Potential Texans Season Records/Firsts for 2012

Exascor

Thought this would be an interesting thread for people to follow as the season moves along. I'm sure others will find additional records/firsts to add to the list. Let's try to keep it to realistic, achievable records. Not things like Schaub throwing for over 4.7k yards. The season is still young but many of these are on pace to be reached/surpassed. I researched these but could have missed something so let me know if anything seems wrong and I'll fix it.

Nice to know the Texans have already accomplished something the Oilers never did, even if it is just a START to the season. :bravo:

Jets- Yes

Ravens- Maybe (probably)

Vikings- Maybe (but I think yes)

Has Balt.'s D fallen off THAT much, or is Minn. really looking THAT good? I figured the Ravens game would be our toughest game again--with the exception that I don't remember which games are at home or away...

I'm still more wary of the Ravens and Pats more than I am anyone else on our schedule. Hell, I'm much more concerned about the Ravens game than I am Green Bay.

Baltimore is giving up chunks of yardage. Had Greg Little not dropped what should have been a TD, the Browns-Ravens game may have turned out a lot different. Losing Suggs to an Achilles and Jarret Johnson to FA has put a big crimp in both the pass rush and stopping the run. And while Webb is an outstanding CB, his counterparts in Cary Williams and Jimmy Smith? Not so much. They give up way too much yardage. Reed is still Reed, but if you stay away from his side of the field you get Pollard. Who is great against the run and short passes, but is never going to stay with WR's downfield.

I guess I am used to the Ravens defense being #1, #2 or maybe #5. Not #23 (#13 rush, #29 pass).

The Vikes? Can't put my finger on it, other than just appear to be a tough team to play this year.

Texans host Ravens this year at Reliant.

They've got a pretty good coach, they'll have a lot of things fixed by the time we play them.

Baltimore is going to be a tough game.

I expect nothing but a war with the Ravens even with that drop-off on the D because the O is trying to pick up the slack.

I'm expecting tough, tough games from the Packers, Patriots, Bears, and Vikings. Before the season, I expecting a tough game from the Lions but now I'm not so sure.

The surprise to me is the Vikings. I just can't figure out if they're for real or if they're one of those teams that's borderline and gotten lucky. Lose to the Colts and beat the Niners? Really?

Updated above. We are close on some. 2 road wins, 3 AFC wins, 2 consecutive wins from matching those records.

Baltimore is going to be a tough game.

Yes, they will! That's why we're gonna need our 12th man to stand up and be heard! Same for the Packers game. Our fans are great, but, I think we're gonna need to step it up a notch or two! If we want our D to "step it up" because of the loss of Cush, then we need to do the same! Make their visit to Reliant a very miserable one! Send them home respecting the FANS of the Houston Texans!!

Here's to you KJ, and here's to getting a lot more than 6 ints this season! :bravo:

Yuppers. Updated it in a few posts above. I never felt Mario gave enough effort. Last big thing Mario has in the books is career sacks.

I think most points scored in a season is a done deal.

We only need to average slightly more than 12 per game to get there.

I will not be happy if we don't have a play-off bye.

Agreed on both. The bye thing would be terrible. I'd rather not even think about it. heh

I found anotherrecord that could be reached:
Most Sacks by a Rookie: 6, Brooks Reed 2011
Whitney Mercilus has 5 sacks with 4 games left.

What is the most sacks the Texans have had in a single game?
I knew I forgot about one. This reminded me. Thanks cak. =)

Most turnovers in a game. The previous record was 5. That happened 5 times.
We had 6 vs Titans, 12/2/12

3 interceptions & 3 fumble recoveries.

What is the most sacks the Texans have had in a single game?

From the Texans website:

Established a season high with 6.0 sacks in the game. Houston’s defense registered 4.0 sacks vs. Tennessee (9/30), in Week 7 vs. Baltimore (10/21) and in Week 9 vs. Buffalo (11/4). The 6.0 sacks were tied for the second-most in team history and were the most since Houston tied a franchise record with 7.0 at Jacksonville on 11/27/11.

Agreed on both. The bye thing would be terrible. I'd rather not even think about it. heh

I found anotherrecord that could be reached:

I like Mercilus's chance now that he plays a lot of snaps.

What was the fewest INTs thrown by a QB?

& the fewest sacks given up by the Texans?

According to 610am, JJ Watt is getting credit for another sack in the Titans game. That's 16.5 for the season. He's on pace for 22.

Most Sacks by a Rookie: 6, Whitney Mercilus 2012 & Brooks Reed 2011

-The Texans are 1 home win from matching that record.
-The team is 1 division win from breaking that record.
