Steve Sabol passes

Carr Bombed

Hall of Fame
Age 69, he passed due to brain cancer. I didn't even know he was sick. RIP Steve, you were one of my favorite TV personalities. A true Icon in the business.

Wow, did not even know he was sick. Man, football just lost a great icon, man, and innovator. Thanks for everything you did the sport Steve. RIP.

Damn, this sucks. His films were part of the reason I fell in love with the NFL. Truly a legend.

RIP S. Sabol. You and your father influenced me and my family greatly as every week we huddled to watch highlights and the films you put together. Truly saddened that your life ended way too early.

I've watched NFL films almost as long as I've watched TV . Him and his Dad were the Nat Geo or Jacques Cousteau of the NFL .

He will surely be missed .

My favorite NFL Film was this ... how I remember it anyway .

In the off season Morton found Jesus , in the endzone he found Moses .

I'll always remember watching NFL Films and Dr. Who late at night growing up.

RIP Steve Sabol, like most have mentioned he and his father helped mold me into a football fan. He will be missed. I hope NFL Films is in good hands.

As for him being sick, I thought as much last year when he presented his father at the HOF induction. He had lost weight and he had lost his hair. I never checked it out nor saw it mentioned.

The world of football is now missing one of it's brightest stars.

When I first saw this story break I thought it was his father Ed. I just saw a documentary about him and his father. Ed Sabol is 96 years old so initially this was no surprise until I realized it was Steve. Like some others here I didn't know he was sick.

QFT. He and his father revolutionized the way we watch football and paved the way for a blueprint that will be followed for many years.

They took a mere sport and presented as an epic tale, complete with the triumphant music, voice of god, and high quality video, especially those slow motion shots of spectacular plays. Not to mention giving fans insight to the workings of a football team by recording coach talk and filiming the sidelines as much as they filmed the field of play.

The Sabols were pioneers in the NFL, and they should get lots of credit for helping the NFL be what it is today.

RIP Steve Sabol. You left us way before we were ready to say bye to you. :(

Me either. That was sure kept quiet.
I didn't realize he was closing in on 70 either.

R.I.P. Steve. You did as much for the popularity of The Game as Rozelle or Monday Night Football. I hope they put you in the Hall along side your dad.
