Why was Bradie James starting? Sharpton & Dobbins looked like the most Dynamic duo we've had since Cushing got hurt. Dobbins looks like the man compared to James.

Is Wade just being loyal to his guy?

James? What about Barwin, did we trade him or something. Guy is nonexistent.

I joked we could sign him cheaper after the first 8 games, he'll now I don't know why we'd keep him.

We need a pass rush. Only one that gets to the QB is Watt.

I saw Barwin look pretty good (better than I would have thought) covering a guy once. Otherwise, yeah, cut 'im, LOL.

Barwin was in coverage a bunch tonight...

But yeah...he needs to be replaced...

Which was the problem. Can't put Barwin 1-on-1 with a runningback. Brady we'll just see it and go straight at that.

To be fair, that play resulted in an incompletion.

Defense has to mix up their play calls. Sometimes you are going to be in unfavorable match ups. It's a guessing/prediction game and sometimes you guess right while other times you guess wrong.

But I'm actually ok with the defense.

They were missing key players on that side of the ball. They've been hit hard with injuries. Offense is mostly healthy. Defense was going up against one if the great qb's of all time.

If you'd have told me before the game that the offense was not going to do anything and keep putting the defense out on the field, I would have expected the patriots to burn them.

I'm with you. The D did stop the Pats on 3 straight possessions in the 2nd quarter, all on 3 and outs. The offense actually moved the ball and gave the D a chance to rest, but they couldn't put a point on the board. You gotta give the D help by keeping Brady off the field and scoring some.

Eh, at the same time the defense has to help out the offense and not put them in that situation. Down 21 and the playbook shrinks quite a bit. So I wouldn't say the defense gets a pass. They got a bit better at one point but putting the team in that situation was a killer when playing the Patriots. You do that against Belichek and chances are you aren't getting out of that hole.

As for missing key personnel, I really didn't see any missing except for the obvious Cushing. You adjust, adapt and next man steps up. So I never use the injuries excuse. Reed was missing but his play has been missing most of the year. McCain was missing and his play has been missing most of the year. Other than that we had what? Alan Ball? Just like the Steelers have been missing Harrison and Polamalu most of the year. Has it mattered? Nope. Still number one defense. You just got to adjust to the personnel.

Every facet dropped the ball last night. And this dire need to run man to man is killing us against quarterbacks that are top tier. Need a mixture in there. Make them second guess. Make them pause trying to read the defense. Right now it's quite easy for them to dissect this defense. Hopefully some changes are made to adjust but I will wait to see. We didn't make them after the Packers, Henne or Rodgers got a hold of this secondary so not sure if we will now.

Hernandez wasn't even covered for the 2nd TD. Sharpton completely blew coverage <again> giving the Pats an easy TD. Manning ended up trying to cover him but it was clearly Sharpton's responsibility. Sharpton had quite a few bad plays in coverage. James just doesn't have the ability to cover. That position is lost this season. Dobbins as the best ML is a problem but there are no better options. I'd start Ruud & Dobbins but I doubt that would be much better than James & Sharpton.

No player on defense played a great game. Not even Watt. It was a garbage performance by the secondary. Penalties and missed assignments were abundant. LBs looked silly in coverage and didn't get pressure. The DL couldn't get negative plays and failed to tip passes. 42 points.

As bad as Kubiak's play calling was at times last night, Phillips matched him. Nothing worked. Sure it was Brady but this wasn't the first time. 3 of the last 4 games were embarassing defensively. Let's hope he gets the defense turned around soon or it could be a long offseason.

Really? 42 points, and the D was NOT our problem?

Not the only problem, sure, I agree. But the D gave up 42 points. They were a huge problem.
How many times was the offense 3 and out, 3 and out, etc ? The best defense in the league gives up points against Brady, but when they are left on the field as long as the Texans were they will give up a ton of points. The D did struggle early, but found itself, however Schaub and Co never got their act together.

How many times did we allow them to convert on 3rd and long in the first quarter? Everytime?

I just said we struggled early, but then got our act together on defense. On the other hand the offense never woke-up all night long.

Part of the problem? Sure but a majority of the problem? I dont really think so.

At the start of the game there were some mismatches and blown assignments but there was also a fumble that simply wasnt recovered, a Schaub INT, a long run back by the pats and a bull**** PI call on a 3rd and 10 that gave the Pats a 26+ yard gain and set them up to score. The offense couldnt get it done and the amount of time they left the D on the field is what put us at risk, couple that with the fact that our D turned it around in the middle of the game and we didnt make a run at it. Our run game was less than impressive, the passing game wasnt around and I think that all ties into the O line.

Offense sucked too, as did ST. We looked bad in all facets of the game.

However, the D was atrocious. 1 sack. 1 garbage time pick. 0 FR. And for all your complaining about the offense not being on the field long enough, if I did the math right (and the numbers on SI are accurate) the Pats only possessed the ball for 30.6 minutes, while the Texans had the ball for 28.8. Negligible. The Pats scored TDs on their first 3 drives, on 7, 6, and 8 play drives. That is NOT acceptable defense.

This game was always going to require a complete effort in all areas. We failed in all 3 areas. Some worse than others, but all 3 were piss poor last night. The end.

At least we'll get to see Wade's tweeting that he wants to face the Pats again. I guess there's no Patriots heads mounted on the wall after this game.

That's because it takes Brady .005 seconds to huddle, call an audible, throw a pass for 30 yards against us and huddle again, while it takes us the full 40 seconds even if we are losing by 3 TDs. :kubepalm:

I swear, Kubiak can go 3 and out and burn 5 minutes off the clock.

Do you think it is principally the right side with Jones @ guard and Harris/Newton @ tackle, or is it the OLine in general ? I was too busy watching the ball to pay that much attention to particular OLine players, but there was lots of criticism of Jones though I did notice he actually pancaked Wilfork on one play.

I think the right side is hurting us pretty bad although I think Brown did give up a sack early in the game which has been out of character for him. It did seem that our running game had a period of time where it was all to the left. Foster avg 3.1 ypc which is 1.5-2.0 less than last year. Everyone was pointing to Foster's diet as the problem to his runs at the start of the year but I think it might be more issue up front. Couple that with multiple times that Schaub didnt have much time, pressure was on him and that may be part of the reason that we didnt have enough time to exploit a rookie on AJ

But that didn't happen. Everybody is complaining that Kubiak didn't adjust to the score. He kept running the ball. Shaub threw the ball 32 times, we ran the ball 29 times.

Our play-book got cropped before the game. Not having Graham, that had something to do with it, but what happened to our bootleg?

They have eight men in the box all day, we couldn't get receivers open?

I don't think the D was a problem They couldn't run the ball until late in the game (when we quit). They gave up 21 early, but they made up for it going into the 3rd Qtr

Our offense never showed up.

You can't take points off the board & we don't have an '85 Bears defense. If our team could have scored in the 2nd & 3rd Qtrs, the Patriots don't get the ball to put up another 3 TDs.

The D had issues, but you can tell they were there, they showed up, traded punches & lost. The offense went into the fetal position after getting smacked like bichus.

the defense gave the offense a chance to somewhat get back in the game in the first half with the 4 straight 3 and outs and the offense didn't do **** with it.

go into the half down 21-7 could have given us some momentum moving forward.

i wouldn't be surprised if the defense gave up in the 2nd half because they knew the offense wasn't going to bring them back.

you have to keep brady off the field.

one way is 3rd down defense and another way is long time-eating drives.

It wasn't Sharpton.

Watch the replay and you should see Dobbins, Quin, then James were waving for somebody to go out there to cover Hernandez. The instruction wasn't clear as Manning and Sharpton were asking each other who's it going to be.

Brady just had the ball quick-snapped.

I put this one on James if he's supposed to be the signal caller.

The defense also stopped the Pats on two short drives early in the second half (one went for 15 yards, the other netted zero for the Pats.)

The offense went 3 and out both times.
