USAA is sponsoring Salute to Service day this weekend and across the country.
(I'm a fan of USAA insurance because I was able to get it through my dad who was in the Air Force, and have had good service through them).

In any event, they are sponsoring something called "Million Fan Salute."

Vote for your team here: http://www.millionfansalute.com/ and local military gets rewards.

It takes 2 seconds. Texans were ranked 14th when I voted. But there aren't many votes yet. After you vote, say what the Texans rank is.

From their presser:

NEW YORK & SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--A simple ‘thank you’ can earn a local military community big rewards through the Million Fan Salute.

“We are excited to see the passion our fans have for football and the military to come alive through this program.”

USAA, the Official Military Appreciation Sponsor of the NFL, and the League encourage fans to visit millionfansalute.com to create a digital salute honoring current and former military on behalf of their favorite NFL team through Nov. 26, 2012. Saluting is as simple as a few clicks, and the three cities with the most salutes will earn rewards – such as an athletic field refurbishment or athletic equipment – for their local military community from USAA.

“One of the most powerful moments of an NFL game is when thousands of fans stand in unison to honor the military and veterans in attendance,” said Don Clark, USAA executive director of sports sponsorships and events. “The Million Fan Salute is our way to encourage NFL fans nationwide to honor and appreciate those who serve. Taking the simple action of saluting will directly benefit each team’s local military community.”

Ideated by USAA, a new initiative will enable NFL teams to deepen their connection to the military community during Salute to Service in November by identifying local military units from each branch of service to honor on game day. Teams will wear helmet decals honoring military branches with their insignia, and the stories of connection between clubs and local units will be highlighted throughout the Salute to Service campaign in broadcast and online. The units represented in the cities with the most digital salutes will be the beneficiaries of the Million Fan Salute rewards.

“The Million Fan Salute is the first military appreciation effort where every NFL fan can participate no matter where they live,” said Anna Isaacson, NFL director of community affairs. “We are excited to see the passion our fans have for football and the military to come alive through this program.”

Not that I had anything to do with it, but Houston is now ranked #1...

Thank you for uniting with NFL fans in the Million Fan Salute to honor our nation's ultimate home team: current and former military and their families. Your salute could make the difference in your local military community.

1st place

One of my Twitter followers says, "Can vote again after an hour. Give a salute for the troops!"

I'm guessing that we can stay in first place if we all do a bit each day. Unless one of the teams really promotes this heavily.

657.

I put this up here as soon as I saw the press release. So I'm guessing we got a headstart.

I must confess I love the Salute to the Military game every year. What is Kubiak's record for the Salute to Service/Military game? Just wondering.

They have vets/wounded warrior folks attend practice all throughout the week. It's very inspirational for the players.

As for the WW T_C mentioned, our tailgate is hosting 30 of them Sunday, so if any of you are in the orange lot, let me know and if you want to come by to give your thanks, or whatever, PM me and I will let you know where we are located..

I just voted again.

Still #1 but in my typical fashion I forgot to see what the vote count was.

Signed,

The guy that forgot to turn his alarm clock back Saturday night.

A suggestion for the mods. Can we add 2nd place need votes or something to the title. Might stir up some people's competitive juices, since we have all these alpha males around here and all........:kingkong:

You can vote once per day, once per browser (IE, Chrome, Firefox), once per device (laptop, desktop, iPad, iPhone).

Looks like a couple of teams have written about the site. Most visibly from Google search the Redskins.

I've sent a message to Texans folks to see if they can further get the word out.

But we're doing pretty well from our part of the web.
