody who is fans of those guys? They're no better.

I had my boss trying to talk to me this morning about what happened last night. Bless his heart, he meant well and all...but he was so wrong on so many levels about what plagued this team last night. I didn't even have it in me to try and tell him how he was wrong and here's what's really going on. Why waste my time? Great guy, meant well, just not accurate in his assessment.

Nobody is going to know our team like WE know our team. NOBODY. Not even the media guys who get paid to know the 32 NFL teams every year. So why worry about it? Want to duck the shows this week? Probably a great idea, seeing as how all they ever do is nut hug the week's winners and lambast the week's losers. Today's winner will be tomorrow's loser. All 32 teams get ragged the week after getting manhandled on Sunday.

I did not expect us to be 11-1 when we reached the Patriots game. I don't think anybody had us at 11-1 at this point. Who here had us with only ONE loss going into the 13th game of our 16 game season???

So we have 3 games left. Our guys have pride. They played a team who had 3 losses, you think that team with 3 losses let the 3 losses get them down to the point they couldn't beat us on MNF? No. So now we've got 2 losses, and that means they have to really fight the rest of the way. Good for them. Staying hungry is what you need.

What if we had gone 15-1, then out in our first game of the playoffs??? What good does that win streak in the reg season matter?

Let's hope the team regroups, has a soul check, and wins out the rest of the year.

Then the games in Reliant will be a whole different thing.

I can't sit here and hang my head and think that we're doomed because Tom Brady did to us what he has done to 20 other NFL teams, in December, at his house. Some things are just going to happen. That was one of them.

If you have negative friends or you listen to negative shows, stop doing it immediately. It's of no use to you. It really, truly isn't. It's not avoiding the ugly truth. So don't tell me I'm just pie-in-the-sky about this stuff. I'm saying that those jerk offs would clown you if your mother died. They'd be there at the grave site heckling you. Because that's what they are: *******s with their only purpose in life being to make other people's lives miserable. They get off on it, so don't let them. You owe it to yourself. A wise man once said, "Some things in life are just not even worthy of a response."

Choose wisely who you listen to. Drop 'em like dead weight, even when our team does well and they talk good about us. You know who they are: They're there to turn on us the second things go badly for us. They're sports whores. Period.

With all our warts, I still love this team. And love 'em more than the i did the Oilers, and I had a strong love for that old team. This team is 11-2, and we are not finished by far.

"Sports-whores." I like it. :vincepalm:

It's true, right?

All I am reading is how Skip Bayless this and Jim Rome that...as if THOSE guys are somehow the final word on our team?

Furthermore, the Patriots were the safe pick. 20 straight games in December they've won there. Who WOULD pick against that? Cris Carter did. Schefter also picked us. I consider them to be knowledgable about football.

Carter and Schefter, and others too, they thought we had a chance. No sports media entity picked Patriots straight across the board.

Then the game happens, it fell the way it was likely to fall...so what. It happens. Any other NFL team walking into Foxboro in December is going to probably get lit up. Doesn't keep the Patriots from losing in the Super Bowl, though. Doesn't mean Brady can come into a hostile Reliant stadium in the AFCC and get it done.

If we have to go back to Foxboro for the AFCC game, yeah we're screwed. Such is life. No need in acting like we're complete losers over that stuff. It'd happen to many, many teams. We're playing the Michael Jordan of the NFL, IMO. He's a God in the NFL, it just happens. We beat them before, we can do it again. In Reliant.

Yes, it's completely true; but, it pains me to see that we got SMOKED by Brady AND Rodgers. It is readily apparent that we cannot deal with elite QBs, and I'm not so sure we'd beat Brady at home in a meaningful game either. A game 16 when they have already clinched, yeah. A game 3 when they are pacing themselves, yeah. A PLAYOFF GAME. Well, I hope so, but I got a feeling I need to wake up and smell the dog pile.

I started this thread because I did my pissing and moaning in the Gameday thread. Best to get the poison out during the game day thread and then use the week ahead of us to get our minds right and move on.

We went 1-0 for 11 weeks. We went 0-2 for two weeks.

My only worry is the problem we're having between Kubiak and Tate. I think there's a huge wedge of division there, and I think it's affecting the locker room. I think it's affecting them all. Foster, IMO, is running well when things go good and he's sort of gearing down when we're not doing good. Kubiak would be better served to play all 3 RBs and stick with guys who have a hot hand...then yank them when the defense figures that guy out. But Kubiak is pissed off at Tate...IMO, Kubiak is losing the plot a bit here.

We need all hands on deck, and he's trying to make some sort of Moral To The Story statement. As if our future is solely based on making sure everyone knows who's boss 24/7.

This thing with Tate is bad mojo. He wants to prove himself, but yet he might be wanting out of Houston, and I think it's affecting the team. There is zero chance Kubiak is that reluctant to run Tate unless there's bad mojo going on between them all.

Like you said, despite this awful game, we still control our own destiny. as if this means we can't sweep the Colts. Or beat a One dimensional Vikings team. Two awful losses but at the end of the day, we have only two losses. Thats less than anybody not in Atlanta. So, its not the end of the world. Doesn't mean we're not a good team. Just means we have a ways to go and a lesson to learn.

A regular season L means nothing.

Scratch that. As long as you make the playoffs a regular season L means nothing. It means an awful lot if you miss by one game. Hello Jets game in week one of 2009 against the Sanchize. Yeah, I'm talking to you.

Think the Pats would switch Ls in 2007 from the 1st Pats-Giants game in week 17 to the Super Bowl? 18-1 looks so much better when it comes with a shiny ring.

I'm still on board that we can win the whole thing. I'd rather lose this one and win a rematch in January than the reverse. I think beating them twice would have been very difficult. I think this team has moved past the letting teams get into their heads. We exorcised that demon with the throttling of the Ravens.

1-0 each week for the next 6 games.

You guys have nothing to hang your heads about. It's one game, and fairly meaningless in the grand scheme of the NFL. You guys still have the #1 seed. Take care of business the rest of the way, and in all likelihood, we'll have to come to your place in January.

You guys have a great team. Your front seven is possibly the best in football. You have a great RB and WR. Your QB spit the bit last night, but you can hope that he learns from his poor performance. Coach 'em up and send them out there next Sunday.

The road to the super Bowl still goes thru you folks.

Giants beat the Patriots in the biggest game of the year, and it was not really that exciting of a game. It was down and dirty, slow going type of pace.

Tom Brady at Foxboro, in December, it's just a done deal.

Tom Brady, in Reliant stadium, it's not a done deal. The fans, the Texans ready for revenge, the Patriots not knowing how they can match the blowout win from the reg season. The pressure cooker switches over to the Patriots at that point.

That's how sports works. Every team is flawed, it's just that sometimes you have other factors going on that influence your team's ability to minimize those flaws.

I was pissed too. Trust me. When we were down 21-0, I was seething mad. Into the second half, resigned to the inevitable. Today, remembering that IN THE SPORTS WORLD there are times when you were going to lose no matter what, and there are times when nobody in the world can stop MY team either.

Vikes and Colts. Three games. I prefer to win out, get HFA. Worst case scenario, though: We win 2 out of 3, get a first round bye via tie breaker over Ravens and Broncos (if those team stay at 3 losses each).

You were actually my inspiration for this thread.

See, we're so accustomed to having TROLLS from the Jags and Titans and Cowboys come over here and act like Gronked to us...that we get to the point that we can't stand anything BUT to be negative. As if we did this to ourself, so let's yell in loud voices and throw things. LOL.

But yet what you've done is shared with us what you, a VERY knowledgable Patriots fan, think of our team. Perspective is a mighty thing.

I would love for us to rematch the Patriots in the AFCC. And then I would love for us to rematch the Packers in the SB. It would be fitting for us to revenge those two reg season losses to those two teams.

Sometimes in sports, things are just fated. I really believe that. Things are going to happen and that's what makes it the best memory: When things lined up and your team pulled it off and won it all. We have to have a talented team, which we do. We have to execute, which we normally do. But sometimes it's not in the cards no matter what. So live life, accept it. Enjoy the ride.

I really liked the classy behavior of the Patriots last night. They dog the teams they know are punks. They treated us, everywhere but the scoreboard, with dignity and peer-to-peer acceptance. We were just too busy being pissed off to notice it.

Ravens have 4 Ls now.

Oopsie. Thank you for that correction!

So really it's the Broncos and Patriots, with 3 losses each, who are in a battle for the first round bye and HFA throughout.

Have those two teams won their final three games yet? Nope. And we haven't either.

Coming down to the wire is what the NFL is all about. We have a great chance if the Texans players will just regroup and stay the course.

This is new territory for them: Winning HFA for the playoffs. First time we have ever had that chance, folks. It's uncharted waters for those guys. All of 'em.

Here is something to add to the positive thread.

In 2010, the 9-2 New York jets were feeling good and confident. They had been winning and felt they were ready to test themselves against the best in the league. On December 6th, 2010 they entered Foxborough to play the 9-2 New England Patriots. They were dreaming of a division title, HFA throughout the playoffs, and the Superbowl. They were decimated 45-3 in a rather humiliating fashion. Many in the media called them overrated, not quite ready for prime time, etc. Many in the media simply wrote them off. They went 2-2 in the final four and earned a playoff berth.

On January 16th, the New York Jets returned to Gillette Stadium for the first time since the December 6th drubbing. Almost everyone in the media predicted an easy Patriot victory. Instead, the Jets played hard, rattled Tom Brady, and defeated the Patriots 28-21.

The Jets took what happened in December and learned from their mistakes. They stopped shooting themselves in the foot and played hard nosed football. They didn't let the moment get to them and they avenged their earlier loss to go to the AFC championship game.

The Jets season was not lost on that day and neither is the Texans.

Well said. With great respect, I say I'd rather not face you guys again. Watt would turn Brady into a pile of goo... like something out of the Walking Dead.

Up here, it's all "Manning's the MVP". I'd love to give him Manning-Face one more time. His brother too.

I'm all set with Houston. Give me Denver, just to see Manningface.

Yeah, let's give the whole Manning family Manning-face.

I wouldn't say this in "the real world," but in "the sports world," Manning is one of those few guys I'd like to see hung by his nuts and set on fire. :kitten: Little resentment from past beatings there... :toropalm:

I keep forgetting this is a positive thread. Hey, didn't we sweep the Tinbreads?

The positive I think we need to take away from this is we're good enough to win.

Might not have looked it last night, but think about the reasons were stating as to why we lost. Most of it is mental & mental can be fixed.

We probably thought we were ready for the Pats, their fast pace, Brady's quick snaps.... & we weren't. Those 11 guys will know next time.

Schaub made mental mistakes, didn't take what the defense gave him... he'll do better next time.

Kubiak was stubbornly bland... I have to think things will be different in the play-offs. Judging by the way he had Tj play last year vs Baltimore compared to the way he had him play in the regular season, I think we'll have the full offensive play-book at our disposal.

We lost, but we've got a good bunch of guys in the locker room & they'll get it done.

One of the things I was "worried" about was the Texans clinching the division and HFA too quickly and not playing meaningful games at the end of the year. Then after a bye week not being able to turn it back on.

Now they have to win out to ensure HFA and make sure that if they get to play the Pats again, its in Reliant.

Plus, this team is still learning how to play in big games. I would much rather they get schooled in the regular season than roll into they playoffs and be one and done.

You know what pains me? **** like this:

We better beat the Colts next Sunday AND in their house in the last game. Squash all hope that they are about to be atop the division once again.

Yeah, if we lose this week, I think we're a wild card. That would be so disgusting you would have to fire gary, but it wouldn't happen. But his is a positive thread so I'll cut that out. I think the Colts are in for a bad afternoon.

Yeah, if we lose this week, I think we're a wild card. That would be so disgusting you would have to fire gary, but it wouldn't happen.

It would also usher in a whole new decade of insufferable colts fan boys. Please, all things holy, don't let that happen.

Id might respect the pats if there were as many people as nice as you..most pat fans i know are so sue to winning they are cocky and arrogant..glad its not every fan..

Its just really hard for me to be positive right now. This is DECEMBER! When is the last time we have had a real solid win? October??? I am just afraid we peaked already. We are REGRESSING, not progressing like we should be heading into the playoffs.

The positive I guess is we can win out and get that homefield and get Brady in our house. But this season is going to go downhill quickly if we dont play a complete game here soon.

You mean Colt-whores.

I was just going to say that I bet we take this out on Indy quite cruelly Sunday. :whip:

It would also usher in a whole new decade of insufferable colts fan boys. Please, all things holy, don't let that happen.

If you come out like that agiasnt us you will be wild card, luck is very mobile... texans dont do well vs mobile qbs..I dont know what yoru coaches were thinking last night... brady tears up man coverage and blitzes...they did both so much and they shocked they lost...

I don't want this to turn into a Texans-vs-Colts thread, but let me just say that in spite of your team doing fairly well this season...you don't have the horses to beat us.

If I can sit here and say "Look, we don't have the horses to run with the Patriots," and then I say "Look, the Colts don't have it in them to stay up with us," then you can see I'm not being a homer on this issue.

Yes, if we play down to the competition...we can lose to the Colts.

I just don't see it happening. The worst thing that could have happened to the Colts was for the Texans to get blasted in a blowout the week before our game with them. Because the Texans, while they're not full-blown dynasty mode like the Patriots...the Texans still have the talent and the experience to come back from a bad loss and set things straight.

I think your best chance is that final game in your stadium. There is going to be some really, REALLY pissed off Texans players playing in Reliant vs your Colts. Luck is good, don't get me wrong. Wayne can do damage, as does Andre Johnson, the two guys are all-world WRs, IMO. But I think you guys run into a buzz saw like we just did vs Patriots. Just my hunch, and my hunch all season long was that we'd get shellacked by the Patriots. So my hunch is pretty accurate thus far.

I told lots of my coworkers and friends to keep there heads up it's not over yet lots of football left and we control out destiny. IF we can beat the Colts this Sunday it will help us forget about the poor lame emabrrasing game that just happen.

IF we can get a little help from the 49ers to beat the Patriots and get the Ravens to beat the Broncos this weekend we'd be back in business.

Rep your way for the avatar pic, btw.

Ask Baltimore how the Texans play after getting humiliated...

end of line....

GP or any Texan fan going down should read that thread.

It's almost like Patriot fans have more faith in this team than a lot of us do.

It's not much to me. As you said GP, the players on this team have a TON of pride. They are stewing and pissed off right now, let the media beat them up, point, and laugh. NFL history shows that anything can happen in the playoffs.

Remember the Colts? They couldn't stop the run if your running back was a 80 year old lady in the regular season. That changed in the in the playoffs. Lets hope JJo will be ready to go. Lets hope Foster will have his same playoff nastiness he had last year. Lets hope these guys come to play then.

I think the colts can come in here and win.

That said I expect us to win this next game. I think well lose to the Vikings and split with the colts.

I think the colts can come in here and win.

I'm not seeing it. There are good teams out there, then there's the Colts. There is nothing good about the Colts except Luck.

The Colts make way too many mistakes, they're not the Patriots. The Colts to us, is like us to the Patriots, it's that wide.

True, we have issues on the back end, our DL, LBs, OL, TE... so it might be another high-scoring OT affair. But they can't beat us.

Brady didn't beat us. Rogers didn't beat us. The Pats & the Packers beat us. Two veteran clubs who we've been trying to catch up to. & these Colts aren't the Colts we've been chasing.

hmmm, a positive ... i think i can find one. 11-2, with wins over 2 of the other 3 division leaders. we're still at the top of the afc and in control of home field throughout, with 3 very winnable games left. not only for this year, but the future looks even brighter when you glance at our "how assembled" thread - 90% of our roster has been here 4 years or less.

last night was embarrassing enough that i stopped watching before it was over for the first time in years, but today brings clarity and the reminder that we're on top and yet continuing to rise. the sky hasnt landed yet.

TK, we've shown that we are vulnerable from game number 1.

Go back and look at the reaction to that game. Lots of people were not happy with the way we played there.

We've let teams that are seemingly not on our level have hope late in games all year. Eventually that kind of stuff catches up with you. I don't care what the colts have done against other teams. We've routinely had players have big games against us. Guys that we're down and out seem to come out of their funk against us.

I won't be watching the game, but I hope and think we will win. But I'm not overly-confident based on the way we play.

This next game is my watershed game.

We lose this one at home, then it's over.

We win it, then I won't have to worry about anything but the rematch with Patriots in the AFCC game.

My positive attitude will either be renewed or taken off the shelf and put in the attic next Sunday when that game is over. I expected a loss to the Patriots. I do not expect a loss from the Colts in our own stadium.

So everyone should know that I am not being a blind sunshine pumper here. I can burn **** down with the best of 'em around here.
