How the chips will fall

Let us say we make it to Number 1 in the draft and we have kept Carr (or even traded him for a (2nd and third rounder) and are using Ragone or Banks. Do we take the first QB with our pick, or even if we keep Carr take a QB? Do we trade down to pick up more picks in a deep O-line Draft? or take our number one to get the best 1 player for the oline. What would you do?

Your title is very misleading. You made it sound like you were giving your opinion on how the chips would fall as opposed to asking stupid questions that are and have been debated for quite some time. :deadhorse

Actually.. I forgot to include a word. It was to be label 'How WILL the chips fall'.

Btw- if you think those were stupid questions, maybe you need to check yourself back to a school of some sort. Asking people for what they would do if they are GM on a Message Board is the entire point of the message board. If you cant take people expressing thier oponions like your misguided one, then what have you. :drool:

There are a number of threads which discuss many of the topics you have raised. Often one topic threads garner more responses.
 
King is kind of annoying but he does seem to know a couple things about the NFL (when he isn't touting his mancrush Tom Brady). I found an interesting caption about D'Brick in his draft day top 10

3. D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Sr., T, 6'5", 298, Virginia
As athletic as any left tackle in the NFL; the Texans love him.

Now this might not be any big surprise, since a franchise LT would be loved by a lot of teams (And they conceivably need more OL help than any other team). But does this really mean that much?

It means about as much as any other pre draft info, and that's basically zilch. I have a feeling if Ferguson were to tear his ACL in a bowl game that the Texans love for him would diminish slightly. As would the love of several other teams picking high in the draft. Keep in mind there were indications last year that the Texans were interested in DJ and Barron and Willamson, etc , but we all saw how that turned out.
 
Unless you have a franchise QB, you dont pass one up.

If Carr is gone, which i hope he is not, you must take Lienart.

Except that is the rule that got us Carr in the 1st place. It is pretty clear in hindsight that the classic building block guys--QB (Carr, Harrington), RB (Green, Duckett), WR (Stallworth, Lelie) and LT (Williams, McKinnie). Thinking outside the box and going with Peppers or Freeney might very well have worked out better.

Good point. But going with that rule gets people Peyton and Eli Manning, Vick, Palmer, Aikman, Elway, Bradshaw, McNabb, Archie Manning.

You can risk missing out on the next Bradshaw, because you thought player X was better.

If you dont have a franchise QB, you must take a shot.

Yes, but we have one. We also have a top RB number wise, and a Pro-Bowler WR.

Name one top OL on our team that can't be upgraded.

We only have 3 players who could start on most of the teams. Aj, Dunta and Gary Walker. Everyone else could be upgraded. Carr isn't a franchise QB until he proves it on the field....He is only a Franchise QB on potential...and potential means you haven't done it yet.

true, but that potential will stop the notion of a #1 draft pick QB. He is our franchise player, and has not had a full chance to prove himself.

Gary Walker could start for some teams, but not every team. He is getting up there in age and has injury concerns. Also, up until this year, he had been VERY incosisstent.

In order to see what Carr is we have to give him a fair chance to prove himself. giving him an O-line is the way to really see what he can do. Putting Leinart in this system is simply not going to work. No matter how good he might be, he is gonna be running for lis life behind our Swiss Cheese Offenive Line(Or brie). The prudent move is to draft a stud LT and give Carr some psychlogical relief. If next December or so he STILL cannot do much, then we can entertain the idea of a new franchise QB. But in my opinion it is a mistake to do so before we strenghen our Line.

Did we trade and get a new rb that I am not aware of? Because once we get R Bush, the whole game will open up and take allot of heat off the O-Line. I remember a dismal team in Dallas that couldnt win with a pot of gold till they drafted a rb named E Smith. Then all of a sudden it took the heat off of a fully sacked QB and the whole offense opened up......

We can't draft any other way than Reggie Bush and keep Carr.....

All I said was he wasn't a franchise quarterback at this point in his career. I never said he won't be around next year. It's time we brought in a QB to push Carr or replace Carr (let the best Man win). Handing out starting positions according to paycheck draft position/potential doesn't work. He was a Franchise QB 4 years ago. Now he is just another guy fighting for his job.

In this senario, Dime said that we have benched, or traded Carr, and are using Banks, and Ragu.
 
I think if nothing else we should have LEARNED our lesson. You draft LINEMAN FIRST. Defensive or Offensive. They are the units on the field that require the most time to develop chemistry.

Though this is hindsight it makes me wonder if we should have not drafted Julius Peppers instead....

We should have...but the draft isn't as simple as that. You take the highest rated talent at the top (top 5 picks) and draft for needs later. I bet Carr may have been the highest rated QB but not the highest rated football player that year.
