DE David Hunter, just called up from the practice squad, hurt his toe in practice Thursday. Needs surgery on Monday #Texans

Hunter was brought up after Tim Jamison was put on injured reserve. Depth is becoming an issue for the #Texans up front.

Kubiak: DL David Hunter hurt his toe yesterday and has to get surgery on Monday. Won't be available for Sunday.

DE David Hunter said doctors told him he'll be out 3 months. Tore a ligament in his left big toe #Texans

That is not great news.

Rather lose depth than someone higher up the depth chart though.

We'll get to see Rick Smith show off his street FA skills.

Geez. So the only DE's we have on the roster are Watt, Antonio Smith, and Crick?

As for available free agents, Tim Bulman is still out there.

Son of a... Hmm. Delano Johnson from the PS is 6'4" 280. He is rostered as an OLB, but that is about the right size for DE?

This unusual severe variant of turf toes doesn't usually allow players to return that quickly.....closer to 6 months until fully rehabbed and pre-injury functional.

Geez, people, how bout a little sympathy for the fella? Gets called up to the show and promptly gets injured, that sucks. He still gets paid though, so he's got that going for him.

Apparently season ending.

Who do they sign off the FA list, and do they wait until after the game or do it before?

They could probably move Barwin inside if Smith or Watt needs to come out for a play. Smith gets tired, Barwin takes over for smith, Braman takes over for Barwin. Barwin goes out for a rest, comes back in. Repeat.

Don't be surprised if we see a lot of Braman and Nading this week.

That's a huge bummer for both him and the team. Dude finally gets his chance and an injury screws it up only a few days before his first game.

What the h*ll.
The high and low of an UDFA! :smiliepalm:

One minute the door just opens; the next minute it shuts.
What luck! :mariopalm:

What happened to DJ Bryant? He had a few sacks in the preseason as a DE, and then I think we cut him and he mouthed off on twitter. Is he on someone's P squad?

Colts I think.

EDIT: HE WAS JUST RELEASE FROM THE COLTS PS THIS PAST WEDNESDAY!

The Colts released him from the practice squad two days ago.

Edit: CnD beat me to it with an edit of his own.

Bummer/pisser. This just sucks.

Don't know how much he could have or would have contributed but personally for him it sucks.

At least he's dragging starter pay VS PS salary.

Today Kubiak still states that "it looks good" for J Jo this Sunday. But will be game time.:chef:

Caldwell will be taking the prescribed pre-game neurological exam but is expected to pass and play Sunday.

This is how they are expecting to play musical chairs on D:

(on affect DE David Hunter’s absence will have on the defensive line) “We normally only really play four or five guys anyways just ups the reps of a few more players. We only carry six on our roster to begin with. (NT Shaun) Cody is probably going to play a few more reps. Obviously Earl (Mitchell) is going to play a few more reps. That was coming anyways. It really doesn’t change anything.”

(on NT Earl Mitchell’s versatility)
“He’ll continue to play both spots because that way he can spell (DE) J.J. (Watt), he can spell (DE) Antonio (Smith). He can go play the nose while (NT) Shaun (Cody) takes a break. Then you’re going to see (DE Jared) Crick get much more involved with what’s going on. They’ve all been playing, but obviously their reps, we talk about Earl, Shaun, and Crick, their reps go up just because of the rotation the way it is set right now. But they all have been contributing.”

(on DE Jared Crick) “We think he’s ready to go. He’s come a long way, probably played his best. In our situation last week he got to play a lot late in the game and play well. He’s practiced very well so it’s time. It’s that time of year where you got a lot of young players who maybe you weren’t counting on a ton early in the season, but here you go. You get nicks, you got things happening and all of a sudden they become contributors. How they play, how the team responds, how the depth of the team that has been put together responds in the long haul is what you’re all about. You need some guys to step up.”

(on ILB Barrett Ruud) “(ILB) Barrett (Ruud) is doing really good. There is a possibility of him being up in this game, but he’s come a long way so we’ll see. We feel fortunate to get him, veteran player who’s caught on to what we’re doing pretty quick.”

Nice to see the positive comments for Crick.

Would love to see him take advantage of the attention Watt gets the same way he made plays when teams overplayed Suh.

Yeah I feel for the guy mostly.

Whether he would have been a good player for us or not we may never know...could have been the next diamond in the rough UFA...

interesting to see rooks get more playing time, it's been difficult to digest just how well Texans drafted based off this small sample size & what each player is capable of. I know they liked the energy Hunter brought to the table, this is rather minor injury for him in scope of a long career, just hang in there & rehab hard :cjeremy635:

Felix Jones (as an RB) sustained a severe turf toe injury which required surgery in November 2008. He came back strong in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Some don't do as well. Hopefully, Hunter will.
