I've been a fan of the Rams for a long time now, and TRUST ME, you do NOT want a cancer like Mike Martz as your head coach.
He was okay as an offensive coordinator, but he stinks as a head coach. He's fired two special teams coaches to take the blame for lousy special teams play since he took over as head coach. The last one went to Buffalo where last year they had the number one ranked special teams.
Mike Martz is the guy who went to Arizona and against one of the worst run-defenses in the country last year, not only chose to not run the ball at all, didn't even have Steven Jackson suit up for the game. The result is that they got blown out in a humiliating fashion.
Mike Martz is a guy who had a chance to beat the Panthers and go to the NFC title game in 2003. They needed a field goal to tie the game and take it to overtime, or a touchdown to win it. With over 40 seconds left and within FG range, they opted to take a KNEE instead of trying to get the touchdown. The result is that they lost the game in double overtime, and the Panthers went to the Superbowl.
Mike Martz is a guy who inherited a Superbowl team, and slowly unraveled and flushed away the most talented offense in the NFL until they became an extremely mediocre NFC team.
This is a guy who opened up this season with a loss to the 49ers. Then, without him coaching and with Joe Vitt in charge, they became competant enough to run ruckshot all over a good Jaguars team.
The only thing Mike Martz has done as a head coach is make his team steadily worse every single year. There's a reason that all of St. Louis wants to see him kicked out the door, and it's precisely the reason why I will cry long and hard if the Texans take him as their new head coach.
