How come the Jets loss and we didn't win?

Anyone else getting mad that they aren't covering our win but covering the Jets loss? I understand the whole bigger market thing but this is ridiculous.

I've heard how the Jets were only an onside kick, and a few interceptions away from winning this game.

But we aren't hearing how The Jets had multiple chances to take the game but couldn't convert because when push came to shove our defense shoved them out of FG range. Or how really the only reason it was close was because of a stupid Kick Off return, otherwise it's a par for the course 23-10 win for us.

Did the Texans play sloppy? Yes. Did the Texans play down to their opponent? Yes. But overall it was a team that did all the small things right to win the game.

I can only imagine how much it will be because Green Bay lost next week.

Oh well.....just keep winning Texans.

Because everyone expected the Texans to win. There's no story there.

Rex Ryan still has a job, that's a story. Sanchez is still their starting QB, that's a story. Tebow is still their back up, that's a story.

I usually watch FT on ESPN2 every morning just to see what the talking heads are blabbering about now. And this morning was that "The Texans did not look that formidable and the secondary was exposed." Yet when Baltimore only scored 9 on the Chiefs, nothing about them looking average was mentioned.

Which is larger television market, New York/New Jersey or Texas? They are playing to their ad base just like any of us would do.

JJ Watt and Arian Foster will turn the tide of media support. Not completely, mind you, but they will win some hearts and help us out in the marketability factor.

Both of those guys are electric in their on-field play and their personalities and how they are easy for the media to get quality soundbites and interviews from.

With Andre Johnson having been the only superstar here prior to Watt and Foster, the media never cared because although AJ can PLAY...he is as close to being a mute as you can get--There's nothing there to really show viewers at home.

And plus, we just have to understand that win or lose...the Jets and Giants and Patriots and Ravens and Steelers, etc., are always going to get the ESPN press because they are indeed located in that area. Nobody in New York or Bristol is impacted by Houston, TX. They're barely covering the Cowboys and the Cowboys are supposedly the most iconic NFL team even though they are perennial losers the past 15+ years.

I really don't care anymore. I get my "love" right here with all of us fellow fans, and frankly that's more rewarding than strangers (media elite) who are just bandwagon jumpers anyways. Fugg 'em, they mean zilch to me.

We didn't get any respect in 1994 and 1995 either, but we still beat dat azz against New York and Orlando. Trophies, people. TROPHIES.

1) I could care less about the media coverage, they ain't gon help us win...

2)The only way we will get what you are looking for is if we are on the verge of being considered a dynasty...meaning we must have at LEAST 2 Superbowl titles and playing for our third in a minimum of 4 years...then and only then, will Houston start getting the countries respect..oh and it will happen. Just be patient.

3) JJ WATT is putting us on the map..he is to the D what AJ was to the O this past decade..except for some reason AJ never got respect till his later years..

Yeah, but even watching Mike and Mike this morning, they only had Sanchez's and Tebow's stats on the screen. Maybe show the Texans also?
The Texans were not that impressive last night. They kept an inferior team in the game and to their credit, didn't collapse like the last time we played the Jets. The Jets circus is a much easier story to talk about outside of JJ Watt if you ask me.

You are right in every word, but I'm at the point where I say eff them. If they want to look like NYJ lapdogs let them. The teams knows it is good. The fans know that the team is good. The opponents they beat know the team is good. That's enough for me. But you're right, it's laughable.

I could careless about media attention but when we just won on MNF and they go to live press coverage of the losing HC and QB that pisses me off. My team won, we deserve the coverage.

TBF to the Jets, them keeping it that close against us was far more impressive given their form and injuries than us winning by 6 points. I think there is also a huge story to be had from how many trick plays and wrinkles they felt the need to reveal so early in the season. If it wasn't for that kick return it would have looked a whole lot uglier though, especially given their need to resort to punt fakes and onside kicks to try and beat us.

Since the stream I got stuck with ESPN's sports center thing after the game I left it on all morning and tbf I'm far more interested in the Jets trainwreck than hearing some national media guy tell me a load of things I already knew about my team anyway.

I'm with you here Vinny. I'm glad they aren't talking about us because it wasn't our best representation or showing. I love winning ugly because we've lost so many games when we've played well. We have an inferiority complex as a fanbase sometimes. If we just continue to win then we'll be talked about plenty come January and February.

yeah, a mark of a good team is winning ugly sometimes. The Giants have been a .500 team that peaks around playoff time under Coughlin...a couple of SB's would work for me if that's our case as well.

That said the 49ers came in and destroyed this same Jet team last week. Dominated them in just about every area. I think the Nation was thinking we would come in and steamroll the Jets...didn't happen, so no glossing. I don't think that's all that strange.

Agreed! Heck, the espn fairies were giggling at the Jets before the game, assuming the Texans would crush them. It might've even irked them a little that we didn't.

It should've been a blow out, imo. We allowed them to stay in the game. Crappy ST's, inconsistent offense and allowing scrub WRs to run wide open. And, to top it off, we lost one of our primary cogs on defense. It's unfortunate how pissed then depressed I was/am after that game. I'm still "whoa as me" every time I see Cushing's name.......I need a hug

While y'all say this the media has shown their double standard against us.

Someone mentioned it earlier. The Ravens almost lost to the chiefs. Only scored 9 points on em. I didn't hear any one say they weren't impressed or that the Ravens were exposed.

I can understand this a bit. The Ravens have been there done that...now the 9ers...

9ers lost to a team that they were not supposed to lose to already. Why when they lose it's just a bump in the road but the time we almost lose it's how we were exposed.

I know this is not how they all see it, but the those guys on first take definitely saw it this way. I know one of their guys, maybe Young? can't remember said the Texans still won with their D game and the Jets bought their A game and still didn't win.

What I'm saying is really don't care what they say about us now. The Texans just need to keep winning and let the results speak for them. The media darlings last year were the Packers and look where that got them last year.

I understand fans want to hear the media rave about our team 24/7, but I don't care about all of that. What they said on first take was right. We didn't look great last night. We had opportunities to blow the game open and didn't take advantage. The important thing is we won and no one can take that away. Good teams find ways to win when they play poorly. I've heard people giving similar criticisms to Atlanta and Baltimore the past couple of weeks. We just have to get "the world is against us" mentality out of our heads. I don't believe that at all.

even when we win you guys are depressing.

I don't have a complex. I just like hearing about our team. :D

Remember, though, a lot of the coverage of the Jets is also due the fact that people like to revel in the failures of New York teams. Sometimes that's not coverage born out of love, but the schadenfreude of kicking some big media team when they are down. Do you think Jets fans are loving the coverage? I doubt it. It shows a franchise in disarray and sucking badly.

The game result was irrelevant to the focal point of the media narrative. Even if the Texans had put on another boring blowout, virtually no one in the media would be talking about the Texans today anyhow. They are media honks who only want to blow their horns for the Jets and their Clown Car sideshow.

It's nothing personal, they'd rather talk NYJ all the time. Had the Texans done what many here and in the media expected, the theme would be "well, the Texans did what they were supposed to do, but WHAT IN THE WORLD HAS HAPPENED TO THE J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!?!?!?!!!!!!!

Should Tebow start over Sanchez? Should Rex Ryan be fired? Blah blah blah blah blah.

If you have a problem with this, I don't begrudge your grudge because I completely get it, but I will say this: STOP WATCHING ESPN! Especially First Take. Those fools do not deserve your ratings.

yep, I agree with Mailman. It's soap opera crap that our drama obsessed nation is addicted to these days. New York scratches that itch, so let them have it.

I'd rather have a "media boring" team that works hard and just wins games. I could not care less about national media spotlight if drama is required to be there. Just give me stories about how interesting Foster is or how dominant Watt is out there. The Jest (oops, typo!) coverage is just As The World Turns irrelevant brain garbage, IMO.

It was the guys from first take, I think most of the football guys understand that no team is going to come out and dominate every week.

But these dudes on first take even had a Houston guy on the show and wouldn't even let him talk about the Texans lol. Talked about Tebow several times and whenever they actually did mention the Texans it was about ho unimpressed they were or how our secondary was exposed.

I'm always reminded why I do not watch that show often.

I think everyone is happy about getting the win, but ESPNs bias just gets tiring is all. I guess some Falcon fans should feel the same way as well because I think they are getting less coverage than us.

didnt know where to put this and didnt think it deserved its own thread

Wow, I have been clamoring at the mouth all day to get home and write my review. There are so many things wrong at this point I am not sure where to start.

1. Andre Johnson, I love you man but something is not right. He was injured in TC and really has done nothing of significance this entire season. His routes are not crisp and I fear he is battling an injury.

2. Jonathan Joseph, why the heck he was playing last night is beyond me. He battled a groin problem ALL week and we played a scrub Jets team and yet they played him......you notice that Mark targeted JJo more than anyone? The guy better get healthy before this week or we're screwed. I am ashamed they kept him in the game while getting destroyed. And why is Harris even on this team, if he cannot contribute on ST or defense then cut him now.

3. Our run defense was great yesterday. We allowed 69 rush yards and 3.0 YPC, seems like Wade can pinpoint what to stop and focus on that, but cannot seem to stop both the pass and run at the same time. We allowed Mark to throw for some good yardage and if his wideouts could catch it would have been worse. Hopefully it was a fluke because JJo was hurt.

4. ST is a joke right now, Holliday is terrible, our coverage is worse and our blocking on kick and punt returns is bad. Marciano better figure out what the problem is and how to fix it because it WILL cost us a game and it almost did last night. This is a MAJOR concern right now.

5. ILB wtf are we gonna do now?!?!?!? I doubt we trade for anyone because it is not our way of doing business. I would like to see Braman in more and would love to see if Reed could play inside. Let Mercilus play OLB and kick Reed in. The problem is, I think this hurts our run defense GREATLY but really at this point, missing Cushing in general will hurt our run defense.

The only problem I see is you're watching First Take and you don't expect them to talk about Tebow. That show should be renamed 'The Tim Tebow show'. They literally talk about him everyday.

They pander to their audience. Unfortunately that show's ratings have blown up since they started talking about Tebow so much so why wouldn't they ride it until the wheels fall off? I personally enjoy it, but only on DVR so I can fast forward through some of the junk that they talk about sometimes. It's an entertainment based show. Nothing more, nothing less.

We're the worse 5-0 team in the history of sports!!!!!!!!!!!!

:overreact:

we have played our 5 "super bowls" already :scarygirl:

seriously. I'd rather us keep chugging along and let ESPiN (or BSPN) keep doing what they do. Don't mean much to me, enough TT to keep me busy than worry about the talking heads say

LOL at the bolded. Before the season started, I was just hoping for a 5-2 record at the bye week. Now I'm fully expecting 6 wins. Could be 7 but the beaten down Texan/Oiler/Gambler fan in me keeps spilling my damn kool-aid. :dangit:

Who cares. Let the Texans continue flying under the radar (as much as one can assume seeing as how we are one of two undefeated teams) in scenarios like this.

Im actually glad that we got a win in such ugly fashion like we did. That shows us that we arent invincible like we thought we were. I think we will have our hands full with GB so a gut check game like this came at the right time. As far as Im concerned, let the media play down our wins, I can guarentee you that our opponents notice the talent.

We're the consensus #1 team in the league & have been since week 3. We are not flying under the radar.

Why are some saying this was an ugly win? We were never not in control of the outcome of that game, on the road, against a team we've never beat, on Monday freak'n night.

This is an ugly win Ravens 9 KC 6

Stop whining, texans have gotten a lot coverage this year. They were the first topic on around the horn today.

It was an ugly win in the following ways:

1. Schaub had his worst game of the season and posted a 71 quarterback rating. He also threw his Second pick of the season.
2. Andre Johnson was held to one catch.
3. We failed to covert three red zone trips into tds and settled for field goals.
4. We allowed one of the worst offenses in the league to ring up 17 points on us and actually had a chance to win game...albeit a small one.
5. Jonathan Joseph had arguably his worst game in a Texans uniform.

If you somehow think that was an impressive win then you are blind to the deficiencies that were displayed. I do think it was a quality win but we should have handled them much easier.

Can't believe people still watch espn to hear some guy analyze all 5 times tebow touched the ball and why he should or shouldn't be starting. is this what people really want to hear espn talk about?

eh.... he wasn't sacked, showed good pocket presence, command of the offense, & good judgement.
2. Andre Johnson was held to one catch.
Andre Johnson caught one ball, dropped two, maybe three. Had nothing to do with Cromartie. We also saw more Posey, Martin, & Casey in the offense. OD & KDub really stepped it up as well. Good to see considering most of us do not expect the big fella to play 16 games.
3. We failed to covert three red zone trips into tds and settled for field goals.
True

Are you telling me the defense wasn't awesome Monday night? That the world doesn't know Jj Watt now? Cushing left mid 2nd Qtr & their offense put up 3 points. We got two turnovers. The Jets converted only 28% of their third downs & we held them to 3 ypc on 69 yards, even though our offense did not nullify the running game..... & did I mention Jj Watt still leads the league in sacks after 5 weeks?
5. Jonathan Joseph had arguably his worst game in a Texans uniform.
Yup, But Kj stepped it up, so did McCain This is a team sport.

There's a lot of territory between impressive & ugly. Our offense played clean, I can't think of any offensive penalties. We moved the ball, scored 23 points & controlled the game from start to finish. Our defense made the Jets work their asses off to score 10 points.

Not impressive, far from it. Not ugly, far from it. It's a W against an AFC opponent. They're talking about moral victories, not us.

Like I said before, it was a quality win and Im glad we won, obivously but there is no reason we should not have blown them out of the water. We were a much better team on paper and turf. I know I know, MNF, their backs were against the wall, blah, blah, blah.

Bottom line, we won the game by one score against a team that is literally imploding on itself. It was an ugly win.

We can read stats all day that defend our side of the story but in an effort to not waste too much time, we can just agree to disagree.
