How many wins can we sustain and STILL get DBrick?

Thought this might be an interesting conversation. I think MOST of the fans would like to see DBrick in Houston. (may change by the end of the combine). IMO, we can probably go 4-12 and still be high enough (around #3) to get him. The issue with not getting the actuall number 1 pick is that we will not be getting many really good trade down offers.
 
when you look at the teams likley to pick in front of us should we go 3-13, 4-12, San Fran, Green Bay, Minnesota, Cleaveland, they will all have more pressing needs than a LT, hoepfully that means we will be able to get our man without being the worst team in the league...
 
I think the Texans may win 3 or 4 games tops and I guess that would be what? A top 3 pick maybe.......
 
lets not lie to our self how many bad teams like the browns are out there we had trouble beating the browns lets not get to worried about wins we mights still end up with the number one pick.
 
I refuse to look at this situation until the season ends. Fact is, I want to win every game that we can win right now. I think that's a lot more important. We can worry about draft picks later.

lets see:
SF: dont need a Qb but could go for Reggie Bush
Green Bay: Desperatly need Defense and an offensive line
Minnesota: Desperatly need a Center and some offensive weapons
Cleveland: need some offensive and defensive weapons

The one team on this list to be wary of is GB. When healthy they have Walker, Ahman, and a decent backup QB in Rogers. They need Oline help like nobody's business.
 
But with Chad Clifton, do they take a T that high anyway? I know Clifton isn't a franchise level LT but seems like LT is one of their lesser OL problems.

You could say the same thing about the Texans.
 
c'mon guys its not like your going out on a limb here to say- two wins and the Texans should have an excellent chance to draft D'Brickashaw, or three wins the Texans have a good chance to draft D'Brickashaw or four wins they still have an outside shot at drafting D'Brickashaw. remember the strength of schedule element & since the Texans hold the edge in this category means that in case of ties the other teams will pick ahead of the Texans. :)
 
Nov 13 @Indianapolis - Loss. Its the colts. They are even better than they were last year, and we are worse than we were last year.

Nov 20 Kansas City - Loss. KC wont let us win with our defense this year.

Nov 27 St. Louis - Loss. Again, I dont think we will do good against a high powered offense, when we cant score with ours.

Dec 4 @Baltimore - Loss. They look like a crappy team, but vs. the texas they will look like the 2000 ravens.

Dec 11 @Tennessee - Win. Tenn is a bad team, and will split with us this year.

Dec 18 Arizona - Win. at home vs a mediocre team, who cant decide on a QB.

Dec 24 Jacksonville - Ill count this as a W, just because we seem to do good against them, but my money is on jacksonville.

Jan 1 @San Francisco - Loss. Julian Petterson alone with wreak havok on David. Let us all pray for him on this day.

So there you have it. The Texans end with a 4-12 record, landing them the #4 overall selection. Will be the #2 selection if they lose the jacksonville game.
 
You got to figure that the packers will win about 3 to 4 more games, based on the divison they play in. So the texans have pretty much have the inside track to D'Brick.

That's about how I see it. If we get 4 or more the odds of us and DBrick getting together get reduced a LOT.

Do really think he's that talented and can be a solid NFL LT ? I know
he blew out a knee last year and is still recovering, but even taking that into
consideration I dunno....I saw him on TV couple weeks ago and he did not
look like a steller pass blocker.

You gotta be kiddin me right ? .... He's had a VERY POOR season not to mention prior knee injuries .... How about the NINE sacks Miami gave up against FSU ? ..... Winston Looked completely overmatched that game and hasnt looked a whole lot better since . There are a multitude of better tackles available in this draft ....

A "multitude" of better tackles? Like who? Ferguson and Winston are about on the same level. Either way if we have a top 3 pick we should trade down because one or both of them will be available in the 6-10 range and we could pick up an extra draft pick or two for it.

Not on the same level because of 2 reasons.
1) Ferguson is more athletic and has quicker feet, you can teach technique, but some things are natural.

2) Winston is bigger and probably stronger, so he will probably be a better run blocker right off the bat, but Ferguson can always get bigger and stronger in an NFL training program.

Winston will be available at the six to ten range. Ferguson is definitely a top 5 pick. I would like to trade down though, if we can. I still want to be able to get Ferguson though, I think the Texans take too many chances and they should just take the top LT on the board if they cant trade down and still get D'Brick. When we take the best player available it usually pans out well, see AJ and D-Rob.
 
why are we so obsessed with D'Brick...we need reggie bush...period..we don't have enough guys that can take the ball to the house from anywhere on the field... the o-line has actually gotten better and are giving up fewer sacks and allowing less pressure. we do not need to waste our first pick on o-line when reggie bush is right there and there is such a deep draft for o-line...I think reggie bush is the safer pick, this guy is going to be awesome, and D'Brick propbabaly will be good also but i think the transition to the NFL will prove to be alot easier for a RB rather than a LT. And another thing, Dominic Davis aint that hot. . he's Average nothing more, and the guy gets hurt every year..he will be a good second stringer and nothing more

while i agree DD is not an every down back, he just signed a contract extension.
Reggie Bush will have a hard time adjusting to the NFL as well, he is not a RB as you suggested. He will have some highlight plays his first couple of years, but he will not be the RB that you are looking for. He is an outside runner, he does not go inside the tackles, and his body is very small. He should be fairly injury prone in his career.

reggie bush is 6' 200 lbs, atleast thats what his stats say, how is that small this is not Darren sproles im talking about...look at warrick Dunn.. . you dont think he could do as well as warrick dunn? come on...LOL :rofl:
 
I would obviously prefer the Texans pick up D'Brick since we need more help in pass protection. If we do get Winston I won't be too upset. I think Winston would come here and become our RT if we did select him. Chester has proven that he is a good LT the way he's played this year, especially the way he handled Freeney the other week.

BTW nfldraftcountdown has come out with its player comparisons. I sure would like a Walter Jones type player at LT for this team.

I like how Omar Jacobs is compared to Phillip Rivers eventhough Phillip Rivers hasn't played a single down in the NFL other than preseason.

I also think that Matt Leinart's comparison is more of a Chad Pennington than Tom Brady. Brady Quinn is Tom Brady

I still like Winston better, and Ferguson adding 20 pounds could slow him down a little too and even their quickness out. Either way both of them will be a hoss in this league, and I'd like to see us trade down to the 4-8 range (if we are in the top 3) and pick up whichever one we feel is a better player and pick up an extra pick or two.
 
the only edge that Winston has over Ferguson would be his flexability to play other line positions. at the PRO level Eric Winston could play LT, LG or RT while D'Brick is strictly a LT.

We'll have to wait til draft day to find out what happens, if the Texans maintain their position they could receive some attractive offers to move down, not once but twice and still have a top 10 pick, then take Winston while in the process retool & infuse the Texans with multiple talented/needed prospects :cool:

Winston is also bigger and stronger, but yes we will have to watch the rest of the season, bowl games, all-star games, combine, and workouts to determine who will likely end up being a better pick. There is much football left to be played.
 
Mork you my dogg man. Either way I have seen both play several times and Winston and Ferguson right now are so even that it is not even funny. Comparing Ferguson who is undersized and not very strong should not be compared to a hoss like Walter Jones. Walter Jones was not undersized and was strong when he came out, he did have the knock of no mean streak. Look Winston to me can play anywhere on the line(intelligence), plus he is strong and mean. They are not that much faster or slower than each other but one thing Ferguson has is long arms which are a definate plus at the LT position.
