The Holliday experiment is over.....

He makes poor decisions, no doubt about it.
But the disaster that is our special teams, isn't all on him.
At least a couple of the other 10 players on the field have to at least TRY and block for him.

JMO.

A specialty special teamer can't be the worst returner in the NFL. Get someone to catch the ball and kneel in the endzone and we improve our field position by 8 yards.

I've been a fan if holiday and I've defended him, but if they cut him tomorrow I wouldn't shed a tear.

was he always this timid? I thought in preseason he'd run it out. At this point he's not giving me much confidence. I give him to the bye week. If he doesn't get it done, we cut him and look for someone else.

I can't put all the blame on returns on Holliday. Looks like he's not getting any blocks there. He just needs to kneel it when it's in the end zone. He looks more dangerous on punts. But considering how poor our kickoff coverage team is, I would release Holliday for a guy who can boot the ball out of the end zone on kickoffs. May seem like a waste of a roster space, but two TD returns in 5 games is awful.

He does try to much. He needs to settle.

I feel like at this point if he hasn't found a way to get into his "happy place" by now he's not going to. The Texans tried but it's not working. He was a preseason all-pro this year but since week one he's been a really poor returner. Bad decisions, questionable ball handling, and to be honest he's not showing us jack-chit in regards to his speed. He's thinking so much that he's slow. I know how fast he can be but if he never makes a decision early enough for it to matter than his speed doesn't matter.

Much as I felt back in the day when we had JJ Moses back there returning (Remember Moses? Lot of fun to watch. Run for 40 yards in circles and across the field, net gain of 5 yards with a penalty because his own blockers lost track of him and ended up blocking someone in the back) I feel like the Texans would be better off with a more conventional returner.

Do people not remember the Ravens game? Trindon hasn't lost a game for us yet. Every seems to think Jacoby did. So which is better? Jacoby or Trindon?

If we put Daniel Manning is out there and he gets injured on a meaningless 8 yard return people will be crying that he was out there in the first place

First of all nobody said that being done with waiting on Trindon means we want Jacoby back. Jacoby had his own issues.

Having said that we've got to have somebody back there who is both reliable and capable of getting a few yards. That guy is probably on the roster already. How about giving a shot to Forsett? Maybe try one of those rookie WR's out that we brought in? There are options but Holliday isn't delivering so he's about to stop being one of them.

I can understand the blocking issue, but cheese and rice take a knee!!!!!!

I keep waiting for the college formation with someone beside him that tells him to take a knee.

I really wanted to see you this work and pulled for the little guy, it would be a great story, but it ain't working.

Sometimes I think him getting tackled at the 8 yard line is Kubes strategy to put up yards and chew up clock. JK

I'd rather see K-Mart back there.

Has Forsett returned kicks? If the Jets cut Grimes, then resign him and have 28 return kicks.......

On punts, why not just NOT have a return guy back there? Starting at the 1 is as bad as us starting at the 10, and there'd be no chance at Holliday blowing the fair catch.

On kickoffs, put some no-name doof back there, like Keo, and just tell him to down it if it's into the EZ or hold on and do his best if it's in the field of play.

Seriously, wouldn't this be a better way of handling this?

Bryan Braman is the only thing positive with our ST unit. And I have a feeling he was being held back tonight, on purpose, due to the injury bug hitting us at LB tonight.

The only reason Trindon is on the team is because he is a playmaker. As long as he's on the team, I want him to return as many kicks as possible... I don't care how deep in the end zone he is. But if he's not making plays, then we need to evaluate if he's worth the roster spot. Forsett & Martin are adequate returners if needed.

No it wouldn't.

Why would you intentionally limit yourself?

I don't care who is back there for returns, but you aren't going to put guys back there just to catch the ball.

Also starting on the one is not the same as starting on the 10. Not even close.

Yeah. He looks like he's running with cement shoes now. And no blocking. And still no real contribution on offense...

Fat lady is definitely warming up!

that makes about as much sense as me saying they prob held posey back on ST's because of ben tate's injury:choke:

Just had the image of Steve Slaton running out of bounds at the two yard line returning a kick...from the end zone. Atleast Trindon has that going for him.

He needs to go - now. Not at the break. Now. He's not only not a positive, he is a negative and our ST in general is our Achilles heel right now. He looks very tentative. Sure the blocking could be better, but guess what, a good return man also helps his blockers. It's a two way street, and Holliday simply is too indecisive, too tentative, too slow with the ball in his hands...and he has unsure hands that is simply a disaster waiting to happen.

Manning is very good at it....or we can give Forsett a go if they they don't want to risk a Manning injury. And on PR, I'm all for trying Martin there. Isn't that supposed to be one of his strengths?

Cut him and let's add a couple of LB's for depth and ST play. After the dirty play that knocked Cushing out, we need depth there.

Jones, Graham, Keo, Ball, Dobbins have all also been plus players on special teams so far this year. But you are right that Braman has been the stand out.

As for Holliday. Yeah, time for this to end. It's a big, ugly scray ball of no results.

This is what I was saying last week. If you have a guy who's a specialist, he has to perform better at his specialty than this or he doesn't deserve a spot on the team. Martin or Keo or Forsett or even Manning in a pinch. We could have kept Grimes and had him doing this.

Texans are 32nd, dead last, in average kickoff return yards at 17.6. But just taking a knee & ball on the 20 yard line only moves us up 3 spots to 29th.

On punt returns, Texans are about middle of the pack with 9.2 yards. The worst teams average 6 yards per punt return.

Well one thing's for sure... he will start running it back like a hall of famer as soon as some other team picks him up. I would probably give him another game at least, but I wouldn't blame Kubes for cutting him this week either.

i dont mean to be contradictory on this one, because holliday is definitely underwhelming ... but our blocking has been horrid. he should bring out kicks that land 5 yards in the endzone, he shouldnt however be dodging 2 guys at the 10 yard line. i'm putting 90% of our problems returning kicks on marciano. holliday is far from earning a reputation for sure hands, but we've seen what he can do with a lane. the problem is he no longer has a lane to work with and the only way he's going to make something happen is by dancing backwards and sideline to sideline - a bad bad idea.

I agree with this and it seems like sometime he is dodging guys before he gets to the 10.

During preseason Holliday had no hesitation at all, just catch and go. Since the season has started he is catching then looking for a hole before he takes a step. He needs to get back to just running or they are doing too much coaching and he is doing too much thinking.

So they released the KR for a back up guard.

Are they going to make another move?

Hmmmmm....

Maybe they are about to trade Caldwell.

It was time. He looked timid as hell prior to this year and looked like he'd finally "got it" in pre-season. He'd been regressing.

Barrett Ruud

They didn't have to release anyone to sign Ruud.

Cushing to ir means an open roster spot.

They released trindon to bring up Cody white.

A back up guard. Just seems strange unless there is another move in the works.

They signed White from the PS because a couple teams were trying to sign him. The Texans didn't want to lose him. Per Scurf

Another team had expressed interest in signing practice squad G Cody White to its 53-man roster. #Texans didn't want to lose him
