Bob McNair sniffing around?

I was watching Fox Sports Net Pro Football Preview today and they were going over the Indy/Houston game. Jay Glazer went out of his way to say he knows Bob McNair has been sniffing around for a new GM and a new head coach. Jay said Casserly and Capers will be cleaned out after the season.

The rumor mill will get more intense the deeper we get into a one win season.

I'd love for the Texans to go 8-8 this season, obviously...even if it means we live with the dynamic duo of Capers and Casserly another year.

i dont understand your reasoning. 8-8 wont get us to the playoffs. 8-8 will kill our draft spot for that premire LT. 8-8 keeps capers and casserly around another year.

It's a myth....players know their resume and next payday (contract) is on NFL game film.

Only McNair knows for sure. I heard on KILT that he won't make a move unless he's absolutely sure the new guy(s) would be an improvement.

I don't understand YOUR reasoning. 8-8 would be a FANTASTIC season for the Texans -- it would be the next step up. And so what if 8-8 doesn't get you into the playoffs? This team was never a playoff team to begin with. And I don't see anything wrong with keeping Capers and Casserly staying around for a long, long time if the team keeps improving. I believe your thinking has become a bit muddled.

yes, i agree. winning is all there should be in sports. we are not in a position to win anything, save our pride back.

we have a chance to salvage next year before it starts.

i am torn between every game...i want us to win everytime, but a part of me is relieved when we lose. im slightly different than most fans; i live for the nfl draft. that is my favorite part of the season, undefeated to winless.

That's an excellent description of my sentiments when the Texans play.
Its really not a bad experience on game day - you get some excitement when they have a good play, but don't feel terrible when they ultimately
lose the game since you know, in a strange sort of way that its been a productive Sunday afternoon since they are that much closer to picking
very, very high in next springs Draft. But you don't have that bounce in your
step Monday morning like the day after a victory. I just have to keep reminding myself its for the long-term when we see the fruits of our efforts
from those very, very high Draft picks. And it actually works - this is just a
tempory thing we're going thru.

This team will never realize it's potential under the current staff, and I don't want to take the chance of an 8-8 season keeping them around at this point. And trust me, just about any change has got to be an improvement over 1-7 without a single lead through 6 games.

my reasoning is for the future. eventually draft picks pay off if you draft wisely...hence why casserly is not in my "future" reasoning plan...

I love it when the Texans win, but am i the only one who feels like we are prolonging our own agony?

Amen to that. Let's take this a Sunday at a time until the end of the season, then worry about the draft.

All that and more for me. I've always been a fan (oilers to present) and never before have I been satisfied with a loss, but last week I was thrilled when we went down because that meant we were closer to (a) new coach & GM, and (b) good draft position. It's an odd feeling, though, I grant you that.

For me the best thing would be we bench Carr, look at Ragone and see what he's got, try all the receivers (Armstrong!), and lose most of the remaining games while finding out interesting things about the players we've got now--getting good film on them. In that way the new coaches and GM will have a better idea what they've got to build with.

I DON'T MEAN WE SHOULD PLAY TO LOSE! In fact, I'm not even sure that can be done in a game like football with so many people involved (with the one big baseball exception). But I would like to see us continue to lose and lose big. I don't want to run the risk of getting Capers and Casserly for another couple of years..

I dunno much, but I wish they'd play Ragone this weekend in Indy. With the
latest shakeup of the OL and the hostile, loud home field advantage of the dome for those really quick Indy edge rushers, it's a perfect storm for Carr to
get his butt creamed but good. After ole man McNair said at the end of last year they'd protect Carr in '05, I wouldn't blame Carr for boycotting the game since the best Capers & Casserly can do is burn one lousy 5th round pick in the draft (and that guy is now IR for the year), and bring in carreer RT Riley to play LT. Just let Ragone start the game and let them beat on his butt, and let Carr get ready for next Sundays ESPN game. Wishful thinking on my part
though, since Capers is too busy trying to win anyway he can and I just hope Carr doesn't have to pay for it this weekend.

Football teams don't operate in a vacuum from season to season. Each season bleeds into the next, as evidenced by the lackluster finish we had last year and the way it continued into this season.

If the team won their last 7 games, there is no doubt that the winning attitude and momentum would carry itself through the off-season and into the 2006 season.

I will NEVER hope my team loses. Hoping something and thinking something are two different things.

No, hoping my team wins every game is always easy, because that's how I feel, regardless of the reality of the situation. Hope is above realistic expectations.

You folks need to differentiate between HOPE and THINK.

Do I hope the Texans win every game? YES, without a doubt, and always

Do I think the Texans will win the next seven games? NO, of course, not. I know we'll be lucky to win 2-3 more realistically.

It sounds like Jeff Fishers contract is up at the end of the season. I would love to see him come to Houston. Bring in Russ Grim as OC and Mike Singletary as DC and then top it all off with Jimmy Johnson as our GM.

Dom Capers showed three strong years and one bad year thus far. Football history is littered with failed NFL coaches who were not able to come even close to that effort. So "just about any change has got to be an improvement" is not true.

Not sure I can agree with that. Dom has had 2.5 modestly fair years with SOME respectable progress. However, at mid last year and all of this year he has had the team in the toilet and the worst thing is, he hasn't shown the ability nor willingness to adapt to what happens in a game nor can he seem to properly assess his players and adapt to their skills.
