Jimmy Johnson is the ONLY choice

Nighthawk

Rookie
Here's the deal. This is a 4 year old club running on empty. We need rebuilding and we need rebuilding fast. Whether you bring JJ in as coach and GM or just GM, he's the ONLY available PROVEN choice who could rebuild the team in two years. Nobody else even comes close. The ONLY question is, would he do it and what would it take to get him. All the other choices are fine, good coaches, good prospects, but they are ONLY prospects.

JJ is as close to a sure thing as we could get. Excellent eye for talent, great drafts, great motivator, knows how to give his coordinators room, stays up with the game, works to his players' strengths. Smart football. I say he's not only the best choice, he's the only choice. If he'll only do GM that's fine, get Kubiak or maybe Jerry Gray (not Fisher, for God's sakes).

If McNair wants a big time team in a hurry after four years of mediocre, choose Jimmy.

I agree with you. Though I wouldnt cry doom if we got Kubiak or one of the other promising coaches (not the castoffs that have failed elsewhere.. like Billick and Fassel.. we have done the whole "give them another chance" thing with our current coaching staff..its time to get someone proven) I think that JJ is the answer.

When I look around the league and at who we could realistically get.. JJ is the only guy who we could hire that would not leave me wondering "is he the answer".. he is the only guy who has been there and done that.. and knows how to win.

Also.. alot of people talk about the value of veteran players on a young team.. well how about a veteran coach? We have all these young players who have obviously lost faith in the coaches and the system.. how big of a boost would it be to their confidence to bring in a coach with a record like JJ's?

I think he is the best choice..hands down. The only guy I can think of who could come close.. is Fisher. I agree that if he doesnt want to coach(JJ), GM would be great too.. but I think in that situation, Fisher is the best choice by far. He has coached winning teams for years.. his players are motivated, his ability has never been a question.. and he has plenty of experience. He would be the only experienced coach on the market who wouldnt be leaving his team because he failed (the downfall of the Titans has more to do with players aging, bad cap management, and not replacing lost talent with an equally talented player.. Fisher has always performed his job well.)

JJ is sitting on his morals, making big bucks as a commentator. I can't see him getting back in the grind of coaching. He's is on easy street making easy money right now! Unless McNair would be willing to unload his pockertbook, I just don't see it happening! Especially when the players always mess up his hair. He doesn't miss that for sure!

:tv: I'm interested in knowing what kind of relationhip he and McNair have, especially after seeing him on the site w/ McNair w/ the Katrina aftermath.

Since you guys are having a dream about JJohnson being our coach or GM, I have one two. When I look around the league the only one that will outdo Jimmy in a heartbeat is JOHN MADDEN. Sure hes old but so is Jim Johnson in Philly and a lot of other places. Please stop it already with Kubiak, even Caper is more capable than that clown.

There are probably some back channel talks going on with JJ and that MAY be why Howie said what he did on the air. I suspect there are others being talked to also. (there better be) Personally, I like the idea of JJ as the GM with Kubiak as HC best. A good talent evaluator and strong personality at GM with a young offensive minded HC. We STILL would need a good OC & DC to make it work, but with those two together, I suspect we could attract some good ones.

I think Kubiak is capable of being a head coach. He has been running one of the better offenses in the league for several years and has experience making a quarterback who is similar to David Carr's style be very successful. Just because he doesn't have head coach experience doesn't mean he isn't qualified. I don't know of any head coaches who have started their career at the head coach position.

You deleted part of my quote that said---"Unless McNair would be willing to unload his pocketbook."

JJ may not turn his nose up at BIG $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ from McNair.

Funny exchange on Fox's Rapid Fire segment.

JB to JJ: Will capers be back?

JJ: something to the effect that "everyone wants to fire the coach, you also have to look at who's going to bring in the talent"

Howie: <with a huge sheet eating grin> "Well who do you think might be able to bring in that talent?"

JJ: avoiding that question: "No, Dom won't be back."

Laughter and snickering

Even if JJs not interested, they are doing a great job of fueling the rumor.

We still have to remember, though, that Johnson's success was before the salary cap era, when teams used to build dynasties with money.

Jimmy Johnson got 9 draft picks for like one guy and after that he could not do anything. Did you see his record in Miami??

No, I dont want Johnson here, I would rather keep Casserly, as *****ic as he is.

Casserly is just as bad he is the one giving away 2 to 3 draft picks for unproven players that still havent panned out.

Johnson was 36-28 in Miami and 2-3 in the playoffs (well into the salary cap era). He made the playoffs three of the four years he was there.

Right now, a winning record and playoffs is only a dream for the current Texans administration.

And how well did those same Dolphins play after he left? A winning record is just a dream of next year for them as well. At least as of right now, they could still do it which is more than you can say for us.

JJ is not the answer as a coach GM here. He would be an awsome GM probably similar to Casserly with a better eye for talent. He would still ship picks like they were nothing. JJ as a coach is a product of talent and luck. I guess technically all coaches are. The best thing is to bring in Kubiak, B. Shottenheimer, Dennison, Hoke, and Marciano. And then give them a team built by our new GM Jimmy Johnson. Then when we go to Dallas Jimmy takes a huge crap in Jerry Jones Texas Stadium shaped hot tub.

Wannstead went 22-10 the following two seasons with JJs players. Thanks for making my point.

I think he would make a good GM, much better than what we have now, but I don't think he would want to be head coach nor would I want him to be.

Casserly is an 'awesome' GM? Okey dokey.

I would like to see JJ as our new GM, Martz as our OC, Move Capers back to DC (since the players say they like playing for him) and to offset any doubt of him coaching the D, we should get JJ from Philly as our head coach.

I would like to see Pete Carrol as our GM because his team is loaded with talent, so he must have a good eye for scouting. I would also want The Colts OC to be our new head coach. We also bring in Martz as the OC or Kubiak if the offer doesn't insult him. We should also bring back Chris Palmer, I don't think he was our problem and I think he can be our QB coach. I would also want to keep Capers, but as the DB coach or maybe the D-coordinator if no one else is available. Any other suggestions for D coaches.........?

sounds good . :texflag:

the moving coaches down, or "demoting" then, usually doesnt work. yes, it is a nice plan, but people have egos and while what most of you are saying would be nice...it wouldnt work.

I am still all for the idea of JJ at GM, and Kubiack at HC.

YoungTFan you are right on track as a best case scenario. JJ at GM Kubiak at HC, B. Shottenheimer as OC/QB coach, Dennison at OLC, Hoke at DC, and Marciano at STC
