Shayne Graham

BUENO!
There's a reason he was available. Still he wouldn't be the first kicker to ever get iced like that. Hopefully Bullock comes through for us next season and we can address the position on a more permanent basis.

That End of Regulation FG attempt was terrible. Not giving me much confidence heading into the final stretch of our season.

Much less where 3 points in the playoffs are huge. It almost cost us a game today & probably will at some point this season. Hopefully not in the playoffs, but odds are it will be.

Lets not put it all on him.

Andre made a huge play.

Kubiak gets the ball and runs it twice, he pretty much settled for a 40 yard FG, it ends up being a 42 yard attempt which he drills...if only the team didn't false start...

47 yard kick now that is easily missable. I think you need to K.Y.P, Know Your Personnel, Graham isn't one of the best kickers in the NFL. Those guys would have drilled it either way...so you should have tried to get as close as possible.

That's besides the point. He's a liability, and he can't be relied upon in big games in the playoffs. You have to try and give someone else a chance. It's gone on far too long, I hope he's replaced soon.

I'd agree with you but there simply aren't kickers available in FA right now that can hit every 50 yarder and kick the ball through the EZ on kickoffs. Graham unfortunately is the best option we have.

Well there are not a lot of kickers in the NFL that can consistently drill kicks in the 50 yard range.

Bullock could make a tremendous impact on special teams next year if he is what we think he is. Better field position, threat of long field goals, did I mention better field position? Also, better field position.

i dont think thats bullocks game either, hes a under pressure, clutch, consistency guy. not a monster leg guy..

That's true.

I just hope it doesn't come down to special teams in a big game. It's the biggest glaring weakness of this team.

People said he used to kick plenty of touchbacks while at A&M
Positives: Accurate field-goal kicker with adequate leg strength. Displays the ability to kick in all kinds of weather, dependable and comes up with big field goals. Gets good lift, as the ball immediately comes off his foot, and is able to get hang time on kickoffs.

Negatives: Average leg strength and does not drive kickoffs through the end zone. Career-long field goal is 52 yards.

i was never for graham over this kid.. bullock missed one kick and never got a shot to kick another deep FG. graham kick a few 50 + yarders through and that was that.. most were high on bullocks consistency and ability to be clutch. the texans were willing to live with the fact that he didnt have a monster leg.. kubes stashed him on IR..

So many beastly rookie kickers this year, and we picked the chubby one that got a booboo in the preseason. :kubepalm:

There's a reason the Texans brought in Kickers last week for tryouts too .....

After he missed that first one , at the end of the first half , I kept telling myself that would come back to bite them in the ass ....

Then Caldwell false starts .... and I think to myself again , wow thats gonna cost them the game.

Cant put it all on Graham , Schaub's INT's , Fosters fumble , the defense giving up big plays on 3rd down on multiple occasions ..... but Graham hasnt been very good at all at any point this season ... no depth on kickoffs , poor range on FG's ..... they really better solve that issue before playoff time or ... that may be the difference between a Lombardi Trophy and losing a home game.

Go Texans!
Can't see Kubiak letting the K go unless he just blows kick after kick.

Rackers shouldn't have mouthed off when he went to Washington, or he might be on a short list if we let our K go.

Still, there would be no way we'd cut Graham right now. He's pretty shaky, though. You can see it all over him. He's got that Shankville look to him.

I thought the whole point with stashing Bullock on IR with an "injury" was to go with the veteran. I'd rather have the stronger leg right now. Graham can't be used for anything over 50 based on us punting from the 36.

Funky
graham was in the bottom half of the league in terms of field goal percentage before today, i'm not sure why anyone thought he was good to begin with. as i said elsewhere - average kicker, weak leg, and has been mostly unemployed the last 2 years. we needed an upgrade before today, and shanking a potential game winner so badly just reinforces that.

Bullock had a legit injury ... it wasnt an IR stash. A kicker with a bad groin cant kick ....

Whats weird is that Graham looked pretty solid in preseason and the first week or two of the season .... Other than a lack of depth on kickoffs but now he looks like he's got a case of the yips.

He's a liability .... needs to be upgraded ASAP!!

Graham is accurate and he's got enough leg. The issue is he's like "anti-clutch". He's the kind of guy who will always look good in preseason. He'll always make the kicks and PAT's that are routine and have nothing riding on them. Game winners are his Kryptonite though.

Isn't he like the 4th most accurate kicker ever?

Unfortunately, we found a kicker without a bad groin that can't kick.......:chef:

you have to make a roster move.. cut him, bring in someone else. graham is not the guy.. the texans have won back to back games that graham blew make-able kicks, what happens when the NEED a 50 yarder to tie and graham pulls it left.. if guys could keep their jobs because of what they did in the past then kris brown would still be our kicker..

Who would you replace him with? Who is available who can consistently kick 50 yarders?

Basically for anyone other than Janikowski it is at best a 50/50 proposition.

Having said that, looking to the next draft we are, absent trades. going to have 9-11 draft picks. Now is looking like a good time to spend a 4th or so on a young kicker if one is out there that looks like he could become your kicker for the next decade. Better a reliable starting kicker than someone to compete for 6th WR or another developmental QB.

Agreed. My first mock had a kicker in the 6th. Perhaps an earlier round than 6th?

Not really. Just didn't get to see much and leg injuries to kickers scare me. If the Texans are comfortable I am fine. I am just saying the Texans are well placed to spend a higher draft pick than you normally would on a kicker.

I have the texans taking a combo punter/kicker in the 5th or 6th in my upcoming mock.

cost of another K for remainder of season would be cheap its time to sign a K who can hit a 45 plus yard FG and actually KO in the endzone Thie defense needs some touch backs to help field position.
